Publisher's Summary

An absolutely gripping mystery thriller

I set the small black box on the kitchen table. There are dozens of tapes. My finger hovers a beat and I push play. I hear Doctor Albright’s soft, kind voice encourage me to begin. “Tell me what you did that day.”

Detective Megan Carpenter is no stranger to evil. Escaping the horrors of her old life, she’s vowed never to let anyone hurt her or those she loves ever again. Joining the small police force in Jefferson County’s Port Townsend, Megan is determined to get every victim of a crime the justice they deserve.

So when Ruth Turner walks into the Sheriff’s office claiming her sister Ida Watson has been missing for over a month, Megan’s instincts tell her that she needs to do more than just file a report.

Arriving at a secluded farmhouse in the hills above Snow Creek, she finds Ida’s teenage children alone and frightened.

Then a few days later, close to the Watsons’ home, the blackened body of a woman is discovered in an abandoned pickup truck.

Megan must unravel the disturbing secrets of the isolated Snow Creek community if she is to catch the killer.

But Megan has dark secrets of her own too....

Hidden in the back of her closet is a box of tapes containing every single recording of her therapy sessions with Doctor Albright over 13 years ago. As Megan begins to play the tapes, she’s taken straight back to her terrifying childhood, back to the time she was a kid called Rylee, fighting to survive.

Can Megan finally confront the past she’s spent years trying to block out and will listening to her own painful story help her solve the complex case she is now entangled in?

From the number-one New York Times and Amazon Charts best-selling author comes an absolutely heart-stopping crime series introducing Detective Megan Carpenter.

Snow Creek

The narrator, sadly, didn’t give me any enthusiasm for the story. I am a Gregg Olsen fan and I might have enjoyed this story. I look forward to the second book if there is a different narrator

Narrator’s Voice

I liked the book but it was difficult getting used to the narrator’s voice. Try listening to a sample before you buy!

Narrator

The voice of the narrator was horrible to listen to. The story itself was ok but just couldn’t get past the narrator.

Hmm

I liked the story well enough but I didn’t really care for the narration. But I’ve gotta continue the story.

Horrible narration

I don’t know if this book is good or not, the narrator is so irritating that I stopped listening before I finished

Dark and twisty. Just how I like them

I live in Port Townsend and have been to Snow Creek, which made this book just that much better. The twist and turns keep you guessing. I love that Gregg Olsen's books are always surprising me with unexpected twist and turns down to the very end. The end has me on the edge of my seat, patiently waiting for the next one!

Snow Creek

Great story with unexpected twists along the way. But narrator’s performance drove me nuts. I nearly abandoned the book but instead increased the narration speed to 1.3, which helped enough that I continued the book to the end. If it’s the same narrator in the sequel, I probably won’t purchase it. 🙁

Narrator

This narrator made it very difficult to listen to this story. She seemed to smug and her aristocratic voice did not go with the subject matter at all. I would have stopped listen to Thai book if it were not a fact that Gregg Olsen is one of my favorite authors. Please pick a different narrator for your next books!

Pretty Enjoyable

Definitely going to listen to the second book. It took a chapter or two to really get into it but glad I stuck with it.

Boring

I was very disappointed in this book. Not wee written and very far fetched. Doesn’t reach a conclusion and you need to get the next book to find out what happens. I won’t bother

Brilliant!

The first book that made me Gasp Out Loud (in ASDA's ffs!) One lady thought I had found a special offer in the ready meal section. Great book, really surprising twists and turns, well done all, especially the Author and Narrator!!! Would highly recommend.

Impressive 1st book.

The story is split between the murders and the back story of the chief protagonist. It keeps you hooked from the start and leaves you wanting more as the characters develop.

Disappointed and kinda hated it

I really hated listening to this book. When I tried the sample I thought the narration would be nice & soothing but the style quickly grated on me. The narration & the main character just sounded so smug while most other characters sounded vapid or stupid. I found the story itself gross and eye roll inducing.. unfortunately I can’t go into too much detail about what I disliked about the writing without giving hints to plot for those that do still want to listen. The main character’s back story as it was revealed was just too much on top of the rest of the mystery, it was too contrived, and I was not drawn in by the cliffhanger at the end. I will not be continuing with the series. I was so looking forward to listening to some of Gregg Olsen’s non-fiction work, I don’t know why I chose to listen to this first, it’s soured me on listening to anything else he’s written. I just kept wanting to give it a chance to surprise me until I’d listened to too much to feel like I could return it and hate-listened until it was done.
