Publisher's Summary

Escape the cold winter nights with Sunday Times Top Five best seller Heidi Swain's Summer at Skylark Farm!

Amber is a city girl at heart. So when her boyfriend Jake suggests they move to the countryside to help out at his family farm, she doesn't quite know how to react. But work has been hectic and she needs a break so she decides to grasp the opportunity and make the best of it.

Dreaming of organic orchards, paddling in streams and frolicking in fields, Amber packs up her things and moves to Skylark Farm. But life is not quite how she imagined - it's cold and dirty and the farm buildings are dilapidated and crumbling.

But Amber is determined to make the best of it and throws herself into farm life. But can she really fit in here? And can she and Jake stay together when they are so different?

A story of love in the countryside from the Sunday Times best-selling author of the The Cherry Tree Café and Sleigh Rides and Silver Bells at the Christmas Fair.

Could have been so much better if only ...

Jake hadn't been such a b*tthead, the ridiculous big misunderstanding that tried to make Amber the one in the wrong, and the true villains of the story just walking away without even a slap on the wrist.
I simply can't say enough about what an unlikable man Jake was from beginning to end. Ugh!
The premise of the story and the details of the farm were wonderful; such a shame it was wasted - could've left everyone out except Amber, Aunt Annie, and maybe Jessica.

Great read - but read Cherry Tree Cafe first

Really lovely easy listen - characters are true to the variety of people one finds in everyday life and the problems of jealousy, hard times and finding one's true vocation.
Make sure you read Cherry Tree Cafe first. Summer at Skylark Farm is the second book of the Wynbridge Series by Heidi Swain but Audible do not have them marked as a series so I did not read them in the correct order!

Very enjoyable

Lovely summer story taking you right into the heart of country living and away from the stress of city living. As always, a predictable plot (which makes it more relaxing and enjoyable for me!) and beautifully narrated by Karen Cass who always does an excellent job.
I would like to go to Skylark Farm for my next holiday!........

Unable to finish this

Sadly, the narrator's voice just got on my nerves too much. I do wish people would just READ the book and not try to do weird accents for all the characters.
The plot is also pretty bland, so I gave up.

harmless listen

This is the kind of listen for when you don't want to have to worry about anything or anyone. It sends me to sleep on a regular basis. A gentle, uncomplicated listen. A beach listening book... if you can remeber gouing to the beach...before COVID 19

Nostalgic getaway

Easy, rural idyll listening that won’t challenge your brain but will warm your heart . Sometimes just what’s required.

Disappointing

This is the second book I've had by this author, and I found it not as good as the first one. It was almost impossible to believe in Skylark Farm as a real working business, and the plot was all too predictable. The characters are okay, although not helped by the narrator, who gives several of them a sort of Chelsea drawl which is even more grating when the story is supposed to be set in rural East Anglia. If you are looking for an undemanding light romance, then this may well be for you, but personally I found it just far too easy to guess what would happen next.

It's Very Sweet

It starts off a little slow where not a huge amount really happens but gradually if you stick with it, it becomes great. A feel good book with a happy ending.

Sweet couple. Slow plot.

What I liked:
- The voice/reading performance of the voice actor was pleasant to listen to even though she couldn't deliver different enough voices for the other characters.
- An escape to the country side is exactly what I ordered.
- The last 35% of the book was engaging and it finally brought everything together.
- Amber and Jake are a sweet couple and both have their flaws. I liked that they disagreed on some things but they're still a perfect match.

What I didn't like:
- Slow plot. Even though things were happening in the story I still felt bored. Perhaps it was the pacing that needed tweaking. It felt a bit like a waiting game.
- The voice actor didn't give us different voices (although some attempt was made). Unless you heard the name of the character in the scene it was difficult to tell which character was speaking.
- I got bored halfway through and struggled to finish the book. So I sped up the reading to 1.5x speed and that helped a lot.
- The ending. I feel like there weren't any consequences for the villain of the story. And the fallout of the big fight was overdramatic considering the circumstances.

Lovely

Simply a nice story. Nothing exciting happens until the very end, but it's lovely to experience the change from city to the country alongside Amber.
