Story
Felix would like nothing more than to take a vacation. A long one. One where he didn’t have to wake up every morning and worry over casualty lists for the day. Ever since he and the Legion had been forced to flee their headquarters four years previous, nothing had gone quite right. In fact, Felix and the Legion have been locked in a shadow war with enemies unknown. Ones with magic that could carve through their technology easily.

Reports to write, forms to fill, coffee to drink, leads to run down. Gus’s life was a tedium and boredom he’d grown comfortable with. One that he sought out after he’d come back from his tour of duty. A detective in the paranormal investigations department. A job he could work day in and day out in relative peace. One cold and forgotten cup of coffee at a time. It was an environment that made some sense to him. At least in comparison to civilian life where almost nothing did. On top of that, it gave him a chance to hide what he was from the rest of the world.

Ryker only has one goal in his life right now: Turn a certain adventuring guild into a flaming wreck while dancing merrily through the smoldering ruins. All for the chance to get back at a handful of people. It isn’t as if they didn’t deserve it either. They had driven him from his home. Chased him physically from the very guild house itself. Simply because he wasn’t as strong as they expected him to be. As strong as he’d expected himself to be. He’d returned the next day and left with something he’d hidden away and told no one about when he found it in one of his few Dungeon Dives.

Warner spent his days like almost anyone else. He got up, went to work, answered phone calls in a call center, went home, spent time with his daughter, and went to sleep. Only to repeat the pattern over and over and over. Life was as mundane as anyone could ever fear it to be. Today was the day that all that would change. On this day, his daughter Maya would be nearly fatally injured, plunging Warner into a world of paranormal creatures, monsters, and magic he’d never known existed. The only consolation is that he discovers he’s not quite human, either.

Publisher's Summary
In a world full of super powers, Felix had a pretty crappy one.
After learning to harness his ability to modify any item he owns, he now runs a corporation that is rapidly expanding - Legion. After tangling with the local Heroes guild they’ve finally settled into a semblance of stability.
Sounds great on paper. Run your company, make money, be your own boss, settle down. Except that with running a business, comes an inordinate amount of responsibilities. Like making sure everything keeps running and your people are paid.
Worrying about the longevity of his company, Felix begins to expand into other cities. So they’ve packed up the car, put in all the requisite forms, gotten the approvals, and set out to start Legion up in a new city.
The problem, though, is the local government had no idea who they were selling permits to. Approving forms for. To Felix and Legion.
And now they’re about to find out.

Got better
I liked the first book, hit on lit rpg, hinted at harem, but concentrated on building characters, and scraping out a safe place. I liked how doing those things wasn't always pretty and how that introduced character conflicts.
The second book builds on that, as supporting characters have undiscovered conflict, and the world building / physics (magic) architecture is still being revealed. The second book took the franchise from what I thought was a male sexual fantasy into something that could transition into an epic fantasy. I'd like to see it be a blend of the two, and we will see it he can do that in the next book.
Jeff Hayes narrated the first book and Nick Podehl narrated the second. I honestly think and feel both are very talented narrators. I think Jeff burrows into Felix deeper, but I think Nick has a more broad cast of characters.
I'm rather divided on the narrator decision, as it's a production issue and had little to do with content creation; it is about the media the content is presented in, and this (audible) is a translation of the original.
My ideal would be Jeff as Felix, and Nick as everyone else. They are both good at what they do, and I enjoyed each of their performances.
Looking forward to Arand's next work.

