Publisher's Summary
Stay up all night with this funny, surprising romantic comedy from Audie Award nominee Cara Bastone - scripted exclusively for audio!
It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on.
I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine.
It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.
And then somehow we keep talking…ALL NIGHT. We’re both insomniacs, so talking all night soon turns into talking EVERY night. And talking about nothing soon turns into talking about something. And here we go from in-depth analysis of reality TV to my relationship with my family, to his amazing artwork. There’s no topic we don’t cover....
Except for who I really am.
It’s the only question of his I won’t answer.
As my crush turns into an avalanche of Eliot, I think of him all the time now. But if he knew who I was, the entire house of cards we’ve built this relationship on would come toppling down.
I want him to be mine, but we might never be more than just a sweet dream....

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

Story
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Newly widowed dad Sebastian Dorner was unraveling at the edges - until his son’s teacher, Via DeRosa, threw him a lifeline. Now two years later, they reconnect at Matty’s new school, and an inconvenient but unmistakable jolt of attraction crackles between them. But why does the first person to spark with Sebastian in years have to be a millennial? Is 20-something Via really too young for him or does 40-something Sebastian just feel too damn old?

Story
Imagine a 1980s world of sumptuous hotel rooms, restaurants, New York City penthouses, and the powerful men who move easily between these pinnacles of luxury. They are music producers, rock stars, writers, and restaurateurs. They are household names like Billy Joel, Art Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, and Sting. And yet, each man has an entire aspect to his life that he doesn’t talk about publicly—his depression, his rocky marriage, his feelings of shame and failure, his private loss of faith. And now: The phone rings. Imagine the woman who has each of these men at her beck and call.

The first time a woman stepped out of a painting, I thought I was seeing things. The second time, I thought I was going mad. The night she emerged from a Renoir, I felt something else entirely - a deep stirring of desire, and the wish to get to know the brilliant beauty who's been trapped inside a painted garden for years.

Every man knows there are lines you don't cross. Like this one - don't bang your boss' little sister. Too bad I didn't know sexy, clever, irresistible London is related to the guy who signs my paychecks. Can we get like ten more of these?
I loved Call Me Maybe so much that I think I've listened to it four or five times now and have recommended it to almost everyone I know. Like seriously, it doesn't get much cuter than that story. I was so excited to listen to Sweet Talk, and Cara Bastone didn't disappoint. Chris Brinkley's voice for Eliot was PERFECT (even if I did detect a little southern twang in there??). I would have loved a tiny bit more at the ending, but overall it's a 5 out of 5 for me.

A FUN-FILLED SWEET EASY LISTEN
Well this listen was a very pleasant surprise because this new to me author has just blown me away with her refreshingly different, fun, easy-flowing, banter-packed storyline. The characters were great, the plot was unique (.. and clean) and the friendly banter, the lowering of walls and the acceptance of each other and their flaws was so natural and sweet. And the very brief angst and anxiety clouds soon parted.. letting sunshine and happy days in once more. The duet-style exchanges during the text and phone conversations felt realistic, heartwarming and fun and the dual POV narration was pure gold. There’s even random sound effects too.
Worth a credit? Yes, it would’ve been.. but yay it’s a totally free title.

Fun, sweet, laugh out loud romance
Like the first story of this series this book was a fun, sweet, laugh out loud romance and left me wanting more! Once again Cara Bastone's writing hits me right in the feels and honestly getting to hear Elliot's side of the story from his few moments in Call Me Maybe was great! I can not wait for the third installment and till then i will just listen to the first 2 a few more times :)

Eliot 💕
"I'm stupid in love with this wonderful, gentle, creative, hilarious, kind person..." 💕
Jessie is right, Eliot is the absolute sweetest and most gentle character ever created. I wanted all good things for Eliot Hoffman.
Earlier this year, I read my way through Cara Bastone's "Forever Yours" series and then quickly signed up for Audible just so I could listen to her Audible exclusives. I loved "Call Me Maybe" - which was the cutest and sweetest rom-com ever and I was super excited to listen to Eliot's story.
"Sweet Talk" was not as lighthearted as "Call Me Maybe," but I loved it even more, if that's possible. Eliot and Jessie's story made me swoon and sigh and even cry a little.
Eliot and Jessie have officially become my favorite couple in the "Love Lines" series. Jessie presented such a tough exterior, but had a gooey, marshmallow center and Eliot, well I think I've mentioned how much I loved Eliot, but I will say it again: I LOVED ELIOT. I need all the heroes in romance novels to be like Eliot; kind and respectful and soft and honest.
I also really enjoyed catching a glimpse of Vera and Fred - who continue to be adorable beyond words.
Cara Bastone has a gift for writing romance and I cannot wait for more of the "Love Lines" series

