Story
It's not easy being queen bee of an underworld abuzz with crooks and killers. Wielding my potent Ice and Stone elemental magic will get me only so far - my real secret is my tight-knit makeshift family, a motley crew of cops and criminals, dwarves, and playboys. My foster brother, Finnegan Lane, is my right-hand man, but when his suddenly not-dead relative comes back into the picture, I'm the one on the outside looking in.

It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America". Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power. I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick.

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity - and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Publisher's Summary
The next thrilling book in Jennifer Estep's New York Times and USA Today best-selling Elemental Assassin series.
Keep your friends close but your enemies within stabbing distance.
One important lesson I've learned in the assassination business is that to be the best, you have to roll with the punches. Now that I'm queen of Ashland's underworld - by default, not by choice - a lot more punches are being thrown my way. But I suppose that's the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld's top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position. Just when I think things are finally settling down, someone tries to murder me during a hush-hush underworld meeting. But the real surprise is how strangely familiar my shadowy assailant seems to be.
My job is to maintain order among killers, crooks, and thieves, and soon I'm embroiled in a bloody game where the ability to keep secrets could be the greatest superpower of all. My enemies have all sharpened their knives and laid their traps, waiting for me to fall. But this Spider weaves her own webs of death.

It's like reading a scripted template.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
No. I feel like listening the exact same story, over and over. Like a scripted episode in a never ending story. Like "Perry Rhodan" or "Service de surveillance des planètes primitives" (french, can't find the english version)
What does Lauren Fortgang bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Nice work on the narrator's acting.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. I would wait for the Netflix release.
Any additional comments?
Gin Blanco is always running out of magic juice against opponents that have unlimited supplies. This is happening in every book. She is the waekest elemental and too dumb to learn. It feels like this series end in book 5 with Mab's death. After that, it's like reading the same story with the super- villain's name changing. As if the book is written by someone esle with a template, like Startrek.

Here we go again...
If you could sum up Spider's Trap in three words, what would they be?
Same as before...
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Please please please make Gin live up to her description! The only fight she has been in so far where she started to show her so called powers was with Beauregard. This far into the series she can't just keep barely scraping by. Every one she fights against can last forever it seems and Gin is running out of power 5 minutes into the fight. She is supposed to be the baddest B*TCH in Ashland yet I haven't seen it so far.
What does Lauren Fortgang bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Lauren Fortgang is the saving grace in this series. She does a fantastic job with all of the characters and from one book to the next they stay the same. It is a pleasure listening to her.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I will say that I am hooked on the stories, every last one of them but I am frustrated every time I listen. I am invested in the characters and definitely will continue to listen, even if I have to be frustrated the whole time.
Any additional comments?
Early in the series Gins sister was killing people with her ice magic, gin makes ice lock picks and occasional ice daggers. Later Gin freezes a whole courtyard yet still can't freeze her enemies. She can bring down whole mountains with her stone magic but can't use it to attack her enemies.

Elemental Assassin my butt!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The performance was excellent as usual, but even great reading can't help this story.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment
Any additional comments?
This will be the last of these books I read. It should be sub-titled the "Incompetent Assassin". Gin and gang are just plain STUPID throughout this whole book. "I'm the SPIDER .. I'm THE bad a$$ ... I'm incredibly strong in two elements but I'll go up against a metal elemental with my metal knives and not even use my powers; not once but twice." The plot device was very derivative and the book was 100% more frustrating then enjoyable.

Love the spider series but...
I liked the new characters that came in to play. I like seeing how Gin is developing becoming the boss. What I didn't like was how slow this book felt And how many times I felt like I needed to yell at Gin do something that was so obvious. She is usually the cleverest and smartest bad guy around but this time she just kept missing the obvious. Also the long drawn out talking over every little thing they wanted to do to each other got old. Just do it already!

Same story different titles.
I loved this series at one point but its kinda repetitive now. Gen cant figure anything out. Mess with my family and I'm coming for you. My knives - I'm gonna cut you. Family almost dies. Make a bunch of food. End the book with i killed that person now there's another worse in the next book.
Same formula rinsed and repeated. I love the reader she is amazing as always but. I really need some more character growth.

I wish growth of the main character would happen
What did you like best about Spider's Trap? What did you like least?
The crew helping Gin
If you’ve listened to books by Jennifer Estep before, how does this one compare?
I like the characters I just want more growth from the main character.
Which scene was your favorite?
Gin is very slow to understand her powers. All the other elementals run rings around her. Gin is also always beaten to a pulp and in the last minute when she is about to died she kills them off. Gin need to learn how to work her magic efficiently.
Was Spider's Trap worth the listening time?
I think the narrator was great.

I am loving this series!
I read the first six chapters and then got the audio to listen to the rest of it.
I loved this book! The villain in it was a challenge for Gin to fight. And he wasn't even trying to kill her! He wanted to kill Lorelei Parker (I think that was her last name), because he thought she killed their father! When it was really Gin who killed him. Which he found out in the final fight.
I was sad when Owen was stabbed in the chest, but I didn't cry as Gin and Lorelei were able to save him.
I don't remember laughing at anything in this book. But it was still a fantastic story!
I am just loving this series!
