Spirited Christmas

An enjoyable read that will fill your heart with the Christmas spirit. Likeable characters, especially Esther the ghost. Great attitudes, a little snarkiness & a happy ending.

Joe Hempel is one of my favorite narrators and he does a great job with this book. I will definitely be looking for more booked in this series!

I was given the chance to listen to this book and chose to review it.

Merry Christmas!

I decided to listen to a short Christmas story this year. I haven’t listened to Shade books, but I’m familiar with Jones and Hempel. Bottom line? The story is cute and worth the short listen. Does it break ground? Nah. Did I want it to? Nah.

A spooky Christmas story

A little girl hires Jonathan to help her get rid of a ghost in her house.

Jonathan, is not sure, however, does go to her house to see. there is definitely a ghost. With further investigation, Jonathan uncovers the reason for the ghosts visits, which gets stronger around the holidays.

This was a great short listen and the narration was great as well.

An Enjoyable Short Story

“Spirited Christmas” is a short story featuring author, Gary Jonas’ private detective, Jonathan Shade. Although he has no magic or supernatural powers of his own, Shade specializes in paranormal cases. The one thing Shade does have on his side is that he's immune to magic. In “Spirited Christmas,” a little girl hires Shade to get rid of a ghost that haunts her family every Christmas. The hauntings have escalated from simple sightings to full possession. An exorcism seems to be what’s needed, but in Jonathan Shade’s world, things aren’t always as straight-forward as they seem.

“Spirited Christmas” is a good short story with a nice little twist to keep the reader/listener engaged. If you have never read/listened to a Jonathan Shade story before, you might be at a bit of a disadvantage. I would recommend picking up “Modern Sorcery.” It’s book one in the series. “Spirited Christmas” seems to follow “Modern Sorcery” in the Jonathan Shade, story timeline. If you choose not to pick up “Modern Sorcery,” you can definitely still enjoy “Spirited Christmas.” Overall, I just think you would be best served to start with book one in the series to fully appreciate things.

Finally, this audiobook was provided by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an honest review, courtesy of Audio Book Boom.

Great story that makes me want the series!

This is a great story. It's the first Jonathan Shade story I've experienced, and it makes me want more! I like the interaction between Jonathan, Kelly, and Esther. The fact that Jonathan carries around the typewriter that Esther's spirit is tied to so that she can join him in his investigations, makes me love him. This story is very interesting, and the narrator's performance makes the author's work come to life brilliantly.

Feel-good Christmas mystery

I have never read/ listened to any other books in this series. Due to this, i have little insight into the background of any of the characters but, this did not detract from the storyline. I quite enjoyed this short story and would like to listen/ read more of these books
.
This story is a feel-good Christmas story with a little paranormal mystery. No sex scenes or violent parts or swearing.

The narrator did well giving a voice to all the characters.

Entertaining small slice of Jonathan Shade world

This is just a short story rather than a full novel, but it was still an entertaining episode in the world of Jonathan Shade with some interesting twists and adding to the overall depth of the recurring characters.

The narrator does another good job and their narration serves to enhance this short story.

Overall, just a quick visit to this character, but an entertaining one.

Ghost Haunting for Christmas.

A truly enjoyable tale of Ghost detective Jonathan Shade who was hired by a little girl to get rid of the ghost haunting her family. Though short, it kept my attention and had me on the edge of my seat especially when the twists hit.
This is one for the books and something light and quick a first time audio listener would like to get started. And the narrator's voice and inflection were pretty good. I'd listen to him again.
Recommended.
