Publisher's Summary
Three years after the showdown with Finch razed their hometown of Freepoint and changed their lives forever, Phillip and the rest of The Ables gang find another school year interrupted by a growing threat.
Relations with the government have never been more strained and the political rhetoric has shifted to a more hostile tone when discussing those with special abilities. A new branch of Homeland Security has been empowered to investigate custodial acts of heroism and even detain suspects indefinitely. While juggling his leadership responsibilities over the dozens of Ables members, a new crush, and a growing anxiety problem....
Phillip will have to decide how much of The Ables' time will be spent training for simulation games and how much will be spent stepping into the real-world crime-fighting holes created by the custodians that have disappeared - presumed to be imprisoned or worse. Confronted with a mysterious new villain wielding a previously unknown power, Phillip, Bentley, and Henry will be forced to stretch their abilities and their bonds further than ever before.

Not as good as Book 1
First the narrator was alright however, but it was a step down from the Ables. The book has some good ideas, however some parts of the book had me asking why are they doing this..where is everyone else..and the ending just lost me. People exterm things when there were other options.

Needs work, but I still liked it
Mosty to reviews for this one are right. Ables book 1 was clear and well thought out, while this one had a half baked plot and a super quick ending. I felt like there was a framework for a great sequel but Jeremy ran out of time. This book is considerably shorter than the first one and it shows, most of the story centered around Philip being forced to grow older than his 15 years and had some very thought-provoking literation...but the world was on fire at the time and it seemed misplaced. He was dealing with major anxiety and PTSD but they don't really touch on why that is, sure he had gone through a lot of trauma in the first book but usually panic attacks can be traced back to a particular event and I would have liked more detail shed on it. It also popped up in plot convenient ways which are a bit annoying. I also felt that the relationship he has with a teleporter named Emiline while his mother was a teleporter named Emily was a bit lazy. They are actually a cute couple and I loved all their interactions but, I would have liked a different name at least.
Also, who is this villain? She is hardly introduced and we had no time to connect with her motives and some important people were just written off. She had so much potential and her power was really cool! Sadly, she was 5 steps ahead until the last minute when she was just, beaten. No fancy monologue, no identity reveal (it was obvious who the villain was) and no real consequences of her actions.
What happened to James? Philip refuses to talk about it in the one and I am left frustrated by a character being written out and no explanation why.
Why were the events of the last book barely touched on when it's obvious the bad guy is still out there? Some of the chapters ended with the group leaving for a mission and beginning with them already in danger...like what happened? So many details and questions!
I loved the new characters and how Philip and Patrick's relationship got some spotlight. Very well done.
I don't know if Jeremy was getting an endorsement deal for his local Jack's Pizza, but he mentions this place way, way, WAYYYYYYYY TOO MUCH. Almost every chapter is them eating at Jacks, talking about Jacks, smelling something that reminds them of Jacks and it was driving me crazy. I swear it was mentioned at least once per chapter and it drove me nuts. I'm fine with people having a hangout spot but seriously,
I like this series and think it has amazing potential. I really hope to see an improvement with the next volume.

Disappointing! Makes no sense.
The story has a decent premise but the execution make no sense. The people in the story don't react logically and the background characters do the same. The villain had several chances to "win" but didn't for some unknown reason.I enjoyed the first book. This story leaves so many dangling plot threads that it distracts from the overall story. Every cliche the CinemaSins rags on in their videos is present or accounted for in this mess of a story. Definitely needed some better editors and producers for this.

Second one missed the charm.
Far less interesting with less of a story, charm & continuity to the first book of the series, which was brilliantly written & realized. What plot there was didn't keep my attention, let alone remember the different characters' names & their individual abilities, so that I'd care about what was happening to them.

What happened?
I am questioning if this was written by the same author. I mean I know it is but a lot of the good stuff from the 1st story is just poofed. And the writing didn't make sense to me in a lot of places, having nothing to do with motivations and more towards pacing and being repetitive.

Lacking
This is a book that felt as though it is only half of a complete story.
The political side of the story(i.e. the main conflict) is underdeveloped with some vague and stereotypical dialogue thrown about to give some setting to the story, while none of it is very well explored.
The main villain is underdeveloped, only mentioned a few times and having one small chapter dedicated to establishing them as a threat.
The main character mentions having some long-lasting mental scars stemming from the events of the previous book, something that becomes present roughly halfway through the story and flares up occasionally.
The climax of the story is half-cocked as character revelations come about suddenly and without provocation. Things seem as though they just happen without any real rationale or reason.
To put almost all of the events of the story in one blanket criticism. The book explains *how* things happen, but without explaining *why* beyond the simple answer of "Power".
Why are custodians under such scrutiny to the point where internment camps are seen as a viable option?
Why does the main villain want to perform their master plan?
Why is one specific main character such an integral part of the villain's plan, even though he is hardly in the story?
It feels as though there was supposed to be more to the story, but it had to be cut to meet a deadline, which is a shame.

Where is James?
What happened to James? It seems he is fine at the end of book 1, but then I cannot see why he is not there at the beginning of book 2. Did I miss something?
The book is entertaining, but just slower and more sad. There was more fun had in the first book, and I enjoyed that.

Disappointment
I had high expectations. This was the book that I waited for so much. Story had so much going for it but it failed to deliver. it felt like half of the book was missing. many times a had to check if I had skipped a part because the story jumped forward so much. The first book was amazing, this was avarage fanfiction.
This feels like a movie script more than a book. It had no substance. If you just filled out 100 or so more pages this would be much better. even if those pages had been full of filler it still would have made the pacing and the tone more consistant.
The main characters were idiot teens but thats okey, they were teenagers.
I didn't mind the reader unlike many others seemed to.
I am sorry Jeremy.

Story
Val and Julie just want what’s best for their kids, David and Sophie. So when teenage son David comes home one day asking for a Pilot, a new brain implant to help with school, they reluctantly agree. This is the future, after all. Soon, Julie feels mounting pressure at work to get a Pilot to keep pace with her colleagues, leaving Val and Sophie part of the shrinking minority of people without the device. Before long, the implications are clear for the family and society: Get a Pilot or get left behind. With government subsidies and no downside, why would anyone refuse?

Story
Charlie and his friends enter the God Game, a video game run by underground hackers and controlled by a mysterious AI that believes it’s God. Through their phone screens and high-tech glasses, the teens’ realities blur with a virtual world of creeping vines, smoldering torches, runes, glyphs, gods, and mythical creatures. When they accomplish a mission, the game rewards them with expensive tech, revenge on high-school tormentors, and cash flowing from ATMs. Slaying a hydra and drawing a bloody pentagram as payment to a Greek god seem harmless at first. Fun even.

Story
My name is Sawyer William Vincent - I know, it sounds like three first names - but most people know me as the Red Raptor. Well, technically no one knows I'm the Red Raptor, he's just a bit more popular. Wow. Enough about my name. Let me start over. I’m a superhero - the legendary Black Harrier’s partner. Not sidekick. I don't care if I'm still in high school. We work together to bring down the city's most dangerous villains. When the Black Harrier gets a mysterious note, then goes missing in New York City, things are pretty much left up to me. But don’t worry...I’ve got this.
