Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

Cliché Super Soldier/Spy Thriller Novel
- By David on 11-06-19
By: Sean Parnell
Publisher's Summary
From the coauthor of the number-one New York Times best-selling American Sniper, this "inspired by true events" thriller follows one of America’s most lethal snipers as he leads the rescue of a downed female Special Ops pilot.
The President of the United States can’t decide how to respond to a classified video showing the Taliban’s brutal treatment of their captive - a female helicopter pilot of the Army’s elite Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Afraid that a botched rescue will further destabilize foreign policy and end his presidency, the Commander-in-Chief falters. But when the Special Ops community learns that one of their own is being tortured and will almost certainly be killed, no executive order will stop them from attempting a rescue mission.
In direct defiance of the President’s orders, Navy SEAL sniper Gil Shannon launches an audacious mission with the support of elite soldiers and an enigmatic government figure, to infiltrate the tribal faction holding the captured pilot. A pulse-pounding battle ensues, pitching the entire force of the Taliban against the fearless and heroic American sniper. Packed with blistering action and real-life combat scenes, Sniper Elite: One Way Trip will pin you to the edge of your seat until the very last sentence.

I NEED A CIGARETTE!
Where does Sniper Elite: One Way Trip rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Pretty damn high. I've only listened to a little over a hundred audio books but I would definitely put "Sniper Elite" in the top 10. What a ride! This is one of the best action thrillers I've listened to. I think it's one, maybe two cuts above the "Gray Man" series by Mark Greany if that matters to you guys at all.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Gil Shannon would be my favorite character. Not only is he a military bad ass who will disobey orders to save one of his own, he's also a down-to-earth country boy who's kinda shy. I guess he's got the duel personality thing going on.
What does Brian Hutchison bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Well, he brings excitement to the story that I probably wouldn't get if i read it myself. I tell you what, he did a really good job with the voices of the different characters of the story(especially Gil). I have no complaints with his narration.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, this book had non-stop action with a great story arc but, you know, I have to work and do other stuff too. I wanted to listen to it in one sitting,sh*t ya.
Any additional comments?
not really.

One of the best book I have encountered this year.
This book kept me engaged from start to finish. Some may be turned off by the level of violence depicted, but none of it was inappropriate given the book largely follows the adventure of a navy seal sniper.
The book is quite a trip, I must disagree with a few of the other reviewers when they say the author is nearly as good a Clancy. In my opinion he is far better.
If the publisher is monitoring these reviews, please note I am keen for more audio books from these authors. I will be checking back periodically to see if they have any new books.
The narrator Brian Hutchison, is quite good. He has a pleasant voice and if he worked a little more on his pacing and character voices he could be one of the very best. I would be happy to hear him again.

Good listen for action
This isn't at the par of Clancy or Thor, but it's entertaining. It is more of an "in the field" story with incredible detail and somewhat realistic combat.
If you are bothered by real language, aka- cursing, it's not for you. But it adds to the somewhat real feel of it.

One Of The Best In This Genre!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This audiobook was solid across the board. The story seemed real and engaging. The characters were one you could sympathize with. There is a lot of quick but not too fast-paced action. The narration was perfect as well. I can't wait for the next novel from Scott McEwen. I know readers of this genre of books are going to be seeing a lot more of him in the future! You'll not regret this purchase!
What about Brian Hutchison’s performance did you like?
Voice was strong but not overpowering. Played the various characters well.
If you could rename Sniper Elite: One Way Trip, what would you call it?
Special Forces: Rescue in the Hindu Kush
Any additional comments?
I tend to start listening to these at night before falling asleep as I don't have time during the day. My only warning is that if you do this you'll have a couple of sleepless nights because you don't want to put it down. The reward though is the satisfaction of hearing a great story!

Not just another "Spec Ops Thriller"
I listen to most fiction and non-fiction books about military operations & memoirs of operators. It seems like this genre has had a flood of new books coming into it, and a lot of them sub-par, almost like wanting to push out as many books as they can, into a market that is growing in popularity, just to make some money. This book is well thought out, and very accurate as far as the range of personalities in a single team. I enjoyed it, and will listen to other books by Scott McEwen. The narrator does a great job, and is easy to listen to.

A FIVE STAR READ
What other book might you compare Sniper Elite: One Way Trip to and why?
I love the Brad Thor books. There is quite a bit of detail but the story never drags. Sniper Elite is the same way.
What does Brian Hutchison bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is an excellent narrator. He does lots of voices and accents which makes it easier to keep all the characters straight
If you could take any character from Sniper Elite: One Way Trip out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Just one?? Need a couple of more for my dinner table. I also liked Farouk for his ability to read people, his courage and loyalty.
Any additional comments?
Let me first thank all our brave men and women who defend our freedom and liberty. This book goes into great detail and yet unlike some overly detailed slow moving books Sniper Elite does not disappoint. It is riveting and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I wanted to finish it all in one sitting. I loved Gil, Montana and Marie who raises horses. The behind the scenes strategy/intrigue was fascinating. I found myself completely enthralled and scared at the same time. These guys have nerves of steel! I have read almost all of the Navy Seal books to get a glimpse of the limits to which the best of the best push themselves. Have avoided reading the books where almost all the Navy Seals/good guys die. It’s hard to read about them, feel like you know them and their family and then they are gone. Thought I was safe reading American Sniper but sadly he is gone too. They are not just the good among us but the best America has to offer. It is non-stopped action of Scot Harvath. I have been in awe of all the brave men and women who selflessly sacrifice life and limb. They defend our liberty and freedom not for fame, fortune or recognition but for a cause greater than themselves. I found myself laughing at times and crying like when Track Star and Big Ten finally get together. I found Farouk courageous, loved uncle and bit my nails and then cried as Gilligan took the last flight out to wait and leave no man behind. Loved every minute and was so swept up in the emotion that I had to remind myself at the end that it is fiction. The great news is that no one died! I’m ready for the next book with Gil and Marie. A great read from my newest and favorite author. Catch a rising star, you won’t be disappointed!

