Excellent story

I didn’t want it to end. Edge of seat suspense... interwoven with a beautiful story of friendship in the midst of espionage. You outdid yourself Patricia!

Too Much Romance Not Enough Mystery

The main focus in this book is romance - while there is a mystery going on there was way too much head conversations with main characters and their feelings vs the mystery. If you like sappy romance then this book has it; suspense and mystery meh.... Also at the end of the book it wraps up so quickly after hours and hours of building up the mystery and the whodunit was just poof! Oh well, not for me.

Toby

Doesn't anyone pay attention to a growling, barking dog?

He's saying there's a man in the house with a bomb!

Toby's small but clearly he knows his job!

Worst narrator I’ve ever heard

I typically love Patricia Bradley but I was super surprised at this book. It felt choppy end it was very hard to follow but then I couldn’t make it past chapter 6. I honestly tried. I wanted to like the book but I have to say out of over 150 audio books in my library this was the worst narration I’ve ever heard! It was read so slowly and paused in the oddest places that I wanted to pull the words from her mouth. I tried speeding up the audio to 1.1 but then it sounded more strange. It’s odd that write the rating shows almost 5 stars yet if you check in other places there’s multiple people that have stated the same thing I have, worst narration ever. I’m just so surprised since like I said earlier, I usually love Patricia Bradley‘s books. I don’t submit a whole lot of reviews but I certainly had to do this one.

8 out of 10

Just finished this book & couldn’t come up with an appropriate title! So instead I just entitled it, how I rated it! The narrator was decent! She did mail voices better than most females do, and she was pretty good with her character differentiation! She had a little trouble with some accents, but that’s no biggie to me! All in all, I thought she was pretty good! The storyline wasn’t bad, except the subject has been done SO MUCH!!! I thought the characters were easy to connect with, which makes any book more interesting and fun no matter the subject! My only little issue was the abrupt ending! That was a bit like coming home at the end a great road trip vacation and having the electric garage door crash down on top of your car as your driving into the garage! It just seemed so, “BOOM.” Cut off so quickly, sharply, and with a bit of an edge! Would rather have had a tiny bit of smoothing it out to finalize it all! 🤔🧐🤗😊

Ending?

That was probably the most abrupt ending to a book I've ever read. The rest of the story was good.

Really bad narration

I picked up this series because of its setting on the Natchez Trace, one of my favorite places. The story isn’t bad, in fact it’s a testament to the storyline (and my love of the Natchez Trace) that I stayed with this audiobook through one of the worst narrations I’ve ever heard.

Being a southern gal, I know how to pronounce Natchez and it’s not the way this narrator did. Her delivery is uneven, with odd pauses and emphasis placed in strange places, and dialog and accents were laughable. The narration nearly ruins the story. I almost quit in the beginning when she mispronounced Natchez, but tried to give her a chance. It never got better, although she did accidentally pronounce Natchez correctly a few times.

If you want to read it, I suggest picking up the written copy of the book rather than the audiobook. The genre is Christian mystery, and the story was pretty good, just a little heavy on the romance angle.
