Publisher's Summary

Have you been feeling as though something is missing in your life? Do you often feel like your emotions get the best of you? Do you run into trouble within relationships with people at home, at work, in a business, or whatever because you feel like you need to control the situation - but the situation tends to do whatever it wants instead?

This is the way many of us live our modern lives. We feel unhappy and alone - and oftentimes, we let our emotions determine what is going to happen next.

However, this is a miserable way to live life. There will always be moments in our lives that we wish we could control but can’t, which in turn get us upset, and letting negative emotions take over can lead us to reactions that don’t fit with the situation.

Stoicism is an ancient Western philosophy whose simple, time-tested teachings of virtue, confidence, and self-control have inspired generations of scholars and spiritual practitioners from Marcus Aurelius to Nelson Mandela. One of its main tenets is that we don’t always have control over what happens to us, yet we do have control over how we react. Instead of letting something else be in control, we learn how to make ourselves the ones leading our lives.

By the end of these audiobook you will learn how to overcome self-created obstacles that are preventing you from achieving the success you desire in all aspects of life as well as harness your willpower to fill your life with meaning, even in the bleakest of situations, by applying the principles this audiobook lays out in plain English.

Here are a few of the many useful topics addressed in Stoicism

  • Four potent cardinal virtues of stoicism that you can employ to transform your life
  • Similarities found in stoicism, Christianity and other world religions
  • How to use the ideas of stoicism to bring more ease and happiness into your daily life
  • Helpful tools for managing anger, frustration, depression, and anxiety
  • Guided practices for manifesting acceptance, kindness, and mental clarity
  • How and why to develop a more minimalist approach to material possessions and media consumption
  • And much more!

Anyone who struggles with destructive emotions and control issues can start to implement the theories and cognitive techniques detailed in this audiobook. The stoic principles and practices offered are simple to understand. With perseverance you’ll soon begin to witness a greater level of harmony developing in all aspects of your life.

Even if you’ve struggled to handle difficult situations that leave you feeling out of control or failed to improve your emotional intelligence in the past, you can gain a new lease on life with the help of the tools in this volume. Regardless of prior failures, the practical concepts and techniques this audiobook offers provide you with a plethora of motivation.

For female audience

The description should say not for general audience. The examples are mostly for a female. The cover is deceptive.

Couldn’t finish - too many problems to enjoy

The length of the title should have been my first tip off that this was going to be a book written by a novice who has read a book or two on the subject and decided to give writing their own book a shot. The title needs to calm down. The title needs to be a description not a title. Second, I understand this is a book about Stoicism, of which the control of emotions is one of its biggest tenets, but does the book have to be narrated by Data from Star Trek?
Thirdly, the style of writing is a bit disjointed and sophomoric at times. There are some basic but glaring historical errors made, such as stating that both Marcus Aurelius and Seneca were Greeks, and that Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus “came up with the idea of Stoicism”. These three men were some of the most influential practitioners of Stoicism, but they did not “come up with the idea of Stoicism”, that was Zeno of Citium about 400 years prior to the reign of Marcus Aurelius. Which the author does mention in another place in the book, so this mistake is confounding. To be fair, I wasn’t able to finish this book, so take this review with a grain of salt. The aforementioned issues kept me from continuing to listen beyond Chapter 4. I’ve read many other books on stoicism which are far better than this one, which made enduring this books difficult. Also, the positive reviews of this book are a little too glowing considering the quality of the book, and they sound like the reviews of friends and family of the author.

I've really enjoyed this audio book. I appreciate the Stoic ethics. I believe I will be more successful in establishing my new habits because of the audible format compared to reading a similar book but forgetting about the ideas in a few weeks or months.

Absolutely an outstanding listen.

Absolutely an outstanding listen. I am a former mental health counselor and sadly had not heard that much of cognitive behavioral therapy parallels or originates from concepts of stoicism.

Very good introduction to Stoicism

The works of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus always provide the wonderful foundation that decorated build upon - some better than others. I gave this audio-book a try on Kindle.
