Carl was a regular construction foreman. Not the worst, not the best, and definitely not the thinnest. Even so, he didn't deserve that heart attack! He really didn't deserve being reborn into a dog-eat-dog world as a dragon. To be fair, it’s nice to be at the top of the food chain. Now Carl just needs to learn how magic works, which monsters are safe to eat, and why his hoard is so important to him. Dealing with change is hard enough, but he has enemy dragons incoming, hostile environments, and foes constantly trying to get bragging rights by taking down a dragon.

Becoming an exercise in frustration
While there are still some strengths to the story, it's quickly growing stale like day old bread. It's far too easy for the reader to lose track as to the "why's" the main character is moving from one principality to another. Some story elements introduced in the first novel never show up again (caravans to travel long distances because fast travel and portals between cities no longer exist). Additionally, as many times as Roman states to himself/the reader that he's now completely invested in the game world now being his only world, he continues to reference the outside world. And without the ability to return to the real world, why is Roman so set on getting revenge on Cheney? I can understand wanting to thwart him in game due to the new twists the author injects into this installment of the series, but still looking to get revenge for locking Roman into a world where he's effectively immortal and a Marty Stu to boot? It's getting old. And Zach Villa mispronouncing words is also getting old. How many books does it take for the producers to listen to Mr Villa's efforts before they tell him it's pronounced "ree-ay-gents" (along with all of the other words he mispronounces on a regular basis)? A regent is something else that has nothing to do with chemistry/alchemy.
I'll most likely continue with the next novel when it becomes available because I'm a "completionist" and I'm enjoying the plot-line involving Max and Luffy. But if there aren't some serious changes made to the story, and if Mr Villa doesn't get a "proof-reader", then I'm going to call this series quits and I'll have to go back and change my previous reviews.
If you love a fantasy setting with a Marty Stu, then you'll probably enjoy this series. If you're looking for a series with more substance to it; deeper characters with a more compelling world and story, then I'd recommend you move on to something else.

Great LitRPG.
I highly recommend this series. As with the previous books the narrator does a good job with the voices and a decent job with delivery and inflection. However he still mispronounces words (many of which are relatively common) so regularly that it makes me want to slap him. After two books you’d think that he’d stop playing “hooked on phonics” and actually bother to look up the words whose pronunciation he’s clearly only guessing at.
All I can say is, “Thank God Nick Podehl takes over as narrator for the rest of the series!”

Finally the series takes off.
Any additional comments?
In previous books the editing has been choppy, the flow from scene to scene wasn't there, and many battles were skipped so you could get to the boss battle right away. A lot of questions that should have been answered in the first book are answered now, the flow is better, and the story really picks up.

good story, still needs better audio
Really like the story and characters, sometimes the narrators characters sound too much alike and he mispronounces several words. If that sort of thing bothers you like it does me then it will take away from the overall experience like it did for me. I would still recommend reading this book, and the audible is ok if that's the only way you have time to read books currently.
Needs a new director/editor to fix the audio and catch mistakes!

A well balanced poorly narrated story.
This is the third book in the Arkon series and the story has grown on me through the novels. The narration on this novel is by far the worst performance thus far, the mixing is terrible and a sub narrator seems to dip in and out which takes you out of the story.

Bloody awesome
This series is a grate read. One of the main things is that the author doesn’t harp on with the leveling of the main char every time he levels which can get a bit tedious when it happens every chapter or two. Can’t wait for the next translation. I’m lazy so audio books are my cup of tea. Keep up with the good work and I’m looking forward to the next book. Seriously considering reading the next one but I still might wait for audible version. 😎