An Excellent story
Something "clicks" in the reader's heart when a story is so well balanced. Sometimes, the plot idea is solid, but the characters lack definition, etc... Here everything is exactly right. The result is an endearing, very vivid and exciting love story. The reader is never boredor confused because there is such a solid foundation. My favourite things about Sweet Talk are : the suspense, the plot twists, the dual narrator POV, and the conscious efforts to debunk gender stereotypes and mainstream concepts like "normal" or ""disabled".

I love this so much!
So, I absolutely love Cara Bastone books. All of them. I couldn’t wait for this one and I love this style. The narrators were perfect and I now have to find more books read by Chris Brinkley bc I’m crushing on his voice. This book didn’t disappoint. I hope she does more because I listened to Call Me Maybe multiple times already. Gah! I’m so sad it’s over. This makes you smile while you listen and I think we all need that.

I didn’t want it to end!!!
Oh where to start! I fell absolutely in love with the first book Call Me Maybe and Sweet Talk didn’t disappoint. I didn’t want to finish it in a day so I prolonged it as best as I could and will definitely listen to both books again. The production was amazing and I loved the voice actors! I loved the dual narrative and the little background noises that makes it seem like you’re experiencing a movie. The street noises, the footsteps and the phone notifications all of it just elevated the experience for me. I couldn’t get enough of this audiobook and the first one and I hope there are more.

Okay, but Elliot is the cutest
Okay... I finished the book and I'm thorn. Elliott is precious and adorable and I'm pissed he had to go through that trauma because of Jack. And I like Jessie, because I kind of get it, wanting to protect your family, especially when you are used to being the one who needs to fix things. But she still annoys me because you have to draw lines with people sometimes, you must be an asshole because otherwise people get hurt, you get hurt. Of course I am aware that addiction is an disease but that doesn't mean no consequences for your actions. And while it's not Jessie's job to fix her brother or take responsibility for him it still bothers me that things turned out this way. Just watching her struggle but still enable him was really shitty. All in all I liked the story but I wish Jack was a better person because even when he agrees to give himself up, he does it for his sister. Don't get me wrong that's nice but I didn't really see him feeling bad for his actual victim. He feels bad about the situation and feels bad for himself and for his sister but I don't think that's enough for me. My opinion on his character kinda made the ending a tiny bit unsatisfying even though I love the couple.

Beautiful tie in
It was a fun story and had some heavy moments but also some beautiful. I also loved how they tied in a different story "Call me maybe".

Good for the first 16 minutes and then stops
Good start to the book but then just as it hooks you in, it won’t play. Disappointed

Absolutely Addictive
I loved it! This story was funny, sarcastic, heartfelt and full of the best kind of emotional roller coaster feelings.
JB and Elliot are perfect strangers, with the perfect amount of chemistry, and kept me hanging onto every moment.
The relationships in this story are well defined and flow together without conflict. The way each character ties to the next is thoughtful and often double edged.
For a short listen, it is more than enough entertainment and thoroughly worth the hours of sleep I lost clinging to the romantic suspense.
I recommend wholeheartedly.

Absolutely loved this
Absolutely love this book. I just love Chris Brinkley narrating a book. I had a few tears and laughed out loud at parts too. Loved the story line so much.

Great Performances
Really enjoyed this series, and this one kicks it off well. For me, the challenge of writing specifically for vocal performance is so fascinating, the need to portray your characters almost exclusively through dialogue creates a tightly edited and dynamic listening experience.
You're straight into the story and I was hooked immediately. Great performances.

Not great but wasn't terrible
The performance was good but I didn't like it as much as the first one. It was a bit too corny and the characters just weren't as believable or likeable.

Cute!
Great narration, engaging story.
Things were resolved a little too easily. Elliot came across a a bit of a door mat. But still, entertaining and worth a listen.
Audio format works great for this kind of story.
