Publisher's Summary

They thought they could get away with murder, but then Keeler showed up.

Ex-Special Forces operator Tom Keeler is a rambling man. He’s just passing through the town of Alencourt, France, and in less than an hour, someone tries to kill him. Nice place, nice try. But it’s a case of mistaken identity, and they picked the wrong guy. The French police can’t be trusted, except for the beautiful Cecile Nazari. She finds out fast that keeping up with Keeler is a dangerous occupation. Because someone’s preying on the weak and unprotected. Someone murderous. But they never counted on coming up against a guy like Keeler.

A Jack Reacher look-a-like

This reminds me so much of the first JR novel, "Killing Floor". There are many similar plot and character points. It's not bad, it just doesn't develop the characters as fully as Lee Child did. The narrator falls into a sing-song pattern occasionally; perhaps due to the short sentences and terse narrative of the book. He does well with the women's voices, and, not knowing otherwise, his French pronunciation sounded good to me.

And, really, you know, we can't have too many Jack Reacher-type books.

Slow paced, poor plot, bad narration.

The story never got going. Nothing happened that made any sense. The MC was the stereotypical American Special Forces vet. Disconnected, antisocial, have sex with any willing partner, and is completely unimpacted by the violence he inflects on others. He views himself as an avenging angle, while he is neither an angle, nor avenging. The violence was unecessary, and unrealistic in almost every case. The MC takes on multiple bad guys at once and always comes out on top with minimal physical damage to himself. He kills without reason, and gives no sign his murders had any emotional impact on him at all. Put that with the fact he suffered no bad consequences for any of it. He was not an MC I could pull for.Unlikeable in every way.

If all that wasn't bad enouth, the narration was much like listening to verbal water torture. He sounded like a male California Valley Girl from the 80;s with an anoying uptick at the end of every sentence. His cadence never changed. Good narration enhances a story, this one crushed anything you might find enjoyable.

I will not be buyng another book by this author, or listening to any other work rendred by this narrator.

Horrible

The reading of this story was so poor with inflections in all the wrong places it was impossible to finish listening

The narrator ruined it

It might be a good book. I couldn’t finish. At first I thought the narrator was an automated voice, but no. There was this strange cadence to his reading. Then it reminded me of Jack Webb from Dragnet as if he was reading a grocery or to do list. But with a voice that sounded put out at the same time. The inflection of his voice at the end of sentences became annoying. I found myself listening less to the story but rather predicting in my head when he was going read the sentence with that strange inflection at the end. But I will say his voice when he was reading as a female was tolerable.

Poor copycat version of Jack Reacher series

This is Lee Child by numbers. Cynical ex-army vet, just retired, with intent to wander aimlessly, travelling very light, gets attacked and easily fights off three knife-wielding men before the end of the first chapter. He's having sex with a lusty woman police officer a couple of chapters later. His mother was French. Hmmm... see a pattern here? Reacher's mother was French too. Except it's not written as well as Lee Child used to write. It lacks pace, plot or, crucially, jeopardy. I didn't like or care about any of the characters. Jeff Harding did his best. But it was dull, dull, dull. I gave up in the end.

Jack Reacher In WitPro

It’s hard to not think of Jack Reacher there’s so many similarities with Tom Keeller it’s almost plagiarism, In saying that I enjoyed the story and after the last two Reacher books that were so poor I’ll take Tom Keeller and check out the next two books

It's as good as Reacher

I have read every Jack Reacher. I loved them. this is just as good, helped by the reader, who also read Reacher, and uses the same way of reading it. But for the name of the leading man, it could welk have been Reacher. it's a bit of a slow start, so are some Reacher's, I want more.

Reacher Carbon Copy

Really enjoyable story,If you like Jack Reacher this is a blatant rip off of that series even down to the fact they're using the same narrator.Definitely worth a listen if you're missing your Jack Reacher fix.

Airforce Reacher!

Did get a bit confused. Geoff reads it just like Reacher and I kept imagining Reacher but that he is not! Having said that that narration was good, as always and the story not too shabby. Kept me happy on my dog walks and I will get the others too.
Reacher clone but passable clone!

Jack Reacher is alive elsewhere!

I am not sure whether Lee Child will be angry or flattered by Mr Lively’s efforts. It is absolutely Jack Reacher under another name - made even more like by being read by the inimitable Jeff Harding just like Reacher. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Just like Reacher it’s far fetched violent and implausible but a good yarn. Ideal for long boring holiday flights. More power to you Mr Lively I’ve bought all your others for my holiday.

Copycat Reacher - Still Great

Even though I had read the reviews I was still surprised at the echoes of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher - probably closer to the earlier books than the later ones.
I love Jeff Harding as a narrator but I’m unsure if using him was a bit much as I kept thinking Reacher not Keeler. Nonetheless it was a good story and if you enjoy Reacher novels you’ll enjoy this one.
I’m going to get the next one and see if I can get over my Reacher bias.

New & different Reacher

Enjoyed the book very much, interesting story. Lots of shooting and death though.
Main character another reacher but a bit more violent.
Not sure about the narrator, initially found him awful but grew into him as story progresses.
