The book is explained good
Stoicism by George Tanner is about the philosophical teaching of stoicism, practiced by Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. According to Tanner, stoicism is a practice of attending to moral living by using wisdom and being in tune with nature. Tanner tells the story of stoicism’s founder, Zeno of Cyprus, who due to a loss of his sailing income, turned to philosophy to explain the 180-degree change in his life. The book is explained as a historical document outlining the birth of stoicism and its practice in Western culture, while at the same time, teaching the tenants of its philosophy in clear, everyday English. If you are looking for a new way to look at the world, this book may just be the answer for you.

I enjoyed it.
Since college, I have never been a fan of philosophy. When posed with, “Why are we here?” My inevitable response has always been, “We are. Why waste time asking why? Go do something.” And I did. Recent enforced leisure time has had me re-listening the classics, and I decided to take some of my downtime to work this into my virtual pile of books to listen to. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it.

wonderful job
Philosophy can be a nerve-wracking subject, especially when it is completely new or you have no academic "training" to inform you. George Tanner does a great job of making this subject something anyone can grasp. The way in which he explains is easily understandable, and lacks the "lingo" that often turns me away from philosophical listens because it makes me feel as though it's not meant for me. He gives a thorough review of the history and development of philosophy, Stoicism's roots in Ancient Greece and Rome, and overall does a wonderful job on a complex subject. As a philosophy newbie, I'm definitely going to explore the subject a little more now.

This is an interesting listen.
This is an interesting listen that really provides a lot of detail on Stoicism, and also gives a really cool history behind the individuals that played a role in it throughout the ages. I really found it to be an easy listen, and the tidbits of historical fact mixed in made the players "come alive" to me. While the concept of Stoicism was foreign to me prior to listening to this book, I now feel like I could explain it well. Overall this is a well-explain book and the author did a wonderful job of detailing the subject without it being dry or boring. Recommended.

Nice book.
Stoicism first showed up on my radar in high school philosophy classes and entertained me with my imperfect understanding of it. I was never one to cling to philosophy as dogma, choosing one way as your way to live, but rather learning about as many theories as possible so that you can weigh them into your own personalized version of an ideology on life. When I first started listening about it, I clung to the wrong parts and as often happens, really only used my own interpretation to confirm my own beliefs. I'm glad I was able to shake off this initial interpretation, be it many years later, to get to know the philosophy and add it to the ranks of my weighed options.

I thought this book was excellent.
I thought this book was excellent and easy to listen even though I am far from an expert on the topic but have recently gained interest in it. I honestly thought I wouldn’t understand most of the book, but it truly was a great listen. George Tanner gives a thorough yet concise breakdown of what stoicism really is, how it relates back to Greek philosophy, and how the Romans began to make it their lifestyle. The book also discusses how stoicism got started when the founder lost everything he had and tried to make sense of it. Since I am kind of a psychology nerd, my favorite part of this book was when Tanner discussed how stoicism relates to other scientific fields such as psychology. His guide to stoicism teaches both history and philosophy, so I feel like I learned a lot from it. This book enlightened me to a new way of thinking, and I think you might like it, too.

I'm so glad I picked it up.
I started listening to this book mostly because I missed college, and I felt like I wanted to take a break from listening to fiction. I'm so glad I picked it up! didn't really know much about philosophy before, and stoicism seemed like as good a place as any to start. I didn't realize how many aspects of it could be applied to daily life. I've always thought that ancient Greek philosophy was something way in the past, but this book connects it to modern things like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ethics, values, and even religion. One gray thing about this book is it was really clearly explained and easy to understand, so even if this is your first real dive into philosophy (like me), it won't be over your head. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for an interesting listen!

I will be the first to admit that my eyes begin to glaze over when people talk about philosophy or when I try to listen about it. However, this book was easy to listen and understand. I wasn't sure what I would be getting out of this book, but I am always eager for more knowledge and this book was recommended to me by a new friend. This little book was a blessing to me.
This little book was a blessing to me. I'm a 66-year-old great grandmother. My job for the past 7 years is taking care of my 90-year-old Dad. This book was, at times, so pertinent that it was amazing. I couldn't care less about the author's age or political bent. That didn't come through to me in the pages of his book. I will probably listen to it over again! To me, it's that full of enlightening information that helps me stand back from each moment and grow and change. I want to be my best and this young man's book is another good place to go for encouragement!

It is a very easy listen
Being an avid listener on Stoicism, I have some 60 books about this philosophy on my Kindle. Out of all these, “The little book of Stoicism” is one of my favorites. It is a very easy listen, but most of all, I love it because it is full of very practical exercises. Doing them one by one was a total new experience for me. After all, Stoicism is about doing in the first place, isn’t it?

This book is a great introduction to stoicism.
This book is a great introduction to stoicism and puts the philosophy into simple terms. What I like most about it is that it draws from different philosophers across time and relates to other explainings.

I did really enjoyed the book.
I did really enjoyed the book. The best summary, with a clear focus, on what stoicism is. The best book to “ grab” the philosophy as a way of living...what is more important was that it show stoicism as something anyone can embrace if it according to his values or if it is willing to have a better life

I found this book to be easy to listen.
I found this book to be easy to listen and hugely helpful in my day today. I am not one to listen very much so I have to be interested and it needs to be an easy listen. Short chapters and fluid content. I highly recommend this book!
