Publisher's Summary

She sits against the cold concrete wall with her precious boy lying stretched out next to her, his little arm thrown over her thigh. She puts her hand on his chest to see if he is breathing, feels it gently rise and fall. He is alive.

At two a.m. one icy winter morning, the Jefferson County Police Department pick up the phone to a distressed caller, Ben Parker, reporting that his wife and child are missing.

Arriving at their beautiful family home in Baker Heights, Detective Megan Carpenter can see no sign of a struggle but quickly uncovers some alarming clues about the Parkers’ marriage....

The neighbors say Ben was abusive to his wife, Marlena, and their little boy. And when Megan checks out Ben’s holiday cabin, it’s clear he is having an affair. Ben is hiding dark secrets, but is he capable of harming his own wife and child?
Then the body of a woman is found in a secluded woods and identified as Ben’s girlfriend.

Ben is now the prime suspect, but as Megan digs deeper into his life, crossing paths with his father, Cyrus – the wealthy tycoon at the head of the family and owner of the private Parker Island – the case suddenly becomes even more complex. The truth lies on the closely guarded island, Megan is sure of it.

The case triggers disturbing childhood memories for Megan when she was on the run from her own abusive father. She can’t let anything bad happen to Marlena and her little boy, but she’s running out of time to save them.

Stillwater island

Stillwater island was entertaining, thrill seeking book. I have read or listen to this book series and thoroughly enjoyed all of them! The narrator did a great job with the characters. If there is another book I will definitely listen or read it.

Enjoyable read

This was a good book. I enjoy the Megan Carpenter series. Karen does a good job narrating. I wouldn’t say I 100% could t put it down but it’s interesting and includes a twist many won’t see coming. Def worth a credit.

Annoying main character

The main character is annoying and full of herself. She also thinks she is funny and she isn’t. I couldn’t finish this one.

Love this series

This series is great! I feel like I was more on the edge of my seat this book than the first one. The first one took awhile for me to get into. I did get kind of annoyed with how much Megan repeated her past that was already said repetitively in the first book. Which makes me think that anyone could read this 2nd book first or alone. Some parts may be a little confusing but they’re really brief so it could be brushed off. I don’t really care for the narrator deepening her voice for male characters. It’s annoying but also makes me kind of laugh because of how ridiculous she sounds. Not something that would keep me from continuing to listen though.

Yes!😄

I LOVE the Megyn Carpenter series by Gregg Olsen so much!❤️I’ve been so excited just waiting for the release of this book and it did NOT disappoint! I LOVE that Ronnie is part of the gang now too! What a GREAT PAIR they make!💞I LOVE the characters and the relationships they’ve developed with one another so much…EXCELLENT storyline yet once again by Mr. Olsen with a couple of his famous shocking twists of course🤗 The next Megyn Carpenter book cant come soon enough!❤️
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Karen Peakes as the narrator!❤️She is absolutely AMAZING❤️ I never have to question what character she is portraying. I also love the fact that she is continuing on as the narrator for this series❤️ Unfortunately I’ve had to stop listening to some great books due to a change in narrator☹️When it’s NOT for the better it’s very difficult for me personally to continue on and it’s very disheartening.

loved the plot and narrator.

Very well written and narrated. Great series. I would definitely suggest that if you love crime and strong female leads, listen to this book. I think the author is getting better with every book, not that he wasn't a great writer already.

Excellent Book

I’m enjoying these books more and more as they progress. It’s been intense from the beginning! Gregg Olsen has that way with his y. I like how the characters are developing more and more within each novel. Megan has begun to open up and let people into her life. She’s trusting other’s, which she never did before. Even her self loathing & hate appears to be lessening. The end was very interesting I’m looking forward to the next book. The narrator also does a great job.

I can't wait for his next book. I love the Megan\Riley Carpenter mysteries. It is fast paced with twists and turns. I enjoy the relationships of the characters, Ronnie and Tony. The narrator is truly awesome. I will for sure recommend this book to our book club and of course my family and friends are already reading it.

Another highly entertaining book from this author. I love Megan's dry humour and just loved the book and can't wait for more.
