Publisher's Summary
With her unusual qualifications, a doctorate in art history and the body of a movie goddess, Vicky is well equipped for getting the information she needs from anyone, particularly the older men who typically deal in antiques. But in #37 on the Street of the Five Moons, Vicky meets a dangerously exciting young Englishman, a man whose scruples are as questionable as his intelligence is keen.
Read by Barbara Rosenblat with the acclaimed talent that has made her Elizabeth Peters' only choice to read the Vicky Bliss series, Street of the Five Moons will delight the listener with a full measure of witty repartee and memorable characters.

Much better than the first Vicky Bliss
I started on this second book in the Vicky Bliss series rather uneasy. I wasn't sure if I really didn't care for the first book, or if it was just the way it was read that made me feel so down about it.
But I do love Elizabeth Peters Amelia Peabody series and figued I would try Vicky again with Ms. Rosenblat reading.
I am so glad I did. The story was very good, maybe even too short. I found myself just loving "John" and the ending was great.
It was FUN, it was interesting and it was READ REALLY WELL!
I recommend it to anyone who loves Elizabeth Peters. And there is enough background in it that you can just skip the first book in the series and start with this one. I wish I had done that.

Peters and Rosenblat - an unbeatable combo
I am a dyed-in-the wool Amelia Peabody fan and have listened to Barbara's narration of all of that series over and over but this series comes off almost as well. In fact, although I own all of these titles in hardcopy, I much prefer the audio version. Rosenblat "becomes" the characters. You can't go wrong with this series for pure, unadulterated fun. I hate it when each book ends. Until Rosenblatt also narrates the Jacqueline Kirby books, I guess I'll just have to listen to all of these again - and again - and again.

Beautiful Heroine Pursues Evil Art Forgers!
Vicky Bliss returns here in her second delightful caper -- this time in Rome, chasing down a ring of art-forgers. Previous reviewers who complained about the silliness of the Vicky Bliss series are missing the point ... or maybe lost their senses of humor. Elizabeth Peters -- the pen name for brilliant scholar Barbara Mertz -- is intentionally spoofing the romance/cliffhanger genre. Impossible, hairs-breadth escapes from certain death abound, as do hunky heroes with whom our beautiful heroine may engage in scintillating repartee, and nefarious villains hatching dastardly plots. Get it? Please don't try to take these novels seriously. Peters clearly had fun writing them, and wants us to have fun listening to them. Barbara Rosenblat provides exactly the right voices and accents to make that happen. If you are looking for a serious, educational, or edifying audiobook, skip the Vicky Bliss series. But if you want some light-hearted fun: Vicky Bliss, at your service. I would suggest starting with the first novel in the series, "Borrower of the Night," just to get the back-story, although you don't absolutely need to do so to enjoy "Street of the Five Moons." Just remember to bring your sense of humor.

More fun read out loud
I already loved this book, already love Elizabeth Peters, and I’ve come to enjoy Ms. Rosenblat. I’ll admit, the first book I bridled at her ‘voice’ for Amelia Peabody. But I stuck it out and by the end I was in love with Barbara as well (esp her vocalizations of Emerson’s variety of harumphs.)
I’ve read other folks stating that they are not in love with her narration. I beg to differ and suggest that being able to let go of your own idea of what a beloved character sounds like is okay. Anyway she had me by the end of Crocodile on a Sandbank.
Due to circumstances beyond my control I can no longer read- and I am one of those people who reads books over and over. Having the resource of Audible is a lifesaver.
I recently finished listening to all the Amelia Peabody books except the last one- given the circumstances of its creation. I decided to revisit the Vicky Bliss series. I know that I love these books almost as much as the other series- but I wondered if Barbara’s narration would carry over.
I started with Laughter of Dead Kings but failed to do a real review for that one- but this covers both. Not sure if the Audible folks can put this on that book too- if you can that would be great. If not, alas.
Anyway, since I’ve made it clear that these are both series I love, Elizabeth Peters makes magic with her blending of a history lesson, remarkable characters, and a tip of the hat to Rider Haggard and the other authors of early romance/mystery mashups, this review is just for the narrator.
Barbara brings each character to life. She has superior comic timing and allows the prose to sing. I’ve read all these books often enough to have them committed to memory, and yet she always manages to surprise me with how well she presents the story.
You cannot go wrong with an Elizabeth Peters book read by Barbara Rosenblat. Well done.

Nice cozy listen
I loved the Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody series so much, it took me a while to feel I could listen to this one and not compare the two. They really can’t be compared, the Amelia books are reflective of the stronger writer and storyteller Peters would become. The Vicky books are Peter’s earlier attempts. They are still very charming and I highly recommend them.
