Story
With each victory against the Corellian rebels, Jacen Solo becomes more admired, more powerful, and more certain of achieving galactic peace. But that peace may come at a price. Despite strained relationships caused by opposing sympathies in the war, Han and Leia Solo and Luke and Mara Skywalker remain united by one frightening suspicion: Someone insidious is manipulating this war, and if he or she isn't stopped, all efforts at reconciliation may be for naught.

As the Jedi and the Republic focus on internal struggles, a new threat surfaces beyond the farthest reaches of the Outer Rim. An enemy appears from outside known space, bearing weapons and technology unlike anything New Republic scientists have ever seen. Suddenly, Luke, Mara, Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, along with their children, are thrust again into battle. But this time, all their courage, sacrifice, and even the power of the Force itself, may not be enough.

The deaths of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, and victory at the Battle of Endor by no means spelled the end of the Empire. In the aftermath, the New Republic has faced a constant struggle to survive and grow. And now a new threat looms: a masterpiece of Alderaanian art, lost in transit after the planet's destruction, has resurfaced on the black market. Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Publisher's Summary
As civil war threatens the unity of the Galactic Alliance, Han and Leia Solo have enraged their families and the Jedi by joining the Corellian insurgents. But the Solos draw the line when they discover the rebels' plot to make the Hapan Consortium an ally, which rests upon Hapan nobles murdering their pro-Alliance queen and her daughter.
Yet the Solos' selfless determination to save the queen cannot dispel the inescapable consequences of their actions, which will pit mother against son and brother against sister in the battles ahead. For as Jacen Solo's dark powers grow stronger under the Dark Jedi Lumiya, and his influence over Ben Skywalker becomes more insidious, Luke's concern for his nephew forces him into a life-and-death struggle against his fiercest foe. And Han and Leia Solo find themselves at the mercy of their deadliest enemy: their son.

Great Because of Sounds and Music
Having read lots of the Star Wars books, and sometimes getting bored in the more daunting parts, I really enjoyed this audiobook because of the rich sound effects, the wide range of well-selected John Williams music, and altered pacing. This, combined with the narrator's many affected voices, make the story much more exciting for me.

Very well done! A great series continues!
Very well done for a Star Wars audiobook. Even though it is abridged, the 6 hour run-time leaves enough material to make this audiobook entertaining. That said, you can still notice gaps where, I assume, material was cut out for the abridgement. This can be annoying after a while. I won't beat around the bush, I loathe any abridgement and I would encourage people to complain to the publisher so that they will begin releasing unabridged versions of these books. Other than that, this book was excellent. Marc Thompson is one of the most talented narrators that I have heard. It is a pleasure to listen to him. The different character voices that he assumes throughout the book are executed flawlessly and I had to keep reminding myself that it was the same person speaking. The writing, sound production, and music were all top notch. I would give this 5 stars if not for the abridgement.
One last thing, stay away from any of the star wars audiobooks that are less than 6 hours in length. They are so butchered by the abridgements, that they are not worth your time or money. Quite a few of these are narrated by Anthony Heald and he is just plain awful. I found this out the hard way. Just remember, Anthony Heald = extremely poor narration. Jonathan Davis = Extremely good narration. Marc Thompson = Outstanding narration.

Abridgement Not Worth It
I am disappointed in Del Rey that they have put this series out in such a butchered, abridged format. Entire chapters and story points are missing from this abridgement which are very jarring if you have read the book. Star Wars fans expect a lot, and we didn't get it from these abridgements. I was actually hoping I could stop reading the actual books and just listen to the audiobooks because my reading time is limited. But, after listening to this one and seeing how much they left out, I won't be doing that. I am glad to see they have come to their senses and done unabridged audiobooks of the Fate of the Jedi series. When I get done with actually reading Legacy of the Force, I will listen to those audiobooks. But, I won't buy another abridged Star Wars novel after this.

The Force Is Strong With This One
What did you love best about Star Wars: Legacy of the Force #3: Tempest?
The story. It's by far the best book in the series.
What other book might you compare Star Wars: Legacy of the Force #3: Tempest to and why?
No book really comes to mind, at least nothing outside of the Star Wars universe.
What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His acting makes this book come to life, and is probably the reason I enjoyed it so much. There was one section where he decides to use the Nemoidian accent. And, well... if you've seen Phantom Menace, you know what's wrong there.
Other than that he's superb, and makes these worth listening to.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The ending was both really exciting and a little depressing. The action scenes also had me gripped, I really wasn't able to focus on anything else while those were going on.
Any additional comments?
I'm super happy that I found the audio versions of these novels. I'm sure the book is great, but the audio adds that addition layer that you just don't get from the printed novels.

Good book
It was a good book but not to much happened till the end, wicked fight and cool space battle at the end but the book felt like more of a middle book of three or a building book. Still had fun listening to it tho as always just wish it wasn’t abridged
