I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Narrator is good, ppl r stupid
This book is dope. Don't let stupid reviews trashing the narrator stop you from getting this one.
1. The Sound Effects could not make up more than 1% of the 8+ hours, and besides the dude did an ok job with them regardless.
2. The other 99% was well performed. If this is the narrator's 1st time, then he did an awesome job. Some ppl just like to talk s**t.
As for the story, it is well written and quite enjoyable. I don't think it's the best book ever, but it is a solid production. I will for sure tune in for the next installment.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in progression fantasy. It's a good one.

Fun book
I did really enjoy it and an looking forward to part 2. That said, there are some issues that need to be addressed, namely any time there's a sound effect or a creature noise or something like that... just describe it, don't sound it out. I'd MUCH rather hear the narrator just say "the monster let out a high pitched shriek" than hear the narrator go "Chreeeassiiikkk!!!" or hear him do the impression of a girl screaming or something. And the notification bing... just put in a sound effect of a ding lol don't have him actually yell out BING every time
Also, sometimes it's just overboard on the notifications. I don't need to hear the stats or skills listed out like three times in a row at some places
Anyway like I said I don't think the story was bad nor do I think the guy reading it is bad, but some things might need to be adjusted for audiobook direction is all.

I see Solo Leveling, I click.
I regret nothing and burned through this and will probably reread solo webtoon/manhwa from chapter one... Again.
But real talk, the performance was a bit lackluster in the sound effects department but I'm willing to look past it for the sheer fact this gives me ability to actually get through the LN. My time is often lacking for the things I enjoy in leisure as of late but thankfully I have lots of "don't think, just do' time so I can allocate my listening attention to audiobooks. If you don't have time, this is a great path; if you do have time, don't listen, go read on your own. You'll get through it faster and have your own sense of sound effects, pronunciation, and you won't waste your resources on this.

Standard tale with Korean twist
If you like this genre, you have probably read more than a few books about someone gaining power through a game like interface. There is nothing incredibly innovative here. That being said, the story is good and the characters are relatable. Another fun thing about it is that we get very few stories out of Korea in the American market and it’s nice to see a bit more of that culture.

Great adaptation of a graphic novel
I have been a fan of the Solo Leveling graphic novel from years. The story is very detailed and engaging. The writer and narrator have done a fantastic job of bringing the world of Solo Leveling to audio book format. To be a little nitpicky, the Narrator is a little weak in the start of the story, but once he catches his rhythm, he is fantastic!
This is a great twist on the dungeon/gaming stories. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Can’t wait for the next book.

sound effects not needed
Enjoyed the story and will definitely buy the next one. Only thing I didn't enjoy was the narrator making sound effects. Maybe he can describe the sounds instead. E.g. the door creeked ominously instead of making the sound.

Great storyline.
Really enjoyed the book, the narrator was easy to get on with. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I have seen a lot of people complain about sound effects where the narrator does the sound effects. These are what is literary written in the book, as a light novel reader I expected to hear these in the audiobook and I wasn't disappointed by it. I feel like people just haven't actually read any Light Novels than Yes Press translate, as a they would have notice this is something from a lot of Japanese, Chinese or even Korean such as this novel is.
I do kind of wish that Yen Audio was releasing these at the same time as the Light Novels as I travel a lot these are great to fill the car journeys when I would normally not be able to read the novel.
I especially enjoyed the Voice narration of Ki Hong Lee and I look forward to his next audio production.

Good story but two things reduced the score.
The readers "sound effects" was not good at all.
If he had skipped them it might have been a 4 on performance.
It ended very abruptly.

Alright
Fairly enjoyable with some caveats. This book is fine as an in betweener while you're looking for a good series or waiting for a book to come out. Not much plot other than mc works to get stronger while hitting the occasional "bump" which isn't much of a bump. Mc gets op fast and the book ends fairly abruptly. I'll probably get the next book.
The narrator is alright though he probably, definitely, should have skipped the sound effects which range from innocuous to unintentionally hilarious.

Ambivalent
I wish to listen to the story but -- like everyone else said -- the damn sounds. I appreciate that the narrator either tried to follow the book or tried to add something new, but it truly is irritating when a shoosh and ahhhh screaming sound in your ears every now and then. A description or explanation of sounds would be better in this book and unfortunately, the narrator takes away a lot of good from this book.

I've seen good reviews and decided to try it.
Really well written and beat my expectation.
I thought the performance was good. The sound effects could be off putting to some but I didn't mind them.
My only bad point to the story and narration was the names of characters and the performances each were given. Some characters names sounded similar and each character performance was similar also which fractured my immersion by trying to understand what was going on.
This is partly me being ignorant and not being familiar with Korean names, and partly the lack of different voices given to the characters unlike Yen Audio's other audio books.
Overall, it's a great power trip fantasy and I am intrigued by the story. I will be moving on the next book.

Pacing done right
One thing that often puts me off this genre is the pacing of the plot. Often stories begin with interesting concepts around leveling or character progression, but this one in particular makes the main character's progression central to the plot and maintains the interest of the concept. Even while world-building and introducing broader 'meta' narratives, it does not come at the expense of what made this book interesting from the start.

Great story, terrible sound effects!
really enjoyed the story, tempted to get the other volumes in print as the sounds effects are pretty bad and add nothing to the story.

solid translation/reading would recommend
Narrator used multiple voices which accurately reflected characters and the translation seemed pretty accurate. My only negative is the narrator made sound effects that were pretty weird. Still an overall enjoyable listen.

Sound effects hurt the book.
Verbally recreating sound effects has been difficult to listen through. be better without them. Would gladly pay a little extra to not sit through them.

Sound Effects
I almost couldn't finish this because of the sound effects from the narrator. The storyline is great, though.

Fantastic story!
Wonderful story, really well written for an enjoyable listen/read! But my gosh the sounds the reader does for monsters or the environment are AWFUL like WOE! Dont let that scare you away though! It seriously was fantastic! An easy go lucky 8 hour book!!

Overall great story
The only gripe I have with the auto is the sound effects of he makes for monsters screeching. Maybe different/actual sound effects for monsters would have been better.

Please!!! Don’t do sound effects!!!
Good story, only two annoying thing… the narrators sounds effects are what one would do reading a children’s book to their 5 year old kid to make a story sound amazing and such. Was cringe. The next is prob a person thing where some of the names were so similar sounding that I got lost between the characters. Oddly enough when I read this book the names were different enough to not cause this problem. Overall still looking forward to the next one.
