Superficial and generic

The stoicism angle is blatantly used as a gimmick to sell this audiobook. The author gives a few Wikipedia-level lines about the history of stoicism at the start of each chapter, then proceeds to give out generic advice - seemingly orientated primarily to those that are socially anxious; barely bothering to even refer back to stoicism at all. Not only that, but he even references The Princess Bride & Salvador Dali anecdotally - shamelessly padding the audiobook with any old drivel that comes to mind, with minimal clarity and focus. The narration is dreadful with the narrator mangling Greek and Roman names when they are occasionally mentioned - Diogenes becoming ‘Dio-jeans’, Seneca - ‘Sineeka’, Epictetus become ‘Epicdodus’ & several other mispronunciations - the narrator is not even consistent with his mispronunciations, seemingly just blithely reading along. The positive reviews are suspiciously generic and fake; I would not recommend that you waste a credit on this.

GARBAGE AND FAKE REVIEWS

Judging by the grammar and construction of the stellar reviews for all this authors books I can only conclude that they are fake. It is no coincidence most of his other titles centre around “dark psychology” and “manipulation”.
This book is appalling narrated, terribly written and incoherent. I recommend any works by Great Courses here on audible - I have listened to a few so far and they are credible and intelligent. This is quite the opposite

Disappointing

unnecessary use of some colourful language, stuttering and obvious mistakes that should have been edited out. Not easy to listen to.

Mediocre

it's as if this book has been written by a computer rather than a person. Has weird sayings like glass half vacant instead of glass half full. The narrator was not to my taste and it seemed to me that he didn't quite get the topic so it just sounds off...at one point I could hear an alarm going off in the back ground. i wouldn't recommend wasting time on this.
