Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

An incredible journey
This was book 3 in the Sentenced to War series and effectively closes up the first story arc. Book 4 will continue to follow Rev, but will evolve the universe and story into a new direction, according to the authors, which I think is great news because it means there's very little filler here. Song of Redemption does what I wanted. It gives a fitting end to the war and shows the growth our characters have experienced. I am excited and thrilled to see where book 4 takes us and beyond, because I don't know what to expect.

Best Book in the series
This was my favorite book in the series, it has the best scenes and you can see how the author has incorporated all of the feedback.
PROS:
*The plot was less predictable
*The main character is more relatable
* Good Dialogues
* Decent ending to this triology
CONS:
*The characters are still one-dimensional and with limited depth
* This series is a perfect argument in favor of plot structure
* Too much inner thoughts and general data that slows down the story
* Little conflict to move the story forward (yes I know the irony in a military sci-fi book) and this is more about the series as a whole, this book is an exception.
The narration is flawless

Best of the Series so far – Outstanding!!
This is the 3rd book in the series that follows Reverend ‘Rev’ Pelletier and his group of Raider Marines. This is a multi-faceted, there are multiple storylines with Rev and his team having to face one challenge after another.
Rev has had to face several challenges having lost his arm in book 2, and having gone through the IBHU program, so that he now has an upgraded arm that has a weapon that is capable of defeating the Centaurs.
But with this arm has come a lot of responsibility as those around him seem to be deferring to him, given not only his experience, but this new found power, even though Rev is still only a Sgt.
At the start of this book, the Centaurs are still raging through the galaxy, and causing significant issues for Humanity, but the Humans have developed a weapon that they think will turn the tide of the war.
The start of the book sees several operations to deploy this new weapon, before the teams are pulled to a new mission that sees them being sent to seek out a possible Centaur secret location.
It is here that events occur that have a significant impact on Rev’s life and career.
Still coming to terms with this, and after having to deal with some other challenges, Rev must then deal with the ultimate crisis for humanity, the Centaur attack ‘The Mother’, the birthplace of Humanity, ‘Earth’ itself.
The previous books, whilst having several major events, are nothing compared to the extraordinary action that takes place in this story. Rev and his team (and don’t to attached to members of the team), are thrown from one brutal event to the next, barely having time to assess threats and respond accordingly. This is an action packed, riveting military saga of multiple missions as Rev and his team take on the Centaurs across several different worlds and targets.
The character work continues to be of outstanding quality in this series, something that adds an additional layer to what is already an exceptional military story. We continue to learn a lot more about Rev and his family, as well as his ‘battle buddy’ Punch, and there are some intriguing interactions with Punch that are starting to make Rev wonder about just how much control Punch exerts over him. This book sees some really interesting conspiracy storylines for Rev and his team, and as they unfold, we learn a lot about Rev and his integrity and his motivations as a person and a Marine.
On top of that, we also get to learn a lot about the rest of the team, not just Tomiko (who is still one of the best characters in this series), but those within the ‘Pact’, as well several of the more senior members including Gunnery Sgts, Lieutenants, all the way up to the Commandant. The character work continues to be one of the elements of this story that makes it such a standout within this genre.
The other aspect that has continued to make it a standout, is the combat sequences – something of which has to be a must for this type of book, and needs to be done right. The combat sequences are brutal, gritty and intensely realistic, not just in the level of the graphic nature, or the descriptions of the actions of what is taking place, but also in how each of those that are involved are feeling as they are having to deal with not just trying to fight to the death with an alien mech, but the loss of their comrades and friends, and both the sheer terror, as well as the adrenaline rush that these situations can cause. The Authors have captured the emotional state so well of Rev as he goes from the highs of killing a Centaur, or surviving a blast from one, to the panic when his weapon won’t work, or the terror/horror when he sees one of his friends is either about to die, or is dead. The augments he has to cope with this is fascinating – and as an Ex-Cop, I can only imagine how much easier it would have made my job – let alone the poor souls on the frontlines. The descriptive work is incredibly powerful and exceptionally well done.
This third book is a bit different to the first 2 in that there is a lot more mystery and intrigue and we learn a lot more about some of the other aspects of not just the Military, but other Organisations that exist within the Human Sphere, some of them not so good. It makes for a really captivating read, and once you start reading this book, you just won’t be able to put it down.
Sentenced to War continues to be one of the best Military Sci-Fi series I have read, with just exceptional characters, brilliant descriptive work, and amazing world building, and a storyline that you just can’t stop reading. I have already bought the rest of the series (both e-book and Audiobook), and I am already into book 4 – this is one series you just don’t want to miss, especially if you love Mil Sci-Fi!!
Jeffrey Kafer is one of the best narrators around when it comes to Mil Sci-Fi, he has such an outstanding voice for narrating this style of story. Whilst he can do a great set of voices, both male and female, and he does a great ‘range’ of voices to – so that you can distinguish who is talking during the narration (without having to be told), Kafer has this brilliant, almost clinical narrating style, that is perfect for a Military Sci-Fi story. I have always been amazed that he can create such exceptional voices, and provide the emotional background for these voices to, and at the same time, switch back to this detached style for the rest of the Narration – allowing you to know when someone is talking, and when the story is being told. His prologues and when he is filling you on background story is just exceptional.
Kafer is one of the best Narrators there is for Audio – and this is one of those that you just have to listen to as you will get so much more out of it rather than reading the book.

Good, but not as good as books 1 & 2
I am really enjoying this series, but I didn’t think this book was as good as the first two. It was too much of the same battle after battle after battle. I still wish there was some real character development of the other people, aide from just Rev. There are several principle characters who have been in all three books, and the only one we really know anything about is Rev.
I continue to have the same complaints with the narrator - the downward tone at the end of most sentences, and the lack of differentiation between characters.
I will definitely continue to listen on, though.

This is an entertaining series
I was looking for something that wasn’t endless graphic fight scenes with a description of every blow and counter.
This book did not disappoint. The back stories and plot complimented the storyline and kept me interested and at times obsessed.
I look forward to completing the rest of the books and see where the “Posse” ends up.

The Imperial Marines arrive in the nick of time, and they hate slavers. Three tri-years later, when the new emperor issues a proclamation to integrate the imperial military with non-human citizens, Leefe is among the first to volunteer. Story
The Genevians are at war with Nietzschea...and they’re losing. In a last-ditch hope, the Genevian mech program was founded. Its goal to augment humans into cyborg fighting machines; mechanized warriors sent to hold the front lines against an enemy that was storming a hundred worlds. Yet few wished to undergo the brutal process, and so criminals were used, their minds enslaved by control chips and obedience enforced through discipline.
