Publisher's Summary

He has a big...smile.

It was the first thing I noticed that day until he stood. His grey sweatpants hung off his hips, and I didn’t want to look. I really didn’t.

I’m a feminist.

I don’t believe in objectifying men. I don’t catcall men. I don’t ogle the bodies of men. I don’t view men as objects of my affection rather than complex people with feelings, wants, and needs of their own. I don’t treat men the way society often treats women.

I treat men the way I want to be treated as a woman - with respect!

So, when Carlos ran into me while I was reviewing my interview questions in the park, it surprised me to see my photography classmate out of class. I was also surprised to see as much of him as I did.

It wasn’t just that it caught my eye. It was the fact that it held my attention.

It wasn’t just that it was large. It was the fact that it was visibly large.

It wasn’t just that it was Carlos Richmond. It was the fact that I am Akila Bishara.

And I am not seduced by anything other than intelligent conversation, witty rapport, and meaningful actions.

I am not seduced by a dick print.

I am not.

Seriously, I’m not.

Wesleigh Was The Best Thing About The Book

I had such high hopes for this one. It was too much of a slow burn but there was no fire. The narration is what made me buy the book and was really the only thing that made me finish. 😢😢😢

Sounds Like a real story too bad it's unrealistic

Boy meets girl, Girl meets boy both mutually physically and intellectually attracted to one another both share many things in common & have earth shattering sex together a great recipe for a wonderful relationship sure to Come.... but here's where the story turns stupid ... I get the whole thing about Misogynistic thinking of men & Women being sexually exploited the young lady taking issue with it... What's the unrealistic part is that she was even considering throwing all that away based on the fact that this guy works with other podcaster's that she disagreed with there point of views STOP IT‼️ not real it was a mild to medium case of that at best her hypersensitivity And his weak disposition as a man Who eventually breaks down and conform to her demanding, unrealistic ,Selfish demands left me not liking the characters unable to Connect with this story it was just disappointing... whole thing with Toxic masculinity it's gone way too overboard Black men has been emasculated enough stories like this continues to perpetuate The mental and emotional castration of black men..... just my thoughts

This book is a total gem!!

Akila meets a guy in a photography class she's taking that totally sparks her interest. Big time! Turns out he's one of the podcasters that ticked her off during a sexist rant that occurs on his show. So now, they have to work together for their class. While they are cultivating a friendship his lover cohost does some shady stuff. Damn that made me mad!! Carlos is truly something else. Grand gestures and all. Also, I loved Akila so damn much! My favorite line of this entire book is from Carlos, "Anything you can't handle. You give it to me."
This book is a total gem! It made me laugh, cry and I even got mad as hell right along with Akila and rightly so!
No better narrator to take this story on than Wesleigh Siobhan. She is a total powerhouse and did an amazing job with these characters. Just perfect.

Akila and Carlos were a great match

This book really struck a chord with me. The story telling was just smooth like milk chocolate. It was just the right amount of sweetness, richness and yummy sensuality.
First of all, Akita felt like one of my girlfriends. She was focused, strong, funny and loyal. Carlos was all of those things as well. Which made their competitive rivalry for the Remix job entertaining and full of angst.

I love the social issue presented by the “City Boys”. It was a pretty compelling social discussion concerning the objectification of women. Really good discussion about that podcast and how they influenced their society. It made me think of social media today.

The writing was visceral and the sex scenes were intensely sensual. I love Wesleigh Siobhan’s narration because she nailed the hero and heroine voices. I couldn’t put this book down and it is one of my favorites now.

SPS

When I looked at the reviews I thought this book may not have been a good pick…
I am so glad I was wrong.
This was a great listen. I love the love story.
