Publisher's Summary

"A teacher is never a giver of truth - he is a guide, a pointer to the truth that each student must find for himself. A good teacher is merely a catalyst." (Bruce Lee)

Within the chapters of Striking Thoughts, you will find the secrets of Bruce Lee's incredible success - as an actor, martial artist, and inspiration to the world. Consisting of eight sections, Striking Thoughts covers 72 topics and 825 aphorisms - from spirituality to personal liberation and from family life to filmmaking - all of which Bruce lived by.

His ideas helped energize his life and career and made it possible for him to live a happy and assured life, overcoming challenging obstacles with seeming ease. They also inspired his family, friends, students, and colleagues to achieve success in their own lives, and this personal collection will help you in your journey, too.

The sections include:

  • On First Principles - life, existence, time, and death
  • On Being Human - the mind, happiness, fear, and dreams
  • On Matters of Existence - health, love, marriage, raising children, ethics, racism, and adversity
  • On Achievement - work, goals, faith, success, money, and fame
  • On Art and Artists - art, filmmaking, and acting
  • On Personal Liberation - conditioning, Zen Buddhism, meditation, and freedom
  • On the Process of Becoming - self-actualization, self-help, self-expression, and growth
  • On Ultimate (Final) Principles - yin-yang, totality, Tao, and the truth

Great book, awful audio book

Firstly, I'm a lifelong fan of Bruce Lee. I own the softcover book and wanted to have the audible for drives.

The only negative I have of this audio book (which unfortunately is a HARD deal breaker) is the narrator.

In the introduction, he has a pleasant voice. Once you get into the chapters, suddenly his cadence changes into an awful pseudo Bruce Lee impression. It's annoying enough to be turned off immediately.

exceeded my expectations

Bruce brings the Taoist Way into our everyday living and thinking. This goes beyond the Martial Art he created allowing us into Bruce's mind mixing Taoist truth with 20th century living. For me personally, it strengthened my mind and awakened my spirit. I am grateful.

Only 1 star cause 0 isn’t an option

The content itself I’m sure is great but this reader trying to adopt some Bruce Lee accent is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. I made it past the intro then the accent started I just can’t bring myself to listen to it. Frankly, I find it insulting and this guy should probably do something else with his life.

Not what I thought it would be

This book is more of sayings and ways to think. I expected a story but it is one saying after anothef.

I was hoping for more - the audio flow was bad

I grew up on Bruce Lee. I’ve been studying life, psychology, the Tao, Buddhism, zen, and mindfulness for many years (nearly a decade). I was excited when I found this book as it seemed to align with many of my passions.

This book had mad bad reviews and I bought it anyhow. I’d review the print version to see if the wisdom is valuable and you could cut the fluff. The audiobook seemed to have content repeated multiple times for each chapter which played like this was the first time the producers ever heard an audiobook and they were making up how to do it as they recorded it. It seems they avoided best practices and it was difficult to keep listening. I almost quit a dozen times over months. I keep going, but it was painful and NOT enlightening. Because of my struggles to get through things, I am not sure there were any nuggets of wisdom I am taking away as I do in typical books I read. I often get several solid ideas from books like this.

I’d recommend trying this book in it’s print version instead of listening to this audiobook. As a matter of fact, I’d recommend getting it from the library instead of buying it and if reading the physical book feels good from the library, then buy it.

Narrator impersonates Bruce Lee while reading.....

just be yourself. the introduction is great, and as soon as Chapter 1 starts, the Bruce Lee impersonation becomes unbearable. how annoyingly distracting.

it does not become easier to interpret the messages of Bruce Lee if you simply mimic his accent and cantonense...

disappointing. can't complete due to annoyance.

moving insightful beautiful

loved every minute. great reading performance. may your cup never stop pouring Bruce Lee!
a great follow up would be a discussion of many phrases with other masters, and disciples of Gung Fu. this is a book of proverbs by a special soul, thank God he had at least 32 years on this earth.
the most impactful book I have read in a long time. a huge kudos to the brains and effort behind this production. peace, love and brotherhood, is the motto of Bruce Lee in the book. Amen.

Narrator sounds just like Bruce Lee!

I absoloutely loved how the narrator has a very similar voice to Bruce, however he didn't seem very passionate while reading the book and read some words twice wich was a bit annoying. I'm just happy this book was turned into an audiobook, you learn a lot from the mind of Bruce Lee, very pleased.
