Publisher's Summary

Is a change as good as a rest?

When married couple Fern and Aiden have a windfall, their reactions could not be more different. While Fern is content to pay off their mortgage and build a nest egg before starting a family, her husband is set on travelling the world.

Fern’s not much of a backpacker so, before she knows it, the idea of a ‘marriage gap year’ takes shape. And, as Aiden heads off to the wilds of Australia, Fern chooses the more restful Provence for her year out.

Set amidst the glorious French scenery, Château de Vernon offers a retreat from the hustle and bustle of normal life, and Fern agrees to help out in return for painting lessons from the owner – renowned, but rather troubled, painter Nico.

As their year unfolds in very different ways, will the time apart transform their marriage, or will it drive Fern and Aiden even further apart?

Let Lucy Coleman whisk you off on a heart-warming, sun-drenched and magical French adventure.

Summer in Provence

Summer in Provence, Purchased this based on sample. I started to listen to it. It was nothing like the sample and I fell asleep listening to it. Tried again just not my kind of book. I thought it would be about Provence but does not seem like it to me. I am returning it.

Cute book that handled darker topics with grace

Why don’t all books end with a nice little chapter that wraps up all the loose ends and let’s you know what happens to each character?! I very much appreciated that. Good book.

Finding The Inner You

Th craftsmanship of the writing is note worthy. I think she skillfully draws the reader into the inner existence of each character. I could identify with the main character’s revelations of her hidden talents; so often people tend to ignore inner wants, urgings and desires for fulfillment. This book is appropriate for young adult women as well as adults.

Misleading Title

The title should have been “A Year in an Artists Colony.” Provence is pretty much invisible, and the plot is predictable in an “Eat, Love, Pray“ kind of way. All the main characters are English or Spanish. If you hope to be brought to Provence by this book, as I had, you’d be sorely disappointed.

Hmmm

Frustrating. She had her head in the sand for 8 months +. Listening to that was difficult. It’s hard to root for the wounded puppy who chooses denial. And then refusing to get married is selfish & ridiculous, as bad as Europeans have discussed/treated “bastards” historically.

meh not for me

I felt it had potential and I did not mind the narrator in the sample. Once I downloaded and about 2 hours in I had my doubts, I hung in there a bit longer and i could not finish. It was not a good fit for me.

Dreadful

Chosen for some escapism - disappointed, made it to chapter 8 couldn’t take a anymore. Every cliche imaginable ! The almost thirties sound nearer to 50 !!
Everything is over explained!
Terrible narration, the most excruciating ‘voices’ for different characters. Don’t waste your credit! Wish I’d chosen a Jo Thomas novel 🙄

Disappointing

I haven't read any of Lucy Coleman's other books, but tried this as it was free on Audible.

The writing was quite jarring, with everything being long-winded and overly explained. There was also something really unnatural about the dialogue: the characters are supposed to be in their late 20s, but they speak as if they're in their dotage and from another era! What 20-something in this day and age would say to her husband, on his backpacking adventure down under, "This incident proves that you must be vigilant at all times." Seriously, who talks like that?! It felt archaic.

I felt no connection or sympathy for any of the characters and the narrator's voices grated after a while, especially the teenage girl with her annoying upward inflection at the end of every single sentence...

Sadly, I gave up halfway through.

The romance of Provence

Well constructed story that was easy to follow and drew you in from the start. Characterisation was spot on and you couldn’t help liking them all
Lucy Scott’s reading of it is first class please read some more Lucy

I go to france every year and this really encapsulates the romance of provence

BEAUTIFUL 😊 👏

Really enjoyed listening to this book it was a lovely story beautifully written and narrated.

Definitely one to keep in my Audio Library. I really do wish that all similar books ended like this.

After getting to know all the characters it was awesome hearing what happened to them at the end.

Thank you for the enjoyment that it gave to me, 😚 👍 👏

Overall, Quite annoying

I don’t want to be rude and I did listen to the end so there was something in story that encouraged me to continue.
Towards the end I found myself expressing out loud my disbelief in the way the main character behaved. Rather than a woman in her late 20s, she acted much older-and not in a good way! I felt like shouting at her to let loose a little, she was so up tight. Her husband Aiden suggested a gap year and I think he did the best thing getting on a plane far away! At least he has something about him.
I found it unbelievable that such a pious and frankly boring personality could not only be so creative and artistic, but could capture the eye of the gorgeous and talented Nico within a day of meeting him. Her in depth analysis of her fellows was exhaustive and some of the scenes were frankly laughable.
Sorry, just being honest.

A beautiful and heartwarming story 😁👍❤️

This is my second listen by this author and I’m very happy with both. I noticed there were some not so good reviews and comments, saying it was boring and badly narrated…..I know it’s all personal opinion, but I think that’s because this book is not what most people expect. Firstly, the narrator has a lovely voice, is clear and well spoken and her accents are good too. I am in a position to judge as I’ve listened to lots of books on here and hers has to be one of the best…..I have encountered some absolutely nauseating shockers

Hearts lost or just confused

this story pulled me in, as a new artist myself ,as well as intuitive the story is yet another nudge from spirit to follow your dreams. Another great story about life love and unknown paths.

Didn't enjoy at all.

Insipid characters, dull plot, after the first few chapters I skipped to almost the end to see if it ended as I predicted it would.

I had to give up INSIPID

Omg ! I can’t do anymore , the woman is pathetic. Also the writer has made Australia sound like a back water . There are heaps of towns between Cooper Pedy and Adelaide.
