The galaxy just called for help. Unfortunately, the wrong man answered. When small-time con man Cal Carver is thrown in jail and forced to share a cell with a semi-naked, cannibalistic serial killer, he's pretty sure his day can't get any worse. Boy, is he wrong. It isn't until two-thirds of the human race is wiped out and Cal is mistakenly abducted by aliens that things really start to go downhill.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Hank is a thug. He knows he's a thug. He has no problem with that realization. In his view the galaxy has given him a gift: a mutation that allows him to withstand great deals of physical trauma. He puts his abilities to the best use possible and that isn't by being a scientist. Besides, the space station Belvaille doesn't need scientists. It is not, generally, a thinking person's locale. We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Absurd. Irreverent. A damn good time!
Imagine, if you will, a 7-foot-tall "valley girl" werewolf. Growl, like, fur shur. That is a sample of the alien cookie dough that is Space Team. With a nod to Star Trek & Galaxy Quest, Barry Hutchison has assembled the weirdest, funniest action figures you couldn't wait to rip out of their blister packs. Phil Thron's performance is among the best I have ever head! Great Fun!

Meh. Lots of meh.
Returned it before finishing. Just couldn’t roll with it. Narrator does a great job and the story had potential. The main character is too juvenile to be believable and there were several repeating obvious SJW cringe talking points worked in. Normally, they try and pass this kind of stuff off as “young adult” fiction. The truth is, it’s just bad writing with unoriginal solutions to half@$$3d problems. It’s fine for background noise, just not engaging otherwise.

Laugh out loud
A great genre-aware send-up of space opera fiction. A fine cast of characters with plenty of failings each and action sprinkled throughout. No overpowered characters here, all leaning on each other despite distrust and snarky banter. Wrapped up with feel good endings, this is a solid choice for fun.

Is it a slapstick comedy or a horror?
The story will jump back and forth from juvenile slapstick humor to depictions of torture and horror. Either could have made for a good book, but together, it is something that is targeted at kids, that you would never let your kids read.

Guardians of the Galaxy meets Futurama
Glad I got the collected adventures, it was a nonstop cliffhangers from the second to the third book. I am looking forward to the next few books as well. The MC is nonstop quaky and enduring, for a guy that lost his his entire planet and species. This is like a cross between Guardians of the Galaxy and Futurama. So far it is a great series with loads of laughs and witty satire.

Galaxy Quest meets Austin Powers
I have to be in the mood for silly spoofs of Star Trek, goofy pop culture references, and juvenile physical comedy. But, when in the mood, this omnibus hits all of my absurd funny bones. Narrator Thron’s exaggerated, pulpy portrayals are phenomenal, from valley girl sounding werewolf Miz to Mech the smart or strong cyborg. There’s translated cussing of the “what the flonk” variety and zero actual nooky, but there is a lot of teenage-level boob-jokes or ball-gags, so I’d rate this as for teens and up. By book 3, the PG tone changes a bit, where heads explode and torture is described instead of merely fading to black. But, it’s all still of the John Carpenter Goes to Mars variety.

everyone said Its funny
Eeryone said it was funny so I would thought I would give it a try. It is funny to be sure.
But it's all so gruesome and has elements of horror in it. I dislike that so much. I mean why does science fiction have to have Horror in it? Couldn't we have had a story without that? I'm sorry I used my credit.
The narrator is GREAT

An Unmissable Collection
Space Team has been one of the greatest listens on Audible I've ever had the pleasure of having, it's smart, funny and absolutely worth your time. It's helped me through this unfortunate quarantine more than pretty much anything else which is ironic now that I think about how the story begins.
Don't miss out, pick up this collection and get enough hours to last at least a few days listening.

Bored after half an hour and it doesn't get better
This book starts off with a severely obnoxious and childish protagonist, but then does a really fascinating trick (It's subtle, so you may miss it): It proceeds to never, ever, EVER, even slightly, waver AT ALL, from doubling down on this IDIOTIC, fucking JABBERING FOOL of a protagonist, as he falls and ricochets his way across the Universe, learning nothing along the way. In dedicating itself to its own internal nonsense it manages to remove any shred of importance on any of its events, because literally every scene is the guy going "Huh" and "Oh shiny", and the solution is always to let this random fool who cracks lame jokes and knows nothing bumble his way out of it again.
Douglas Adams this ain't.

Written by a 10 year old?
The reviews are great, the books not so much. I lasted till chapter 12 and nothing had even happened. The main character thinks he’s funny but he isn’t, not one bit! I’m sure some will love it but not me.

Totally Brilliant.
I purchased this book as I was looking for a new author. This book was recommended as "If you like Terry Pratchett you'll love this."
Tbh I decided that I didn't like the main character within 2minutes of listening. However I decided to stick it out and see how things went. By chapter 2 or 3 I was completely captivated and couldn't wait for my next opportunity to listen. Within a few months I have devoured all of the follow up books in this series.
The humour is fabulous and the science'y bits are few, and don't require a degree to understand. In fact they are written as if a human idiot such as myself can follow with ease.
Well written and narrated brilliantly.
As an avid Pratchett fan I can honestly say I think Barry J Hutchison is on par, if not better.
Note to Barry - Write faster! 😁

Loved it
I recently found out about Space Team on a social media site - and after reading the comments - decided to give it a go.
The books don’t take itself too seriously- and I loved that. Great adventures with quite a few unexpected turns and plot twist. I particularly love the banter between the team. As the books went on, I found myself really falling in love with each of the characters on the team - even Squirt.
Think of it as a fabulous cross between Guardians of the Galaxy & Hitchhikers GTTG - a good rollicking time to be had.
The narration is exceptional - and now has me looking for other works read by Phil Thron.
Do yourself a favor - and get it!
