Worlds that believe in magic consider it Darkness's mightiest talisman; and worlds of science consider it a lost artifact of some ancient and forgotten race. Some say the Heart enables its possessor to control people's minds and to amass wealth enough for a dozen lifetimes, while others think it capable of raising the dead, perhaps even changing the flow of time itself. But to all, the location of this fabled object has remained a mystery, until now.

Publisher's Summary
Imzadi: to the people of the planet Betazed, including counsellor Deanna Troi of the Starship Enterprise, it means "beloved" and denotes a special closeness that can never be truly broken. Or can it? Best selling author Peter David explored the special bond between Troi and Commander Riker in his earlier novel, Imzadi. Now, he examines the heart of Deanna Troi from an altogether different perspective, as he reveals for the first time the full story of Troi's troubled romance with Lieutenant Commander Worf. At first glance, they cannot be more different. She is an empath, gentle and acutely sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. He is a fierce Klingon warrior, dedicated to a harsh and war-like code of honor. Brought together, however, by a common need to care for Alexander, Worf's troubled, motherless son, they discover hidden reserves of courage and compassion within each other and embark on an unexpected courtship, much to the suprise and discomfort of William Riker. But does Worf's future really lie with Deanna...or on a distant outpost called Deep Space Nine? And who shall Troi ultimately call Imzadi? Imzadi ll is a compelling story about an untold chapter in the history of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

i hate abridged books
would have been much better with a full length version i am sure, the storyline is kinda butchered and the narrator while not bad is getting low marks for his strange efforts at accents, but i liked him otherwise.

Unworthy sequel
For those of you who are Star Trek Fans.... Avoid this audio book. This is a classic example of the description being better than the actual story. Author, Peter David, constantly shift his attention between main characters, making it hard to follow and harder to care.

Absolutely Vile
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Nothing. This book stinks from start to finish.
What was most disappointing about Peter David’s story?
Reading this book completely ruined the pleasure of the original Imzadi story.
What aspect of Robert O' Reilly’s performance might you have changed?
Robert does the very best he can with the sub-standard material he has to perform.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Peter David has placed some truly awful, immature and cringeworthy lines into our heroes' mouths over the years but having a twenty-fourth century Starfleet Officer say "I wanted to punch you out" made me want to puke.

Story
Conquered by the Jao twenty years ago, the Earth is shackled under alien tyranny - and threatened by the even more dangerous Ekhat, one of whose genocidal extermination fleets is coming to the solar system. The only chance for human survival is in the hands of an unusual pair of allies: a young Jao prince, newly arrived to Terra to assume his duties, and a young human woman brought up amongst the Jao occupiers. But, as their tentative alliance takes shape, they are under pressure from all sides.

Story
It was supposed to be a simple test flight, one that pilot Ariane Austin was on only as a last-ditch backup; intelligent, superhumanly fast automation would handle the test activation and flight of humanity's first faster-than-light vessel. But when the Sandrisson Drive activated, every automated system crashed, the nuclear reactor itself shut down, and only the reflexes and training of a racing pilot saved the test vessel Holy Grail from crashing into the impossible wall that had appeared before them.

Arcana has never encountered another intelligent species while exploring scores of other worlds. No cities, no vast empires, no civilizations, and no equivalent of their own dragons, gryphons, spells, and wizards. But all of that is about to change. It seems there is intelligent life elsewhere in the multiverse. Other human intelligent life, with terrifying new weapons and powers of the mind...and wizards who go by the strange title of ''scientist''.

Story
They're all gone. We remember them like yesterday: pieces of our stolen heritage. Things like NASA. Football. Parades and pies. Good things, comfortable things. We remember a time when we were alone in the universe, safe and oblivious. But it's all gone now. We called them the Telestines, and in the face of their ruthless invasion we were powerless. By 2040, all the world's governments and militaries had fallen, and the remnants of humanity exiled to the solar system. We looked down on our blue planet, so close to our birthplace, so close to our home.

A mysterious terrorist organisation has carried out several attacks against the Federation and Klingon Empire. Tensions are running high in a region already crippled by conflict. The perpetrators are tracked to the Lembatta Cluster, a mysterious region of space whose inhabitants, the Renao, regard the Alpha Quadrant s powers as little more than conquering tyrants. The Federation are desperate to prevent more bloodshed, and have sent their most powerful warship, the USS Prometheus, into the Cluster to investigate the threat before all-consuming war breaks out.
