Publisher's Summary

"Both children and adults with roar with laughter." (School Library Journal)

Newbery Medal-winning author Beverly Cleary charms listeners with yet another lovable character - Socks, a jealous cat who must learn to share his owners with their new baby. This chapter book is an excellent choice to share during homeschooling, in particular for children ages 5 to 7. It's a fun way to keep your child engaged and as a supplement for activity books for children.

Socks is one happy cat. He lives the good life with his affectionate owners, Mr. and Mrs. Bricker. Ever since the day they saved him from a life spent in a mailbox drop slot, Socks has been the center of their world. And he always has everything he needs - tasty kitty treats and all the lap room he could want!

But when a new baby arrives, suddenly the Brickers have less and less time for Socks. Little Charles William is the one getting all the attention. Socks feels left out - and to show it, he starts getting into all sorts of trouble! What will it take to make Socks realize just how much the Brickers care about him?

Critic Reviews

"This is a hilarious book by Beverly Cleary...and Neil Patrick Harris does a slam-bang job of presenting it....Both children and adults will roar with laughter." (School Library Journal)
"Younger listeners (who may themselves feel misunderstood by the big people in their lives, especially after the arrival of a new sibling) will especially appreciate this perspective. Parents listening along will enjoy Cleary's sharp and humorous insights into family life." (AudioFile)

There was no Development of character there was no plot there was nothing. If I could rate this 0 stars I would. This is possibly one of the worst books I have ever listened to...

My Daughter Loves This

What made the experience of listening to Socks the most enjoyable?

I got this book for my daughter mainly because she already had the Henry Huggins collection and fell in love with how Neil Patrick Harris reads it. He does a great job on this book too. My daughter is a big audio reader and she gives this a two thumbs up. Good story and great reader!

Very GOOD

I just love that the story is about when you get an younger brother, or sis, you feel left out and alone. Yet, you are always in the middle. You. You are in the fun.

Loved it! Very funny. Great narrative.

I also appreciated the use of expressive language. It wasn't too childish in it's descriptions. I felt like my children were hearing an enjoyable story, while learninv new words too.