Legion First!!!! Felix is back and so is Skipper
Legion First!!! That is the motto Felix's people live, die, and get ressurrected by, and it is the way that you need to think of this book series. Get it before all others. This is a fantastasically fun romp into a melding of gamelit and superheroes that is over far too fast, and is filled with funny lines, a harem of beauties, bad grass mo-fo villains, and a gubernatorial run.
This book does not take you where you expect it to go. When we first started out I really thought the whole thing would be about Felix running for governor and consolidating his forces in the new city. It's not. There is so much more to it. That's the thing with Arand, he shows you a roadmap, then promptly takes an indelible marker and makes his own roads into areas and territories you would not expect. He's pretty slick, and he continually pulls the rug out from under you. Then you find there is no floor beneath the rug. Additionally, the space below you ins't empty as it actually leads into a magma pit filled with fireproof alligators and Piranha. He then hands you an umbrella to slow your descent, and some aloe to sooth your burns. You just have to live with the bites.
Seriously, this could have been a major let down on so many levels. First, the original book in the series was simply brilliant in concept and creation. The characters, and I do mean all of them, suck you in. You love all of them, each for a different reason. Third, the first book made it so that this book had to really go freaking big or blow up. There wasn't going to be a middle ground. This book most certainly comes up to the level of being his The Empire Strikes Back book. I really hope he can avoid a Return of the Jedi in book three. Felix just continues to impress, and his solutions are pretty ingenious. I love his "fixers". Each of the other characters evolve in their own way; Kit, Andrea, Felicia, Lilly, and the rest all have their own subplots/development that fits. With a cast as large as this that is hard to do.
Another area that could have tanked this audible version is that, for whatever reason, Jeff Hays did not return as the narrator. Now, I have repeatedly stated, and will continue to do so, that Jeff is far and away my favorite narrator. He cannot be touched, and this is his genre! I was crushed when I found out that he wasn't returning for the rest of the series, and I worried that it might be a blow that SSOSH wouldn't be able to recover from. Now, if you expect me to say that Nick came in and did a better job, forget it. Hays is the MAN. HOWEVER, I will concede that if it had to be anyone, then Pohdel was the cat to take care of business. He really does his best to emulate the voices that Jeff put forth, and I think he comes closest with Andrea, but his pancakes will never be Jeff's pancakes. The rest of the voices are all great jobs, although I did have some difficulty knowing if it was Kit or Lilly talking, but I believe that is only because I have listened to jeff's version so many times that their voices are ingrained in my head.
I love that the cover shows off one of the gals from Felix's crew, but I hope that the third book will show them all, including Felix, as I know that Arand is fond of trilogies, and the next book will be then of our favorite anti-hero. The artwork is just phenomenal, and I would happily allow it to grace my phone as background or hang on my wall as a poster. Seriously, why don't authors branch out and sell some merch? Fans are fans and they will always want MORE. Do you hear me, Mr. Arand? I hopes so.
I hope that you, the person reading this review sees that I feel that this is one of the best series on the market, not matter what genre you look at. I believe that there is no way that you could not enjoy this book unless you completely lack imagination or a soul. Yes, it does deal with some dark stuff, like slavery (but not in the way you are thinking) and brains are as likely to blow by as a tumbleweed in a western or a newspaper in a postapocalyptic world, but this is an adeventure. This is a lamborghini strapped to a rollercoaster rail ride of a lifetime. Don't miss out. Join Legion now!! Remember, Legion first!!!!!! Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.
If this review helped, please press the YES below. Thank you immensely!!!

Pancakes!
I enjoyed it, despite the fact that there was a narrator change between books 1 and 2. Nick Podehl does fantastic work, but switching to his smooth flowing voice after the low growl of Jeff Hays (who also does good work) was jarring.
Book 2 was a good story, but went even faster down the trail of power creep (more like power sprint) than the first book, which was already fast in that regard. I think this series could have been even better if it had been paced slower and had progressed organically instead of as suddenly in giant leaps that it did.
I still enjoyed it, however. Pancakes!

Super Sad about Super Sales 2
I loved the first book. It was my first LitRPGish audiobook and it completely changed my concept of fantasy and audiobooks. I've listened to it 3-4 times now. Maybe that's where my problem with this one comes from...
First thing you'll notice if you come directly off the heels of the first book is the grating narrator change. I don't just mean you have to suspend belief a bit until you get used to a new voice, I mean the narration is straight up inferior. Character voices blend together more, emotional range went from expansive in book one to meager in book two, and expression just feels wrong most of the time (like there's not much change between minor lows and deep, rock bottom lows; same with highs). I've heard Nick Podehl before in The Land series and I didn't mind him much, but directly comparing him to Jeff Hays in the same series really points out the difference in quality of narrators.
If you can get past the narration (I tried REALLY hard and mostly succeeded), the story is just a mess. It reads like a fanfiction sequel rather than a true continuation of the first book. Pacing is weird and jarring an it tries to expand in all directions without having clear focus; old settings and subplots are left by the wayside and new ones are never really fleshed out. The core theme of the book basically takes a back seat too since the MCs actual power is useless, underutilized, or conveniently disabled for nebulous plot convenience reasons most of the book.
All in all I got deja vu in a bad way because this felt kinda like The Builder series; promising concept that fell flat in a hurry (just after a superb first book this time instead of much sooner).
Needless to say I wasn't a fan. Jeff Hays/SBT probably could have saved it with narration magic and post production light editing, but maybe they saw that the source had decayed and steered clear. Super sad in the end.

