Story
Dr. Kelly Irving knew her husband, attorney Jack Harbaugh, was acting strangely but figured they’d get through it. When she backed out of her garage that morning, she thought her car hit a bump. Instead, its progress was stopped by the body of a man her husband recently represented. The dead man had been shot by her husband’s gun. Jack was a primary suspect. Kelly couldn’t decide if Jack was a murderer or marked as the next victim. They were forced to put their marital differences aside and concentrate on keeping Jack alive while discovering who was behind the whole thing.

Story
When her phone rang, Diane Macklin wondered what her sister wanted now. Then she heard that their mother was in the emergency room with a heart problem. The doctor tending to her mother was Dr. Joe Adams, who was far from Diane’s idea of the family doctor. He had been alone since his first wife had died, and was apparently heaven-sent as a mate for Diane, if she could only get past the trauma of her previous near-miss at the altar. The heart problem was hard to solve initially, but the subsequent difficulty turned out to be murder, and affected the lives of both Diane and Joe.

He was right, and when they introduced themselves as agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency, things started to get bad. Then Caden felt as though someone had gut-punched him when his father, Dr. Henry Taggart, told him he probably had carcinoma of the pancreas. When he talked about his son assisting with his suicide, Caden wondered how he could talk him out of that.

Publisher's Summary
Dr. Ben Merrick and his fiancé, Rachel Gardner, can't get her divorced parents to stay in the same room, much less attend their wedding together. He is already looking over his shoulder expecting more trouble from a very senior surgeon who has shown he is still smarting from a previous dust-up, but Ben doesn't know if a series of mishaps and accidents are caused by a disgruntled patient's relatives or represent more from the older surgeon. Complicating it all is the question of whether Rachel's father is back doing drugs. Then, when people start dying, Ben and Rachel wonder if they can escape unscathed - and alive.

The plot is interesting and has depth and the story is well paced. Overall, it’s a very satisfying read.
This is not the first time I have listened to performances by this narrator and he is very good. I did need some time to get used to his patterns of emphasis at first, but he is adept at providing distinct character voices throughout, something I believe is invaluable to a good audio production.

Surgeon’s Choice was a good read by Richard L. Mabry. Dr Ben Merrick and his fiancé Rachel Gardner are planning their wedding but are finding it hard to get her divorced parents to stay in the same room. He has been looking over his shoulder expecting trouble from a senior surgeon. There are a series of mishaps and accidents that he isn't sure if they are cause by a disgruntled patients relatives or from the senior surgeon. Medical Mystery
This is a short and mildly entertaining book involving a surgeon, his fiancée who is a nurse and happenings in the hospital where they work.
There are a couple of mysterious events in the book and dead bodies seem to be dropping in large numbers. Both the Doctor and the nurse are suspected in a couple of these murders and they are determined to find out what really happened.
This is not a bad book, just a little lacking in substance. The story seems rushed at times and the wrap-up is fairly rushed. I would have liked more story and more explanation. The narrator, Bill Nevitt, does his usual great job and keep my interest level up. His pacing and different voices made for a good listen.
I was given a chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the narrator and chose to review it.

Decent, quick medical mystery listen...
Surgeon's Choice by Richard L. Mabry MD was a decent listen. I wasn't sure what to expect. It was a bit of a medical mystery and a bit of a family mystery outside of the hospital/medical setting. It's the story about Dr. Ben and his fiancee Rachel. Rachel's father comes to Ben with an odd request and then turns up dead. There are also other things going on at the hospital where Ben works. Are these related? Ben and Rachel are trying to unravel the mystery before more people end up dead, and also in time for their wedding. It was a decent listen, though I think that I'll likely steer clear of Dr. Mabry's stories for the time being, as this particular one just wasn't really my favorite.
Bill Nevitt did a good job narrating this short tale. While I wasn't really pulled in by the narration, it was easy to listen to and didn't take away from the story itself. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Not sure it’s for me
This is the second book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I‘m not sure his style is mine. I listened to Emergency Case first and felt it was better.
I did not really feel this was much of a mystery. The suspense build-up was minimal. People kind of randomly die. I never really felt for any of the characters. The end either came to quick or the build-up was inadequate.
This is the sixth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Bill Nevitt ) and I would listen to another. His female voices are good. The character voices are not all overly distinct, but they are distinguishable. His cadence is comfortable and expression appropriate.
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Descriptive
It's a bit descriptive, but it's a good story with good characters and it was intriguing and if you can handle, the descriptive descriptions, that the narrator described nicely, well you'll definitely enjoy it. They told the story quite well.

Surgeon’s Choice
This is the second book I’ve listened to from Richard and it’s just as enjoyable as the other. These books are standalone with no character or story crossover so they’re easy to pick up.
I never really felt the tension from this book and the jeopardy felt a little forced with the character’s reaction to it all a little blasé.
I enjoyed Bill’s narration and he makes the story really easy to listen to.

This is a easy listen with great characters and a few surprises and twists that keeps it interesting. The story developed a little slow for me but overall not too bad.

He was a human
Their wedding day rapidly approaching, clouds began to move in to obscure the sunshine of the hope of that perfect day for Dr.Ben Merrick and his bride to be, Rachel. Ben's professional life is being threatened by the unwelcome attentions of a senior colleague whilst nurse Rachel's mother is refusing to attend the marriage ceremony if her divorced father is also present. But far worse is still to come.
Narrator, Bi!l Nevitt breathes life into this short novella as he gives separate voice to each of the protagonists. Conversation was good, with a naturalistic feel, but the characters of individuals in the story never really develop. Rather than being a mystery, it felt more like an episode of a TV.medical drama, with added prayer. My thanks to the rights holder of Surgeon's Choice, who freely gifted me with a complimentary copy at my request. It was surprisingly enjoyable but lacking in emotion

An interesting audio with an amazing narrator
Another interesting medical mystery of an audiobook which I really enjoyed. Dr Ben is starting to wonder if someone at work really has it in for him or if he is just imagining things but then when people start dying and he seems to be under suspicion he struggles to understand what is actually going on how is the suspected suicide of his perspective father in law linked to the story. It’s an exciting story and the amazing Bill Nevitt is narrating it which adds to the atmosphere of the story.

It's your choice to listen but I say yes
This is a great mystery, if you are short of time. A lot happens in the short amount of time and some of it unexpected making it an interesting story.
Ben is busy planning his wedding and at the same time working with his fiance at the local hospital. but with the number of drugs hitting the streets it's not long before people start dying and one of them is Rachel's father. As the police start an investigation strange things start happening at the hospital, doctors go missing, another is killed and a few are involved in car accidents but are the things connected or is it connected to Ben himself and a previous medical case he worked on.
I liked the narrator as you can tell which character is talking and he is easy to listen too.
