Story
Almost every religion, spiritual practice, philosophy and person grapples with fear. The most repeated phrase in the Bible is “Be not afraid.” The ancient Greeks spoke of phobos, panic and terror. It is natural to feel fear, the Stoics believed, but it cannot rule you. Courage, then, is the ability to rise above fear, to do what’s right, to do what’s needed, to do what is true. And so it rests at the heart of the works of Marcus Aurelius, Aristotle, and CS Lewis, alongside temperance, justice, and wisdom.

Do you feel as though something is missing in your life? Do you often feel like your emotions get the best of you? Do you run into trouble within relationships with people at home, at work, in a business, or whatever because you feel like you need to control the situation? Stoicism is an ancient Western philosophy whose simple, time-tested teachings of virtue, confidence, and self-control have inspired generations of scholars and spiritual practitioners...one of its main tenets is that we don’t always have control over what happens to us, yet we do have control over how we react.

Enjoyed the book.
I did really enjoyed the book. The best summary , with clear focus, on what stoicism is. The best book to “ grap” the philosofy as a way of living...what is more Important was that it show stoicism as something anyone can embrace if it according to his values or if it is willing to have a better life

Narrator isn't very good. I had read that in other reviews but didn't think id be that bothered but instead, it really is terrible. cheesy American accent, miss reads words and leaves the mistakes in, random noises. it really is a scrappy job which is a shame as I'm sure this could put people off the subject of this is the first stoic book they've came across

Poorly produced.
This is a poorly produced recording. There are multiple reading errors followed by pauses and restarts and yet oddly, these errors have not been edited out. The subject matter would have benefited from a more engaging and inspired delivery but instead gives the impression of being read straight from a book and is therefore somewhat dull. I have several Audible audio-books all of which are generally excellent but unfortunately this one is disappointing.

Any book on stoicism is great. This is no exception
it is a good listen. It has moments where it teaches you what stoicism is. those are the moments other comments say are poor editing or production. It is simply giving a core of stoicism - practice what you have learned.

Stoicism explained
A thought-provoking listen if you're interested in learning the basics, plus important nuances . This was an excellent follow-up to The Obstacle is the Way by Kevin Carol Miyake . Focusing on what we can control is a core tenet and sounds easy until we are dealt a "bad" set of cards in this game of life.
