Publisher's Summary

I suck at witchcraft. Coming from a long line of famous witches, I should be at the top of the heap. Problem is, if there's a spell cast anywhere near me, I'll somehow mess it up. As a probationary agent with the Arcane Bureau of Investigation, I have two choices: I can limp along and maybe pass myself off as a competent agent, or I can die. Horribly. Worse news? I seem to have a stalker in the form of a sinfully hot, perpetually grumpy wolf who seems to have a keen interest in keeping me alive. Whose idea was this again?

ROTFL with a side of heat

What a fun read. Loved the characters and the story was a ton of fun. Who doesn’t love a strong heroine that just can’t seem to get it right and a hot guy in denial? Excellent from the start to the end with suspense adventure and a great supporting cast. While I know you can’t go wrong with Annie Anderson, this story doesn’t slip anywhere. First class read.

I read the book first (which I pre-purchased) and then listened to the audio. I LOVE audio and although I did have a bit of trouble getting used to the narrators, it took me about 5 minutes to get totally involved in the story again. Loved the narrators and they brought the story to life. I was afraid I wouldn't love the audio since I'd already read the book but I actually enjoyed it more since I knew what was coming and picked up some nuances I missed before.

Fantastic Beginning!

I really liked Gene Thomas and Celeste Woodward‘s narration of the story. They did a fabulous job with each of the characters.

Spells and Slip Ups is a captivating and enjoyable story.
It’s full of mysteries waiting to be uncovered, steamy romance and heart.
I found myself almost instantly loving and caring about Wren, Nico, and all of Wren‘s new found friends.
Wren is so sweet, caring and intelligent. It’s heart breaking to know how she’s been singled out and treated but all that doesn’t break her.
Wren is definitely a fighter. Fierce when she needs to be and loyal to those she loves.
I adored how protective her circle was of her and the unconditional love they had for her even though they all just met.
I was so immersed in her story that the ending snuck up on me. Lol. I was like,“Wait, it‘s over? Oh shucks.“
I‘m excited for the next book and I can hardly wait to dive into it.

I love an underdog

I always root for the underdog and frankly Wren is a class A underdog. Rejected and scorned by her own family, with failing magic, she finds herself on the wrong side of the law and is faced with an incredible challenge. Become a recruit for the ABI or face a death sentence. Thrust into a training camp faced with unfriendly trainers, new paranormal friends or enemies and the absolute need to win at all costs - she has quite a battle ahead. The author loves to throw curveballs at her characters and Wren faces them like a champ.
I really enjoyed this book. I cannot wait to see where the story goes.

Wren and Nico

Wren Bannister is a witch, although not an extremely competent one, it seems. Her magic always ends up with “unintended consequences”, meaning she has an “explosive” talent for magic – which is not meant as a “good” thing. But even that has uses for the Arcane Bureau of Investigation as they snatch her up as a probationary agent to begin training. Nico Acosta, a very sexy Alpha Wolf, is an instructor for the group and finds himself being very protective of the awkward witch.

The reader will love these characters! Wren is good-hearted and a loyal friend. And Nico… whew! You’ll love the guy. Stick with this new series for the exciting ride. It’s fun, sassy, and will keep you entertained!

The narrators for the audiobook version are Celeste Woodward and Gene Thomas. Each of them do a great job with the voices and intonation to make it easy for the listener to get an accurate idea of what each character’s personality is like. It helps to set the mood and is a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book. These two will bring the story alive for you!

Nico and Wren

I love the development of Nico's character, also his understanding of the story as it happens. Also all the feels for Wren's past. And the little family she makes at the training school.

Just a note it does end on a cliff hanger. I can not wait for the second book!I

An amazing start to a new series!

And ooohhh it’s spicy! 🌶

I read the kindle version when it was released and loved everything about it, but somehow the Audible version has made me love it even more!

The narrators are absolute perfection. Nico’s narrator is just drool worthy 🤤

The story is once again stellar! Annie Anderson can tell a story better than most for sure!

Can’t wait for the next in the series! I already pre ordered the kindle version back in like May! It’s release date is September 27th and I can’t wait!

Absolutely fantastic

Oh my good golly! I absolutely loved this audiobook so much. Both of the narrators did a fantastic job with the story. I absolutely loved every single part of the story so much! Nico is the perfect amount of southern gentleman and over the top alpha that I love from supernatural romances. Wren is the most relatable cluster of bad luck and I loved her personality sooooo much! She my new favorite

Audio not so much, ebook great

*disclaimer first half of review is for audiobook, second half is for the ebook*

I loved the premise of spells and Slip-ups and I thought the storyline was enjoyable.
However the narration for me just didn't work.

I'll be honest, I do find it hard to retain information and keep my concentration for audios, I'm listening to more in the hopes that will become better. So for me the narrators voice is important, it has to keep my attention.

I found this narrator in particular with her accents a struggle and it's such a shame as the story as I said is a great premise.

Luckily I already have a copy of the ebook, so I switched over to read that instead.

The characters are great and have a sense of down to earthness about them. Wren had it down to a tee with her first opening lines "if f**king up were a super power, I'd be considered a god by now"
Her relationship with Nico was interesting and I loved the paranormal relationship built in with this storyline of Nico having to deal with his own issues and his pull towards Wren.

The world building is fantastic and the pacing is so fast with a lot going on that it's probably best its a series as things aren't tied up and book 1 is left on a cliff hanger.

I really enjoyed reading this new series and thought it was excellently executed to begin this new world.
I certainly look forward to reading book 2.
