Publisher's Summary
Includes audio from original interview with Lale Sokolov.
The first nonfiction book from the author of international best-selling novels The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka's Journey.
Stories are what connect us and remind us that hope is always possible. (Heather Morris)
In Stories of Hope, Heather Morris will explore the art of listening - a skill she employed when she first met Lale Sokolov, the Tattooist at Auschwitz. It was her ability to listen that led Lale to entrust Heather with his story, which she told as the novel The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Now she shares her story of how she learned to listen.
Heather grew up on a farm in rural New Zealand. On her way back across the paddocks from school, she would visit her great-grandfather and listen to his experiences of war - stories he told only Heather. From a very young age, she learned that people would share their most sacred and intimate stories with her, if she stopped and listened to them. Stories of Hope will examine and explore Heather's journey, in the form of a series of tales of the remarkable people she has met, the extraordinary stories they have shared with her, and the lessons they hold for us all.

not what I expected.
I expected to hear real stories of hope, instead this was more of a textbook on listening to stories. Very useful if your not a counsellor. This was dispersed within authors own story and reference to Lali.

Just listen
This is beautifully written. I can not explain how Heather Morris’s other books have Meade me feel but to listen to this in her own words hit a spot I never thought would. Thank you for writing this.

too repetitive, although I will read her book, I didn't complete this one as it repeated itself far too much.

Superb accompaniment to her ‘fictional’ titles
This is a stunning accompaniment to her ‘fictional’ material that I have also read.
It is amazing to hear the story behind the story. This was an extremely welcome addition to the novels.
I would definitely recommend.

A powerful tool for anyone interested in history
I have gained so much from listening to this book. As a writer and oral historian myself this was good to hear of some one else's process. Thank you Heather for being so open and sharing your experience which is just as powerful as the final stories written. I'm now going to read all of your books with a deeper understanding.