What happened to the other narrator?
Don't get me wrong I love Nick Podel as a narrator but I really enjoyed what Jeff Hayes did for the last book. His voice pretty much set the tone for how the MC felt about everything and it was a perfect fit. Apathetic but willing. Then reluctant to willing. And finally to a full fledged Guardian.
Nick Podel still did a great job. :)

The story is a little all over the place
The story like the title says is a little all over the place and and missing something I'm not sure what though. Maybe it's a main villain or something larger the characters must overcome.
I honestly preferred the narrator for the first book to this one. Here the voices tended to be a little muddled and all sounded rather similar.

Frustrating
First, an interesting character is killed off at the beginning for no reason. Next everyone is one-dimensional. All the heroes are the same and only have a few lines; as if to say at least Felix isn't this bad. A really interesting scene of people appearing in only existed because portals were to be added to the story. Eva is stuffed full of powers, but that does nothing for the story except prove how Felix is always right (Sarcastic air quotes), and that it is a waste of time to try and save anyone. If giving all those powers didn't serve a purpose they shouldn't have been added in the first place. The story could have gone exactly the same with Eva only having one power. The way that scene was handled was really stupid. Also if Felix dies, so does his economy, as it relies on his powers to offset the costs on all the low prices he can achieve with his power to change things.

a improvement on an already good story
this book took the story from a fun super power harem book to an actual serious and engrossing story. the writer did a great job coming up with new ideas and characters, I really felt much more attached to the series after this book then I did after the first. I love the nod to the wild wastes series that is in the book as well. I was a bit disappointed that Jeff Hays was no longer the narrator even though the current narrator has been another of my favorites, though my disappointment stemmed more from a switch of voice after getting used to them in book one rather than any lack of skill on the narrators part. he did a great job at keeping as close to the voices for each character as a different person can. over all the book was a massive improvement in a already entertaining series.

This better be leading somewhere
These books appear to be a trilogy and this appears to be the middle. Here's hoping the third one pays off for all the stuff setup in the first and second books, otherwise this is a total waste.

what did I just listen to?
the story jumps around far too much. shame since the first one was very focussed. it's like the author had too many ideas and put them all into one book rather than spread them out and make each point a full story instead of 1 chapter each. it became very strange to follow at the end and, in my opinion, large parts of the story made no sense at all. dissapointing second book.

Good, but not as good as the first
It’s a shame the narrator was changed for book 2, I am a fan of Nick Podehl and love his other books, however changing the narrator made the book feel different and somehow wrong.
The story, while enjoyable, wasn’t as good as the first book.
That being said I would still recommend & look forward to a third book, regardless of the choice of narrator.

great Follow up to the first
This second book is a great follow up to the first one good development of the different characters and just and overall good story.
The previous Narrtor was unable to read this book because of other commitments. Although
the narratetor maybe diffrent Nick Podehl dose a great job like he always dose on making everyone unique and you can tell who is who.
I am looking foward to the next book in this series and I am thankful that it is Nick Podehl has signed on to read.

Disjointed
In my opinion changing the narrator for the second book hasn't worked at all, despite the ability of the new narrator having two different people read the same story changes it entirely because of their individual reading style. It just doesn't work whatsoever unfortunately and I got a refund.
Good book just a very poor decision made for who knows what reason. Personally I would of waited for Jeff Hays..

a very good sequel , it builds on the first book
there were a few things in the first book that I had issues with, the power Felix had was one of them but this book clears that up nicely especially if you have read some of the authors other works.
that aside this book is fun and is more of the first with a good bit of tension and a lot of paperwork , buy if it's the careful planning that you like in a main character this book has that down.

Expand!
This trilogy is by far my favourite from William D Arrand with some truly spectacular characters, an intriguing story and a wealth of emotion that has had me laughing, crying and shouting in equal measure. Nick's performance is as always impeccable, especially leading on from the first book's narration by Jeff Hays.. simply amazing.

it was alright
it was an alright book, but just like in the first one the scope of Felix's powers weren't explored. There are still endless opportunities that weren't even hinted at. It would be nice if Felix could explore his powers without other telling him how to do it.
