Publisher's Summary

The fate of empire is to crumble from within.

Duke Oliver Wellesley and the Priestess Samantha unmasked and destroyed a cabal of sorcerers planning an incredible sacrifice. But preventing the horrific bloodshed left lingering questions, and new attacks close to home prove the danger is not over.

Oliver must choose between his responsibilities to his family and the Crown, and seeking answers over the far horizon. As he struggles with the weight of expectation, he discovers new powers and an ancient magic that has been long forgotten. The tide of sorcery rises, and Oliver begins to understand that a sharp quill and a steel broadsword are not enough. To face the threat of the underworld, he’ll have to call upon the spirits of life.

Sam’s occult knowledge continues to grow, but in the face of new monsters, she realizes it is not enough, and the path to true strength is a dark one. Knowing the risk, she hesitates, but an unusual mentor opens the door to secrets best left unknown, and grants the opportunity to exceed what she thought was possible. But once upon it, the dark path is a difficult one to turn from, and the spirits of the underworld are treacherous allies.

The fate of empire is to crumble from within. Do not ask when, ask who.

Duke and Sam Deserved Better

The only reason I'm not giving this one star is because I loved the characters. I kept hoping the story would improve even after Sam and Duke became morons for the sake of the plot. I was sorely disappointed, it only got worse... The author was not only in desperate need of a thesaurus they also felt the need to keep repeating information. As for the ending, it came with a villain monologue and I was half-excepting the narrator to say they all lived happily ever after...

Too many psychopaths.

Didn't finish. it had the morality of a Trump rally. I sure they were magically saved at the end due their values.

I love this series!

I couldn't help but try and hold on to this series for a while. I wanted to rush through, know what happened next, but I took some time, forced myself too. All because it is so enjoyable and brilliantly done.

The way he writes the chapters from different characters view points. The way the females and males all feel accurate. The way the story unfolds. Just sublime.

Then the narrator! His voice is perfect for this one. The main character just feels so spot on with the inflection he gives him.

All together, this whole series has been a rollercoaster of fun. I adore it as much if not more then the Benjamin series. Can't wait for more.

Wasn't my favorite..meh

I stuck with the series hoping it would get better. The first book was pretty good, something different for sure. However, the others that followed went in a direction I just couldn't get my mind wrapped around.
Audio was okay. Vance's voice is easy going but not a lot of depth to different characters. Again, just not my favorite.

A good end to an interesting and enjoyable series

I don't want to give any spoilers so can't say too much about the story but if you enjoyed the previous books will also enjoy this one. There are some good twists. I liked the ending.

The narrator does an excellent job. He deserves thanks.

I loved the world that was created in this book and the rest of the series, I wish there were more stories.

I Liked Winchester the valet and how he dealt with the post, a pity we did not know what happened to him. He was a source of humour I appreciated. The fate of the sisters too would be nice to know.

I was not sure what to expect with this series but action/adventure, intrigue and some occult was an enjoyable and entertaining combination.

AC Cobble writes well and is very good at world building, without information overload.
