Story
On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First, he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce - and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So, we fight, to defend Earth and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.

Story
When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Started out good
I'm just going to get to the point here. Apparently, in the future, it's ok to have sex with underage girls. The protagonist in this story just turns 17 and falls for a 24-year-old. By the end of the book they are sleeping together and everyone is ok with it and I'm pretty sure she didn't have another birthday during the trip.
When the first contact is made, every alien race is so welcoming and glad to meet you. How lucky for our heroes. One last thing, I hope you like the word "honor" because by the end of the book you're going to hear it a thousand times. It was maddening.
This story did start out really well. I had high hopes and liked where it was going. Then it all fell apart. Everything just neatly falls into place. There was very little tension in the book. Oh, there was a couple of quick little battles but nothing to give you the feeling like all was lost.

Awesome listen! Classic sci-fi at its best.
What made the experience of listening to StarBridge the most enjoyable?
I'd read this book years ago and always liked it but hearing it made me love it.
What did you like best about this story?
It's sci-fi at it's best with a heart and great characters which is really rare.
What does Romy Nordlinger bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator Romy Nordlinger is fabuluous and helped me believe some pretty far out situations by grounding them in reality and very strong characterizations - and she's easy to listen to.
Any additional comments?
I'm going to listen to this whole series!!!

Waist of time, YA series.
First for the non spoilers. This is very much written in the style of a YA series. It had potential but really it got repetitive very quickly, everything works out very quickly, and there is very little tension or consequences. Not worth your time.
Spoilers from this point on, do not read if you intend to continue the book or series...
Okay, you were warned. So Mahree is a total slut and after catching Roberts heart goes on to lead him on for decades. While he sacrifices his life and deals with depression and living away from the love of his life (all while sacrificing his future to selflessly help the youth of the future and alien cooperation) she seeks glory while adventuring across the galaxy.
She gets to have her cake and eat it too sleeping with guys all over the galaxy then come home to vacation with hubby. Towards the end of the series she even leaves her daughter with Robert and goes to f*** some Indiana Jones wannabe.

Nonsexual excellent adventure, then a sex story!?
Most of the story is well crafted and enjoyable, but within the last four hours or starting around chapter 14 the story resembles life in a federal prison being described as a luxury resort. It gets to be appallingly (and literally) unbelievable. Also, some should know this is a not particularly romantic sex story, though this does not really become apparent until about the same place the story becomes unbelievable. The effort to include sex is probably related to the quality of the story falling apart.

I will try the next one
What was so-so - a slow start at the beginning while getting to know the characters.
What I loved - As the story picks up, the scenes are decently set, the characters really fill out, and the story line takes some twists and turns. I came to be invested in the characters and the star trek like progress of the story enough I want to continue.
What I hated - the gratuitous inclusion of a poorly written sex scene. When I see this in a sci-fi book it always seems to me they include it simply to try to make more sales, even though the story is doing just fine on it's own, and the inclusion is uneeded to move the story along. If I wanted to listen to poorly written sex encounters I would buy a romance novel.

Story
NASA discovered the alien ship lurking in the asteroid belt in the 1960's. They kept the Target under intense surveillance for decades, letting the public believe they were exploring the solar system, while they worked feverishly to refine the technology needed to reach it. Dr. Jane Holloway is content documenting nearly-extinct languages and had never contemplated becoming an astronaut. But when NASA recruits her to join a team of military scientists for an expedition to the Target, it's an adventure she can't refuse.

"When the Betelgeuse message was detected, it changed a lot of things on Earth. We began to look seriously outward, not with the heady optimism of the early days, but with deliberate calculation. We knew that Someone was out there, and that eventually, they’d be coming. If Earth didn’t occupy the High Frontier, it could be ours to lose."

Story
Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength. Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped. But that was only the beginning for Sassinak.