Action A Plenty
McEwen and Kolonair are new author for me and they have combined to create a new set of heroes who are not afraid to "go dark" on unauthorised missions when those in power hesitate. A great bunch of characters, lots of contacts in other "agencies" and some really cool equipment at their call make this group of Special Forces Operators fun to read and root for on missions that could be one way trips. Characters are believable and likable, you want them to be safe but you also know that someone might not be coming back from the mission.
This is a great debut for these two and the next edition in the series is highly anticipated; I can't wait to see where Gil Shannon takes care of business next.
Brian Hutchison was good with the delivery of the story

Hard to categorize in the genre.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is an odd book, although a familiar genre. It deals with many of the same subjects as novels by Coes, and Flynn, and others but not from the POV of an necessarily heroic character. Yes, it's about a Navy Seal, but not a Ramboesque muscles bulging superman. It's the first I've read that described them as they really are, efficient, ruthless, focused to an inhuman degree, and rather taciturn about what it is they do. Not a Charlie Sheen fool. The concept of 'the hero' is almost a joke to them, although they do things civilians would label heroic almost as a matter of course, daily. The story has a lot of common elements seen in other 'sniper tales', but related as it might happen. You get a real sense of the sense of dread they have about some things they are asked to do, and yet do anyway. It reveals to me at least, some insight to the behavior, personal discipline and outlook of Seals I've known in civilian life over the years. Remarkable men, but men nonetheless.Spectacular and interesting book, read extremely well.

Wow. Just WOW.
What did you love best about Sniper Elite: One Way Trip?
What an amazing, "can't put it down," special ops thrill ride! After devouring this book in less than two days, I found myself downloading its sequel, Target America, faster than Gil Shannon can strip a sniper rifle. If you're looking for a high-octane, well-written action-adventure novel, you've found one. In honoring some of this nation's most outstanding heroes, Scott McEwen has delivered one of the best thrillers of the year!!! Vince Flynn/Mitch Rapp fans: It's time to get to know Gil Shannon!

An absolute must could not put it down!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
An absolute for all especially if you like military type thrillers but not limited too.An all around excellent read for all. Would not be shocked to see it turned into a movie. Had it all highs that's had me on the edge of my seat to lows that could not help but bring tears to ones eyes and and all around just sucked you in to a truely awsome story of true heroics not easily matched. If not my top novel definitely in the top five and by far the best book have listened to in a long time and that is alot coming from an avid reader of hundreds if not thousands of books and audios could not put it down !!!!!!!!

What about Brian Hutchison’s performance did you like?
Didn't over-do the accents and still left them realistic - created a very exciting story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I can't really do this as I commute but I couldn't wait to get back into the car!

A good adventure story.
For all that this book tries to introduce the love angle and men very occasionally finding their feminine side, it remains a book aimed at a male readership and a red meat male readership at that. There's very little here for women.
Having said that, it's a good yarn well told and well performed. It's a nice antidote to the droning performances of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books.

Stunner
What a great story teller this guy is, my first book from this author and i can easily say he puts himself in my list of favorite writers. No way once you start it, you can put it down before finish. freaking marvelous. Salute!
The carefully inserted dark humor at times gives you a chance to breath normal back again.
This is going to cost me lot of money now finishing his rest of works. Damn!
Narrator is brilliant too, his efforts in delivering dialogues without any emotions at times thrown me off balance couple of times, which was to be expected in a military settings.

Really gripping
Thoroughly enjoyed this, if it was a book I would say it's a page Turner, don't know how that translates into audio.

Brilliant!
Utterly gripping story. Full of believably written characters. I often listen to books while doing mundane tasks, however with is one, and especially towards the end, I just had to sit down and listen; didn't want to risk missing a beat! Excellent performance by the narrator, every voice distinct and recognisable. This is my first "Sniper" book and I now look forward reading them all.

Great actioner!
Great story, politically relevant.
Surprisingly, in a good way, not the endless back slapping elite brotherhood stuff.
Use of acronyms a little off putting.
Overall an exciting listen, will buy more of this author in this genre

Jack Reacher move over Gill Shannon isin the house
The best action book so far, fast, gritty, hang on to your seat of your pants, you are going to be told how they do it in special forces. Busted hips, punchered lungs, blood and gore by the buckets fills. In for the job and out with your life. loved it all.
A fine display of locality and comradeship mixed up with political red tape.
Well done Scott & Thomas for a great story, I really felt the ride of a life time. Brian you narrated it brilliantly, bringing the story to life realistically. 5 big stars cheers

Action packed and fast paced.
Where does Sniper Elite: One Way Trip rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Pretty high. Well worth the spend of a credit if you like this genre of fast paced action.
Any additional comments?
A book with a lot of detail (regarding, weapons, kit, etc.) but it manages to deliver this without interrupting the speed of the story.
This probably goes without saying, as it is clear that the story is military but ... parts of the book graphically describe violence and the language is best described as 'realistic'!!
