Story
A mutilated body is found dumped at Cowane's Hospital in the heart of historic Stirling. For DCI Malcolm Ford it's like nothing he's ever seen before, the savagery of the crime making him want to catch the murderer before he strikes again. For reporter Donna Blake it's a shot at the big time, a chance to get her career back on track and prove all the doubters wrong. But for close protection specialist Connor Fraser it's merely a grisly distraction from the day job.

Great entertainment
I don’t usually take the time to write reviews but this book deserves one. This is the second in a new series with Robert Hoon as the protagonist. Kirk has written good Scottish police procedurals and Robert Hoon has shown up as a character in some of them. So we have in fact met him before. His language was colorful but now as the main character the colorful adjectives abound. So if you find this use of language objectionable this is not the book for you. One character said that his language was sponsored by the word f***. Having said all of that I found the story interesting and Hoon’s inability to express himself without the word f*** ,laugh out loud funny. Angus King’s performance was pitch perfect. Great entertainment. Can’t wait to see what Robert Hoon
is up to next .

Kirk has found his stride with Hoon in this one
Bob Hoon can be almost too much but, when placed in the right mix of wonderfully engaging characters, his energy and one-of-kind bluster strike just the right note of hilarity and danger. I am now a fan. I just want to know how JD Kirk comes up with Hoon’s outrageous profanity. The creativity of his name calling is astounding. Does Kirk hang out with a bawdy uncle? In the midst of a very serious story I am bursting out loud with laughter at his epithets. And, as always, Angus King has got Hoon cold! This is murder mystery at its entertaining best.

Bob is as crumugin as they come. His use of the F word is like no other. The insults are brilliantly funny while still hitting their mark. Angus King is hands down the best narrator ever. I have loved all the J D Kirk books but this is by far the best book I have read or listened to. The Narrator is fantastic and together J D Kirk and Angus King make it like watching a film as you can see the whole thing in your mind. It really should be a film it would put James Bond or Mission Impossible in the shade. I laughed, cried and held my breath and loved the sarcastic humour of Bob Hoon. An absolute must to listen too!

Can't help but love Hoon
He's as hard as very hard nails and swears like a trooper, but has a heart of gold. He will do anything for his friends, but woe betide his enemies.
The way JD Kirk manages to write such laugh out loud funny and horribly scary stuff is only matched by the way he wheedles the F word into virtually every sentence, sometimes into words, it's amazing!
Can't wait for the next instalment.

You’ll never ever be disappointed with a JD Kirk book and Southpaw was brilliant. Love Hoon and can’t wait for the next instalment. Hopefully a wee Logan instalment (who I love just as much) should be out soon to keep me going. I’ve laughed, I’ve winced and I’ve even shed a wee tear whilst listening to this. Better than book one
The narrator was excellent and his reading of the story made the best story, better!
Hoon was a hoot. I laughed so much in places, I had to back track to catch up.
Hoon is tough and savvy. He has plenty of sass and can talk his way round in the scariest of situations.
He seems to have been in jeopardy many times and being tied up/down/ round and in between, never seems to phase him.
The F…. word is always part of his vocabulary, so beware if you are sensitive….
I have recommended this book to my Audible friends.

Great story - well produced!
A great story, but don't listen if you don't like swear words!!
Amazed at the narrator's ability to mimic a range of accents.😊
Well done. I

Great!
This was a great follow up to Northwind. The Narrator is brilliant in the deliverance of the book & it's characters. Great storyline & quite funny in parts too. Highly recommend reading Northwind first to get the full story.

Bob Hoon comes alive with Angus King!
A thoroughly enjoyable narration of an excellently written story. Although I am pretty sure J D Kirk writes characters with multinational accents just to test Angus out! But he is amazing that's for sure.
In this cracker of a tale, Bob goes 'undercover' for MI5. Yes, you heard correctly. MI5. His new mission introduces him to the mysterious Loop. A story with so many new and unusual characters, some of which you cheer for, others, not so much. Bob is constantly having to think on his feet, finding himself in sticky situations almost constantly, even putting his life on the line in a fight cage. Despite his 'mission' he has his own personal agenda, to find his friend's daughter who has been kidnapped by The Loop. I can't wait for the next Bob Hoon book.

The BEST writer/ narrator ever!!!
Devastated to have finished the 2nd Bob Hoon book, after listening to the DCI Logan series beforehand...99.9% of other reviews say everything I want to about these totally addictive storylines but even moreover, the characters! I think the record for the f*** word in any other book would be well and truly thrashed by now; if you don't like swearing don't even start on these books lol😈 The books make you feel like you want to personally meet everyone, and the banter, the brilliant one liners and detailed descriptions of hilarious scenarios are a perfect mix...can't rave enough about these books, it's all been said! When's the next one? 🤔

Bloody awesome!
I didn’t think anything could compete with the DCI Jack Logan books but then this spin off came! I love it. These books are perfection. I snort, I guffaw, grimace, and sometimes shed a tear. It’s gold. JD KIRK…do not stop!! If you do, I’ll set Hoon on you. Feel the fear.
