Publisher's Summary

If she could make it through her first semester without killing anyone...that'd be great.

San Francisco Bay Coven has been torn apart and no one feels this more than Mika Marshall. Kenzie Kavanagh exposed her father and brother's betrayal.

So Mika is starting at the University of Morgana a semester late and praying to the Fates that she'll be able to catch up and graduate with her class. But as a witch with an undeclared specialty she's trying not to bring too much attention to herself.

Because Mika has a secret and if she doesn't learn to control her powers, people will die.

This is a slow burn reverse harem academy series. All paranormal books by Emma Dean exist in the same world - the Council of Paranormals.

Loved it!

I've already read this book and the subsequent releases in the past, but I love the story of Mika, her guys and her friends so much that I'm thrilled to be able to listen to it on audio. Melissa Schwairy KILLED IT! Her narration really brought Mika to life as she begins her journey at Morgana University. I can not wait until the next one comes out!

AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only did this book pull me out of the perpetual state of boredom that I was suffering in, but it also made me really happy. The plot was to die for, and something new. Unlike many of its brethren, that being paranormal reverse harem academy books, Something Wicked had an original plot that had not been done to death. The heroine, Mika, was not the regular Mary Sue but a 'book' person with a backstory that was unlike anything I've read recently. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series is all out because I 100% plan to continue this series.

Melissa Schwairy is an excellent narrator and was a magnificent choice for this book. I loved her ability to differentiate between characters and her voice in general.

I completely recommend that you buy this book because it's just plain awesome.

Amazing start to a series

I was presently surprised by this book I had thought it would be good but I wasn’t expecting to get so sucked in. I can’t wait to see how the story proceeds and I feel like so many things have been set up to happen I just have a feeling this will be one of those series that gets me so invested in the characters and their story line. I’m excited to start the next book.

It’s so good!

I recently got into listening to books on Audible and this book doesn’t disappoint. I was hoping the voices of the guys would be read by a man to hear the different cadences, tones and accents but I’m ok with it just being from the one perspective. I’ve read the ebook versions of this series so I knew what to expect but I enjoyed it all the same.

The best part was characters from other books making a cameo

I was sadly disappointed with this book. I have read some of the authors other books and REALLY enjoyed them. I’m not a huge fan of University books but thought I’d give this one a go bc of the author. Sadly I just didn’t like Mika that much. She was just the rude, abrasive storm cloud that stomped all over campus. Not exaggerating, the author writes several times about her stomping. To me that’s the adult version of throwing a temper tantrum and it was MULTIPLE times. I get that her backstory is traumatic and life altering. I’m not debating that or saying she’s acting wrong. Who am I to say how you should react after such a background. However I need to enjoy reading (or in this case listening) about a character and I just didn’t enjoy Mika. She’s consistently rude and talks down to people. She says it’s cause they don’t know or understand, or she doesn’t want to hurt them but that just doesn’t fly for me. Talking down or being aggressively rude to someone, people who are being nothing but nice to her kind you, is just selfish. I think that’s what this character boils down to a little. Yes what she went through is just wow and her trust in people has been demolished bc of it but she acts like what she went through is worse then what anyone else could ever go through. 2 of these incredibly kind and friendly people tell her tragic backstories. I mean both of them worthy or a little PTSD and yet it’s almost like she brushes them off. Tells them she’s sorry they went through that but then won’t confide in them or explain why she’s being such a jerk. Not to mention she has this way at looking at her magic that bothers me. She goes on about how powerful she is, so powerful she’s afraid she’ll hurt people with it. Yet in the next sentence it’s all bravado saying she doesn’t let her magic control her. Just a rather confusing character. Add to that I didn’t really connect with any or her side characters or eventual boyfriends and it left me kinda done with the series.
The best part of the book was seeing Hunter and his team of foxes back in the picture. Is it sad I might continue on the series just to see them and the devil godfather?

Loved it!!

This was an amazing narrative version of an amazing book. This is the beginning of Mika’s story. The beginning of an amazing journey that has its ups and downs. The narrator really brings her to life.

Solid Start

I'm looking forward to the rest of this series!! This book was a lot of setting the ground work for future storyline. No epic big bad showdown but we got the start of a mystery we will no doubt be unraveling in book 2. I love when RH books introduce relationships slowly. It's No fun when everyone has sex in the first hour. In this one we have notions of who her men will eventually be but no sexy time. A few kisses and some budding romantic moments are all we have so far!!!

Wow

What a start to a series, this started out strong and has just kept going. I really have enjoyed meeting all the characters and the narrator has helped with the different voices to distinguish them all. This is a great book with plenty of chemistry but also a nice steady slow burn. With that cliff ending I can’t wait to dive into the next one

A wicked great listen

Book 1 in the series. The author Emma knows how to get the readers attention. She takes a fantastic outlook to her paranormal stories and gives them twists and turns. Her characters are strong , daring , and some lighthearted. Both hero and heroine learn to rely on each other to resolve a dark issue.
Her heroine Mika a witch needs to resolve something that is haunting her from her past and is stopping her from using her full powers .
The story ends on a cliffhanger and boy what an ending, it’s a mystery that is dark that Mika sees

Melissa Schwairy Performance was great . Her voice is smooth, strong and steady. Her tone for all the characters was spot on .

The First of Many exciting Instalments!

This was the first book by Emma Dean I had listened to, and I definately want more! it was an interesting story that sucked me in from the beginning and kept me hanging on for more, full of intrigue and suspense and exciting characters. Mika makes a great heroine, determined to keep her distance from everyone to 'protect her secret', but the friends she unintentially makes are irresistable along with the amazing array of romantic interests, 'why choose' indeed! This was a great first instalment, I'm hooked and can't wait to start the next book.

Paranormal Academy RH

Interesting start of series, great character building. Witches, Shifters, Hunters, and demons. Short, but lays the foundation to what could be a great academy series.

Great start to the series!

This is the first book in what is shaping up to be another fantastic RH/WC series in the Council of Paranormal Universe.

I really enjoyed the characters, the story, the narration.

This is a Why Choose series meaning there are multiple potential partners and the MC doesnt have to choose just 1! This is also slow-burn meaning things are pretty tame in this book, especially compared to the authors other works. This is also a series, so this book has a serious cliffy... I might have vertigo still...

While you can start here and understand the series, as there is enough basic recap, some of the history and backstory is the main story in the series that starts with What the Fox (fantastic series though a much faster burn). This means if you haven't read that series this one contains spoilers for that one.

TW/spoiler below

There is talk of the MC being sexually assaulted in the past, just as another character in the last series was. It is a thing that happened and affects her but she does not relive the actual assualt in detail in this book. She is mentally hurt and seems to be healing from it during the book. I believe the author approaches it very well.

Soooooo good!

I loved this shory. The characters are great and they have a lot of emotional growing to do, which I loved. they aren't perfect characters, they have flaws and I am excited to see them grow and become stronger. Also the narrator was great! I cannot wait until the next books come out on audio!

Meh..

This is like a spin off from the series 'Chaos of Foxes', I really did enjoy Chaos of Foxes, but was not that thrilled with this story. As is the first story in a series, not much was given away, but I wish they had been more in this story to get really invested. Was not a fan of the way this story was written. The author certainly seemed to like to use the characters names all the time. This got very annoying & uncalled for. Even in scenes where its just one character you don't need to keep using that characters name, your audience is very aware of who you're talking about. This one just wasn't for me.

The narrator is ok, a bit slow but turned up the speed & was much better.
