Story
For the handful of scattered Jedi, survival is imperative if the light side of the Force is to be protected and the galaxy somehow, someday reclaimed. Yet more important still is the well-being of the twin infants, Leia and Luke Skywalker, the children of Anakin and his doomed bride, Padme Amidala. Separated after Padme's death, they must be made safe at all costs, lest the hope they represent for the future be turned to horror by the new Sith regime, and the unspeakable power of the dark side.

Across the galaxy, the Clone Wars are raging. The Separatists, led by Count Dooku, the onetime Jedi and now secret Sith Lord, continue to press forward, and more and more worlds are either falling, or seceding and joining the cause. Under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, the Republic heroically battles on, championed by its huge army of cloned soldiers and their Jedi generals. Anakin Skywalker, believed by some to be the prophesied “Chosen One” destined to bring balance to the Force, is now a Jedi Knight under the tutelage of his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Publisher's Summary
The war that erupted in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones is nearing its boiling point. The dauntless Separatist forces continue their assault on the teetering Republic as the diabolical triumvirate of Count Dooku, General Grievous, and their Master, Darth Sidious, fine-tune their strategy for conquest. In Episode III Revenge of the Sith the fates of key players on both sides of the conflict will be sealed. But first, crucial events that pave the way to that time of reckoning unfold in a labyrinth of evil.
Capturing Trade Federation Viceroy and Separatist Councilmember Nute Gunray is the mission that brings Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, with a squad of clones in tow, to Neimoidia. Their daring efforts yield an unexpected prize: a unique holotransceiver that bears intelligence capable of leading the Republic forces to their ultimate quarry, the ever-elusive Darth Sidious.
Swiftly taking up the chase, Anakin and Obi-Wan follow clues from the droid factories of Charros IV to the far-flung worlds of the Outer Rim...every step bringing them closer to pinpointing the location of the Sith Lord, whom they suspect has been manipulating every aspect of the Separatist rebellion.
Then the trail takes a shocking turn. For Sidious and his minions have set in motion a ruthlessly orchestrated campaign to divide and overwhelm the Jedi forces and bring the Republic to its knees.

Featured Article: Tap into Your Inner Jedi (or Sith) with the 66 Best Star Wars Audiobooks in the Galaxy
In the 45 years since George Lucas's interstellar fantasy epic Star Wars first hit theaters, the saga has grown to include 12 canonical feature-length films (and counting), a growing number of shows (both animated and live-action), and hundreds of novels and comics inspired by that galaxy far, far away. But there's nothing quite like the magic of a Star Wars audiobook. The stories featured in this collection are as vast and varied as the universe in which they're set.

Good, could be better
Labyrinth Of Evil the novel is fantastic. Labyrinth of Evil the audiobook leaves too many holes to be fantastic. All of the main characters face omissions. Their thoughts are vital to this storyline. Yoda, Windu's and Palpatine's scene are compressed. Yoda's thoughts on the currents of the force are compressed. Yoda's realization that his arrogance has imbued to the Jedi Order a dispiritedness that the dark side of the force is overtaking the Jedi order is gone. C-3P0's inadvertant meeting with the droid soothsayer seemed valuable to retain. I think that Labyrinth of Evil and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader should have been unabridged audiobooks because of their value to the pre-quel story line. The narrator does an admirable job with all those voices.

Casual fan? You'll Love Abridged. Die Hard? Left wanting more
Huge SW fan, I've listened to more than 10 SW audiobooks in the past 2 months and haven't been disappointed by a single one. Luceno's other novel, Darth Plageuis, is my favorite and I STRONGLY recommend checking that out because it's just incredible.
If you're a casual fan who's just trying to fill in the gaps between films 2 and 3, this will suffice. There's a lot of action in the book, and the abridged version covers all the fight scenes, complete with sound effects and all the angsty Anakin-ness you could ever hope for. However, if you're someone like me who is in these books for the long haul, trying to understand characters inner machinations, walking through tactical maneuvers by the Dark Side, you're left wondering why things are moving so quickly. I wanted a better understanding of Dooku's training, of GGs reconstruction by the banking clan, and his training. Just never materialized.
Full disclosure, haven't read the actual book (love audible because I drive everywhere, and often far distances), so I'm not sure what was cut out

That business on Cato Nomdia doesn’t count
This book is awesome. Even abridged. This story takes us on the hunt for Darth Sidious. While working with the original clone wars series this novel excels. Once it was “The Official Prequel” to Episode 3. Now it’s it’s a Legend. Which is fine with me. The novelization of 1-4 are all Legends anyway. Seriously look it up. I digress. This is a great novel stating Mace Windu and his commandos, as well as Obi-Wan and Anakin. Sit back and enjoy and awesome story (I like to think of old Legends as mini audio movies of books I loved.)
Don’t hate. Embrace the peace of Star Wars Legends. Proven entertainment from 1977 to 2014. There is enough reading for half a life time. May the Force Be With You.

Character Direction
General Grevious in this story, is the most interesting character. However, it seems clear that Anakin's fall into darkness is meant to be the main plot of this story. Anakin is mentioned less than half of the time you'll spend with this book.

Abridged
This abridged version "reads" easier than the print version. Luceno is a great Star Wars author, but it seems that he gets bogged down in too much setting depth in the book. This audio book has a much better flow. It balances event pacing with character development.
