Publisher's Summary

Alcohol is an intense, addicting poison that will slowly eat away at you.

The struggle with alcohol is one that’s seemingly never-ending.

My journey to going alcohol-free started with the day I was told that I had 48 hours left to live due to consumption.

You may know that too much of anything isn’t good for you, but there’s nothing good about alcohol. It’s a silent killer, perpetuated by society as a fun, lighthearted action. How much about alcohol do you really know?

It’s time you cut ties with alcohol for good, because it’ll save your sanity and might just save your life.

Must read if you drink alcohol!

You don't need to be an alcoholic to benefit from this book, in fact, all social drinkers should read this. In this book, the author, who was a social drinker, shared his story and turned his near death health incident into action to help other people before it's too late. I totally relate in that I like to enjoy the occassional drink, but then my body retaliates afterwards. This book really hit home the fact that I'm poisoning my body every time I drink and that social conditioning and commercials make it seem like drinking is a normal thing. Nothing can be farther from the truth! This book gave me the kick in the pants I needed so I can quit once and for all and I will be using the strategies set forth in this book to help.

Relatable!

The stories told throughout this book will resonate with many! I particularly like the point that is made about how society shouldn’t put a label on those that struggle with drinking. That really sat with me as I am one of the many that used to struggle with it. Great book, worth the listen!

If this doesn't shock you to action, nothing will.

The gut-punch of this book cannot be underestimated.

The story begins like something out of a horror movie: A man who nearly dies from the ravaging effects of alcohol, who did not even think that he had a drinking problem. A "social drinker." An "occasional drink with friends." Things that almost all of us have said, barely cognizant of the fact that we may be teetering on the edge of disaster.

After that, the book delves into solutions: Not just platitudes, lofty hopes, and encouragement, but also the complex science of alcohol's effects on the body and the devastating financial toll that drinking takes on you and your family. This is tough love at its finest: An impactful story, a no-nonsense solution, and the information we truly need to save our lives, health, and relationships. A must-read.

The narration pushed the book all the way to the fifth star. The message is urgent, but the narrator presents it in a way that calms and reassures us that we can get through this. This book can not only change lives, it can actually save them.

good guidance for important decision in your life

I am glad I do not drink alcohol for 20+ years already; this book is helpful when I want to share it with others who need something besides spiritual reasons (which was the main driver for me). The book exposes health-related consequences pretty well (just enough for those without a medical degree). It also addresses a serious problem of "social pressure," which often brings more difficulties to the equation. Guys, stay away from all addictions, be free.

Transparency Is Powerful

Valuable and judgment free advice for living alcohol free. The author courageously shares from his personal experience and is transparent about his own struggle as he challenges us to look inward. His passion to help others live healthier, sober lives shines through this book. The best advice is always followed with solutions to help solve the problem. That’s the case with this author. No circumstance is the same, but no matter where you are in your journey, something in this book will support you and encourage you or someone you love to live alcohol free.

A fabulous resource

As I have gotten older, hangovers have gotten tougher and tougher to overcome, even when I haven't had that much to drink, which has turned me to the idea of stopping my consumption of alcohol overall. This book has served as a great motivator and resource to help me on my journey!

Frankly dreadful

Really poor book, no insights at all, probably enough material to fill a 1 page essay.
Will not help you at all if you are looking to pursue a zero alcohol lifestyle.
Almost no content at all, even when talking about his own journey.

Awful

Annoyed about this purchase, no good for helping you quit. Talks about his own diagnosis so he had to give up. No techniques or anything relevant to help knock the habit.

The inspiration I needed

I just finished Dry Jan and knew I needed serious encouragement to complete my month without drinking. This audiobook gave me the insight to change my mindset and not only change my drinking habits for last month but for the rest of my life. The author gives you hard facts that many of us look beyond when we have that after-work drink or a drink after a long day. The author is empathetic, relatable, and exactly what I needed to make the changes in my life. A sincerely good listen!

Honest and practical!

I really enjoyed listening and relating to the personal story of Philip Roberts in this audiobook. He provided practical tips to overcome one of the hardest addiction battles, and knowing someone personally, that struggles with alcoholism, I felt that the importance of mindset and control really resonated with what they find difficult. I'm looking forward to applying some of the techniques suggested in this audiobook with them.

Brilliant audiobook and not just for alcoholics

I’m not an alcoholic but I do feel I drink too much. I always do dry Jan but the rest of the year, I do drink a few days a week and a lot of it is cultural. Being British, drinking is a huge part of our culture as a social event. It’s the one drug that if you don’t do it, you are the odd one. This audiobook has helped to make me realise how ludicrous that concept is. The facts about liver disease are enough to make you want to stop. It is the start of my journey for sure but I feel like I’ve turned a corner in my way of thinking about alcohol. I like how the narrator is also British as I found it easy to relate to.

Worth a listen

This book provided great information on something I think most of us overlook. A lot of us may be addicted and not even realize it, you don't have to be a blackout drunk to be addicted. The effects on your body and overall health take a hit with poor drinking habits. After listening to this I am definitely considering going with the zero alcohol revolution, honestly drinking has lost it's luster anyways and you need to get over what others think of you not drinking. Worth a listen for sure!

Inspiring!

In May 2020, I found myself buying bottles of wine due to the lockdown. Months later, I realised I had developed a habit of reaching for a glass of wine every evening.
In 2021, I changed my mindset and started new Heath habits such as meditation, and reduced my alcohol intake.
This book is inspiring and helped me understand that I have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, and even drinking in moderation, alcohol can harm our health.

Thank you, Philip.

Inspiring text for those in the grips of alcohol

I particularly like the way the author shared his vulnerability. It is amazing how well he explained the dynamics of the effects of drinking too much.

The material is factual but also inspirational and I have no doubt that this book will help those individuals who find themselves addicted to alcohol.
