painfully perfect

The subject matter is painful but the plan was perfect. The checklist PDF was so helpful in staying on track and not getting overwhelmed. 30 days just one thing to focus on each day help me stay relaxed and on target. Thanks so much.

Not at all what I needed, not for me

While reading the reviews, I see that this book is useful and loved by some; however, it was not what I was looking for, nor was it what I expected. I was needing a "how to" book, which this is not.

The amount that the author believes can be accomplished in a single day is amazing--or perhaps she has truly never owned too much stuff. (I welcome her assistance with that.) She lists that "every activity, for each day, can be done in, give or take, ten minutes." Here is an example of some of the daily 10-minute activities (summarized by me):
Day 5: Check your refrigerator and every other
food storage space, check all expiration, replace foods, and organize your foods neatly.
Day 6: Go through all of your books, look for ebook versions, arrange your books, donate any you get ebooks for etc.
Day 9: Declutter your wardrobe--in 10 minutes?

Some of the wording in this book seemed a bit judgmental to me. For example, when the author stated at one point "Would you like to be anxious all the time in your life or would you rather be comfortable like every normal person in a decluttered house?" I was floored. Who determines "normal"? Do all normal people have a decluttered house? Are all people with decluttered houses in fact normal?

Some of the broad brush stroke concepts are worthwhile, but I had hoped for a bit more of a "how-to" and a bit less judgement. I think the PDF might in some cases be useful from a category perspective, perhaps; but I personally needed a deeper dive than this gave me. The narration for me seemed quite slow, which can be slightly improved by adjusting the speed.

Again, it was not what I expected it would be and I left it feeling a bit less "normal" and as if I'd been critically scolded, even though our house is close to "company-ready" at all times.

(Congratulations to the author on writing and publishing a book--I know that takes a lot of time and effort. I'm glad to see that you have an audience for whom this book is useful. I appreciate that this is valuable and doing good for some people. Congrats. That, however, was not the case for me. Apologies I could not provide a better review.)

An act of 💘 for yourself & family

An organized, clutter-free home is a gift to yourself now and later to your family. They will appreciate the ease with which they can assess and distribute your belongings as they celebrate your life through each object. Well written and concise. Clear, calm narration.

Most of the effects of this book

I started sifting through my stuff a couple of years ago. I didn't want to leave a mess for my 22 year old granddaughter to go through someday. I puttered with the process so as a result, I'm nowhere near done. Great one. Thank you.

Definitely recommend it.

this is a philosophical approach to cleaning out ones belongings via get use of stories about the authors life. it was delightful and comforting. the author offered general strategies to organize ones belongings because we don't take anything with us. another main theme is to clean out so your children won't be overwhelmed, angry and resentful of you but rather, have happy memories of you. kid was the most useful part of the book because it helped me understand the feelings around this taboo subject on Western culture.

Mostly a great book

Very motivating book to get everything in order before it’s too late. The only part I didn’t like was the chapter on the fear of dying mental disorder. It’s totally irrelevant for anyone buying a book on swedish death cleaning. That chapter could have been put to better use with tips for maintaining a clean and organized home after you have decluttered or the benefits of creating a Will or ??? anything else would have made this book 5 stars.

Do not buy it, unless you want slow death

Horrible, horrible, horrible.
Please do listen when people say do not buy this book, especially audiobook.
If you see any other books where narration is done by Georgeann Haynes you do not want to buy it. My heart stops and I want to rip myself apart just listening this woman.
Until chapter 7 no workbook. Talking about death and listening a woman who can only use one tone, it is demolishing.
Whoever is listening about decluttering there is a reason to it. We need to be encouraged and lifting us up to do things better in our life. This audiobook far from that. Very upsetting.

Too shame based for me

The style was a bit too preachy and shaming for me. Perhaps a different narrator might have worked better.
