Story
Not long ago, the starship Freedom was a museum ship. A relic of a bygone era. A rusty old warship converted into a tourist trap. Then the aliens attacked. Now, once more, the legendary Freedom flies to war. The war is brutal. The enemy is merciless. The rahs, vicious arachnids from deep space, crave only one thing. Human flesh. Before this terror, Earth’s fleet crumbles. Starships burn. Millions die. But the Freedom still flies. James King, her gruff old commander, still fights.

Story
It was every starship captain’s nightmare, and for Travis Miller, it was his own personal hell. He’d done everything by the book, but when the Tahni had attacked him and his crew, there was no choice but to return fire and destroy the first alien vessel humans had ever encountered. Excoriated in the press, his career in shambles, Travis is exiled to a long patrol of the outer colony worlds. Forgotten, except as a bad example...until the Tahni prove him right by declaring war on the human commonwealth.

Story
Thousands of crew are reported dead, including the ship’s captain. Reluctantly, the young XO, Galvin Quintos, will be taking command of the fleet's crippled dreadnaught, the USS Hamilton, while doing his best to bring fleet survivors back to Earth. To make matters worse, there’s a murderer running loose on board the ship, critically low fuel levels, and the Grish are back, in fast pursuit and ready to finish what they’d started. Only by sheer luck - and a good measure of cagey smarts - will Quintos be able to rise to the challenge.

Publisher's Summary
The starship Freedom is just a museum ship...until the aliens attack.
The starship Freedom was once a mighty warship. Today, she's a tourist attraction. The space wars ended long ago. The Freedom is now a flying museum; the tourists love it. The Changing of the Guard, the starfighter aerobatics, the starboard cannon salute...it's the best show in the galaxy.
James King commands the starship Freedom. He hates his job. He was a real soldier once, back when the Freedom was a real warship. He never imagined himself running a tourist trap. Right after Christmas, he plans to retire. Then, on Christmas day, the aliens attack. Horrifying aliens. Creatures of claws, fangs, and endless malice. Within hours, they devastate Earth's military. Millions die. So much for retirement.
The aliens spare the starship Freedom. After all, she's only a tourist attraction. But not to Commander King. He will get his beloved starship battle-ready. He will enter the fight. The Freedom will fly to war again!
Battlestar Galactica meets Starship Troopers in this sci-fi adventure from Daniel Arenson, the USA Today best-selling author of Earthrise.

What a disappointment
Terrible book. First half of the book is pointless background info. Filled with dumb heroes and villains. Even has a alien spider creature with mommy issues. The level of stupidity among the "heroes" took me out of the story repeatedly. And when you think this book couldn't get dumber with so many clichés, it does. Skip this book!

TOFTT!
CRAP is the best I can say. And that is an insult to fecal matter. This book is full of so many cliches, I thought it might have been written as a parody. Decent performance by Brewer, but loses it when he starts with the British accents. Not enough lipstick to get me in the same galaxy with this pig.

Escapism at its best
This is just the sort of bombastic escapism I needed! Over the top patriotism, larger than life characters who are impossibly loyal. Non-stop action, and satisfying conclusions. No, it’s not Shakespeare, but right now I don’t need Othello and his soliloquies, I need Commander King.

Over the top storyline and a bit trite in places.
Difficult to stay in the story. Suspension of disbelief fell apart many times in this story. Fights with impossible situations that and difficulties that don't exist in the mercy fight? It talks of gears and pistons in a nuclear powered starship. It makes no sense and pulls me out of the story.
I still made it through to the end

poorly read hy a narrator who you can hear breath I'm every few seconds and has the single worst English accent I have ever heard.
The story had so many plot holes in it that it looked like a block of Swiss cheese, and was so America centric that it made is unbearable to listen to. I mean "Liberty Cannons" and "the fist of freedom"? and don't even get me started on the flaws in his rail gun nonsense.

medicore
I never thought I would have to say this about a space opera, but sometimes less description is better, the author spends too much time waxxing on about character thought and feeling without really contributing anything to the story. The author makes a comment about Israel fighting off British imperialism which I find stupid as the United Kingdom was and is one of the biggest supporter of Israel and was not only founded Israel out of their middle East holding but was the Frist country to recognise Israel as a legitimate country. This is coming from an Irish man who had to grow up with a British occupation force in northern Ireland.
The narratior needs to go out and speak to member of the opposite sex and learn what a female voice sounds like as a well as what a proper British accent is.
the plot is medicore at best, the trope has been done before and a lot better, hell I have read fanfic that was of higher quality, I am just grateful that I got this for free on a whim.if I could I would rate the performance as half a star.

Don't bother. Badly thought out and written.
This book sounds as if it was written by an immature schoolboy. The introduction is quite laughably unbelievable in its error-ridden narrative - a sentry spaceship placed way out in space, built for a crew of hundreds but with only a drunken Russian and a bed-wetting American as its crew. A nuclear reactor, but a glass window, leaking steam pipes etc. Too many holes to mention in the first few wasted minutes. Not really worthy of a single star.

I really wanted to like this...
My problems with this book started with the prologue where I was almost drowned with adjectives! The unlikely nature of the only interstellar observation post being manned by a coward and an alcoholic notwithstanding, I decided to try to carry on. The first chapter was ok and I hoped I’d misjudged the book. Then we got to Buckingham Palace... Oh dear! The narrator’s grasp of British accents is truly woeful. His Royal Princess sounds like an extra from Downton Abbey rather than a teenager. The blinged up floating football is a cliche; and as for the cockney pilot.... Dick-Van-Dyke eat your heart out! It bounced me out of the story and I gave up. Such a shame!
