Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

Publisher's Summary
FIRST IN THE GUARDIANS TRILOGY
#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents a trilogy about three women and three men who join forces to solve an ancient mystery through the power of timeless love…
Sasha Riggs is a reclusive artist, haunted by dreams and nightmares that she turns into extraordinary paintings. Her visions lead her to the Greek island of Corfu, where five others have been lured to seek the fire star. Sasha recognizes them, because she has drawn them: a magician, an archaeologist, a wanderer, a fighter, a loner. All on a quest. All with secrets.
Sasha is the one who holds them together - the seer. And in the magician, Bran Killian, she sees a man of immense power and compassion. As Sasha struggles with her rare ability, Bran is there to support her, challenge her, and believe in her.
But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they must all work together as a team to find the fire star in a cradle of land beneath the sea. Over their every attempt at trust, unity, and love, a dark threat looms. And it seeks to corrupt everything that stands in its way of possessing the stars....

Entertainment
After listening to this book I wanted to find the rest of the series so I read other views. I am not a book connoisseur, but when I read the reviews of this book I was surprised at the criticism. To me reading is like watching a movie in slow motion. If I can picture what is being described, then it is like I am there and feeling their emotions and visualizing the scenery. Writing is definitively a skill very few people possess. If I am not drawn into a story, I move on. Someone else may find it fascinating. Spewing negative comments from behind an internet vail of who you are is sad. Try saying positive things, it will make your life better and a nicer place to live.

Typical NR
Kind of typical for a Nora Roberts magic trilogy. Three women, one kickass, one damaged and shy, one a little fey, and three men. All in a magical quests to find three things, stones in this case, but you could sub in fates or keys or whatever. The narrator does a great job in the women's voices, but the male accents are just kind of laughable and distracting. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I found I had to rewind quite a bit because it didn't hold my attention. I'll get the rest when they come out, if I remember.

Not her best, hope the rest of the series is better
First, I found elements of this story to be a repeat of the O'Dwyer series which I loved, this was a weak copy. Second, I am really satisfied with Roarke's voice and the Irish voices in the O'Dwyer series and I found the narrator's voice for the two Irish men to be fake and annoying. I actually hope they will change narrators, it could greatly enhance the quality of the story.

Entertaining, enjoyable, classic NR
Would you consider the audio edition of Stars of Fortune to be better than the print version?
The narration was very good. I thought the accents were good. I cannot see to read books anymore. I have always enjoyed NR's writing.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Stars of Fortune?
I think this is a childish question. I enjoyed entire book. It was written in what most might say an older style. Almost like she pulled an older manuscript. The story is entertaining nonetheless. The "F" bomb isn't used every sentence. Which I appreciate. The sex was not 5 pages long which I appreciate.
Olerate
What about Saskia Maarleveld’s performance did you like?
Ok now here is the rub. I normally do not like narrators who allow that breathy ending to the majority of the reading. Maybe I was just so hungry for a book I could tolerate. I actually adjusted, her reading otherwise was very good. I appreciated her accents I really like the female voices sound female and the male voice sound very male with only one narrator. She gave each character distinction which is critical to me. I
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Get rid of this question. How the heck should I know. I can't "watch" movies.
The tag line and what is that anyway.
This is a pleasure able , entertaining story, well told, well narrated. When that is your main source of entertainment it is high praise.
Any additional comments?

Horrible narration
For the second time, the narrator for a series of Nora Roberts novel is awful. Horrible accents and voices. The story was interesting, but I had a hard time getting into the story because of the persistently bad narrator chosen. the voices she chose for the different character's were ridiculous. She was especially challenged using and maintaining a reasonable rendition of an Irish or English accent and her pacing was awful.

the narrator is terrible/ story not well developed
What would have made Stars of Fortune better?
the story line is not very developed. I am becoming more and more disappointed by Ms Roberts writing style. There was no development of characters like she used to do. I was barely invested in the romance story. Very disappointed. The narrator was terrible pausing at the end of each statement was so annoying. Nothing like I am used to. Dont care if I read the rest in the series and I own every book in one form or another,
Would you be willing to try another one of Saskia Maarleveld’s performances?

Would you listen to Stars of Fortune again? Why?
Yes i would, because i found the story really exciting and was really transported to the setting and also the characters and the way they were introduced and then developed.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Stars of Fortune?

What about Saskia Maarleveld’s performance did you like?

OK but felt very drawn out.
Maybe 7/10
A fantasy book about 3 woman and 3 guys who (predictably) end up together. They all have special powers which we gradually get to learn about as they open up. Overall this book, first of a trilogy, felt very drawn out. The scenes with Nerezza in them, especially the first were the best.
Among the ramblings are many, many unnecessary mentions of food! Also one of the characters in particular (Annika) comes across a bit one dimensional.
A bit different I guess. I won't be continuing the trilogy as the story is just too drawn out.
Good narration.

Entertaining very typical Nora Roberts
Entertaining, suspenseful. Decent fantasy read but Robert's is becoming formulaic like Eddings. Still love her though.

Nice relaxing story
A good listen - pretty standard romance. Amazingly narrated. Really gives each character their own flare and personality.

So much potential
Liked the idea but the plot holes drove me nuts. Instant love with no chemistry ... sigh... so many parts of the story not explored.

It's OK, a bit predictable and corny at times!
Didn't love it, didn't hate it, more like lukewarm in the middle! Sasha's character very annoying

Love the story, but the accent...
I enjoy a good Nora Roberts novel and this one does not disappoint. Unfortunately, the Irish accent for one character is annoyingly and off putting'ly poor. It sounds half Australian in places. Not bad enough that I won't listen to the rest of the trilogy though.

All of the mythical hero's you could ever want in one book
Loved listening to this first book. I found it difficult listening to the stop / start narrator but understand it needed to be that way so we didn't mixed up the characters, by the end of the book I didn't even notice. Great story, I'm about to order books 2 & 3. Bring on the great imaginings of Nora Roberts.
