Publisher's Summary

National best seller • The fate of the Chiss Ascendancy hangs in the balance in the epic finale of the Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy from Timothy Zahn.

For thousands of years, the Chiss Ascendancy has been an island of calm, a center of power, and a beacon of integrity. It is led by the Nine Ruling Families, whose leadership stands as a bulwark of stability against the Chaos of the Unknown Regions.

But that stability has been eroded by a cunning foe who winnows away trust and loyalty in equal measure. Bonds of fidelity have given way to lines of division among the families. Despite the efforts of the Expansionary Defense Fleet, the Ascendancy slips closer and closer to civil war.

The Chiss are no strangers to war. Their mythic status in the Chaos was earned through conflict and terrible deeds, some long buried. Until now. To ensure the Ascendancy’s future, Thrawn will delve deep into its past, uncovering the dark secrets surrounding the ascension of the First Ruling Family. But the truth of a family’s legacy is only as strong as the legend that supports it. Even if that legend turns out to be a lie.

To secure the salvation of the Ascendancy, is Thrawn willing to sacrifice everything? Including the only home he has ever known?

Exceptional Ending… and Beginning.

I had eagerly awaited this book of my favorite Star Wars character since I finished Greater Good the day it was released. I can say with complete honesty that it was well worth the wait. An excellent conclusion to the Ascendancy Trilogy that blends seamlessly into the recent Thrawn Trilogy.
An unexpected result of both trilogies cast Thrawn in a completely different light when I reread the original Thrawn trilogy of Star Wars Legends. It was clear that Zahn had originally created the best villain he could but his creation instantly became a fan favorite. Now that Heir to the Empire is cast into Legends, Thrawn is reborn. I am looking forward to seeing what Zahn has cooked up for the Chiss Admiral.
And looking forward to see who will have the honor of being painted blue and stands across from Rosario Dawson in Ashoka.

Marc Thompson Always Nails It

This, as with many novels within the Star Wars universe , is another example of how skilled Marc is, characterizing so many, coming from just one person. We are very lucky to have narrators like Marc Thompson, Jonathan Davis, and a few others, that can carry a 20 hour novel and make it sound as if a whole cast was on hand.
I apologize as I read a few that didn’t like Marc… the author, as well, is one of the very best I have ever read. All his novels are next level and a pleasure to read, to listen to and to refer friends to.
Don’t mis out on anything Timothy Zahn writes or Marc and Jonathan and many others narrate.

Good Zahn, Poor Narrator

I've listened to Many MT Star Wars books. most are good. Some choices are Very bad. The Afe vocal effects in "Thrawn" are physically painful and annoying to hear, and the Kilji of this book are exasperating. I have 23 more hours in this book, and I'm already sick of the way Marc portrays them. PLEASE stop doing overly-alien voices for your aliens, listeners are usually good at sorting one group from another.

Absolutely fantastic

This is the crowning achievement of Timothy Zahn.
Marc Thompson (The Voice of Star Wars) once again delivered a fantastic performance solidifying him as the best Star Wars narrator.

the gross gaspi voices make me want to turn it off

the performance of the voices were awful. I wanted to turn it off immediately. The scratchy voices were almost painful. it ruined the book, I can't finish it. I guess I'll buy the book, I know the story is likely great.. but this narration is offensive.

Amazing !

Timothy Zahn is an amazing author and this trilogy of thrawn books does not disappoint. Mark thompson, the narrator, is also my favorite narrator for Star wars books. I highly recommend this book and all of the other books written by Timothy Zahn.

Best in the saga!

like two books in one! While one may be daunted by the fact this book is almost double the length of the others it is actually for the best as there is so much backstory covered. I enjoyed it immensely. the story was great and the narrorator was wonderful as always. the characters all came to life and I ended the saga fulfilled and satisfied. absolutely a must read.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

ok so I'm a huge freaking Thrawn fan & have been waiting FoReVeR for the third book to come out! while I was definitely hoping to get more insight into the future of the starwars series as a whole (& more or less did) it also was such a great book on its own! I was laughing, crying, and sitting on the edge of my seat at various points. I definitely recommend! as always,Marc Thompson was an absolute gem!

THIS HAD BETTER NOT BE LAST THRAWN NOVEL OR THERE WILL BE RIOTING IN THE STREETS

A lesser Thrawn novel

I am a fan of the character and the series, but I think each book in the series gets longer than it needs to be - it could easily have done with 30% fewer pages/hours.

I appreciated the performance and the overall story of the book, but I really wish it had more time to tighten up the pacing, the soliloquies of the Thrawn haters and defenders, the at times over-focus on battle details, and the dialog. The series is giving me flashbacks to the Wheel of Time series…I’m hoping the return to Lesser Space provides an opportunity to pick things up again.

Another future class is Star Wars book

For me this series has given the Star Wars saga a new dimension within the same timeline as the popular stores of Darth Vader and Co.
Brilliantly written with plenty of peaks and troughs to keep you coming back for more. The characters are well built with narrative for each which brings a connection with the reader.
The material kept you guessing and the finish to this book was brilliantly concluded.

A future TV series in my opinion for this latest trio of books.

A Masterpiece

A remarkable story. Brings a satisfying end to the Ascendancy trilogy. The space politics are intense and dramatic. Possibly might seem a bit slow to some but the suspense the author builds throughout is palpable. A story not to be missed

Meh!

Slow and predictable, character voices that would grate on my ears. This whole series of Zahn seems more to be setting up the next storyline for another book than giving any substance. Overall fairly disappointed, no real star wars feel to it. Don't feel like I've gained anything from listening to this book except scepticism for the next release from this author.

A Very Star Trek Star Wars Book

I really enjoyed this book. Although it took me a while to get through, it had me on my toes. Like the other Thrawn books, this was way more science fiction.
Even though I knew it was coming, I still really felt sorry for Thrawn as he was removed from his position in the Chiss Society. It felt so unfair.

Overall, I really liked this book; it was well written and was the perfect ending of this trilogy. I hope there will be more Thrawn books to come. Honestly, it was almost a five-star read, but it was a LONG read.

Timothy Zahn has done it again.

My goodness. I mean. I shouldn't be surprised anymore. but for reals, the hits just keep on coming. Zahn is the forever master.

He just keeps on managing to take things up a notch, again and again. And with the partial Canonization of a certain legands book via the use of flashbacks to some key moments, the stage is now set for the next chapter. A chapter I suspect we'll see begin in the Ahsoka series, although I dearly hope that Zahn will have the opportunity to make contributions to any live action completion of this saga, assuming Lucasfilm opt to complete the Thrawn saga entirely in live action rather than reverting to books for the finale.
