Story
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

"So many of us hold a deep belief that we were born unworthy," reflects Adyashanti, "inadequate, unlovable, and alone." But what if, in truth, we weren't put here to pay penance, change our karma, or "fix" ourselves? What if we chose to be here because we so loved the world that we poured ourselves into it - to make it whole again, to restore "the hidden divinity amid the disaster"? With Healing the Core Wound of Unworthiness, we're invited to entertain that possibility.

Publisher's Summary
Whether we call it the inner critic, superego, or just plain nag, most of us have a "judge within" who's constantly on our case. A comprehensive guide to understanding how the inner critic works, this book offers practical, positive suggestions for breaking free of it. Using straightforward language and examples from everyday life, Byron Brown shows: Where the inner judge came from. How it operates. Why it trips us up. Why we believe we need it. How to develop awareness of it. How to disengage from it. The "soul qualities" we can develop to weaken its influence. Each chapter begins with an episode of the "Frank and Sue story", dramatically illustrating how the inner critic works; each chapter ends with a simple exercise designed to help the listener move along the path of self-discovery.

Such important information
This book reinforced and deepened work I have been doing. It was clear and concise, and the stories were short but illustrative enough to enhance the messages without being boring., There were some glitches with the chapter numbers, and either my device or the content repeated. Ultimately, it just reinforced the information. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to release all the patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that do not serve.

Astounding, brilliant....
Would you consider the audio edition of Soul Without Shame to be better than the print version?
I wouldn't consider the print version because the way the brain interprets sound is different from the way it interprets words. Overthinking, rationalizing, judging--all these things can be softened by allowing yourself to sit back and listen.
Who was your favorite character and why?
N/A
What does Fajer Al-Kaisi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His voice brings depth, authority.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There a thousand things that moved me about this book. To name one would be impossible.

I found the first chapters a bit hard going, possibly as an audiobook it’s just a case of interacting with the content in a different way, and not being able to look away from the words and reflect so easily.
However I’ve found the bulk of the book enlightening, helpful and life-changing. I now have the confidence to see things differently and the tools to make real change. A vital tool in my journey.

how amazing your life will be once you’ve read this book
I patiently and painfully persisted with this book until it was unbearable about chapter 6 because it was recommended to me. I’ve never heard so little in so many words. Up til chapter six at least, the book is about how amazing your life will be once you’ve read this book. The content amounts to little, the rendition I’m sorry to say is equally awful - though I’m sure I couldn’t present a book like this any better.
