Story
Brinkley Springs is a quiet little town. Some say the town is dying. They don't know how right they are. Five mysterious figures are about to pay a little visit to Brinkley Springs. They have existed for centuries, emerging from the shadows only to destroy, to kill. To feed. They bring with them terror and carnage, and leave death and blood in their wake. As the night wears on, Brinkley Springs will be quiet no longer. Screams will break the silence. But when the sun rises again, will there be anyone left to hear?

Tommy O’Brien once hoped to leave his run-down industrial hometown. But, marriage and fatherhood have kept him running in place, working a job that doesn’t even pay the bills. And now, he seems fated to stay for the rest of his life: He's just learned he’s going to die young - and soon. But he refuses to leave his family with less than nothing - especially now that he has nothing to lose. Story
The Westgate Galleria Mall was once a sprawling, shining monument to American consumerism and suburban growth. Now, it is a crumbling reminder of how both have fallen - an architectural ghost, haunting the outskirts of society. That makes it the perfect filming location for a YouTube channel devoted to the exploration of abandoned places. But the mall isn't as empty as it seems, and the residents have sinister obscene plans for them. Now, with the daylight still hours away, both the hunters and the hunted will fight to stay alive...and desperately try to make it home.

Pockets of survivors gather on mountaintops, watching as the waters climb higher and higher. But as the tides rise, something else is rising, too. Each suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder, experiencing complex delusions and sometimes fantastical identities. Pace tries to piece together what happened when apparently one of their alternate personalities tried to kill Cassandra.

Publisher's Summary
All across the world, people suddenly vanish in the blink of an eye. From their cars during the rush hour commute. From shopping malls. Their homes. Their beds. Even from the arms of their loved ones. Airline pilots. World leaders. Teachers. Parents. Children. Gone.
Steve, Charlie, and Frank were just trying to get home when it happened. Now they find themselves left behind and wishing they'd disappeared, too. Trapped in the ultimate traffic jam, they watch as civilization collapses, claiming the souls of those around them. God has called his faithful home, but the invitations for Steve, Charlie, and Frank got lost. Now they must set off on foot through a nightmarish postapocalyptic landscape in search of answers. In search of God. In search of their loved ones. And in search of home.

Waste of my time.
There is no twist, there is no surprise. I predicted every single thing that happened. I read a review that said plot twist. Usually if a book is this bad I won’t finish it. I waited for a plot twist that never came.
Hey if you want a standard rendition of the rapture then by all means purchase this.

I could have gotten this story from John Hagee
I usually really like Brian Keene's books. BUT, this book reminds me of the Rapture People and all of their nonsense. He said it was from a "secular point of view" and yet I think it's the same old crap that I've had to endure for many, many years. I hated this book, For anyone who has ever been traumatized as a kid or adult using anything religious then you might want to avoid this one.
For all those who are fans of the Rapture, Tribulation or the Left Behind series/movies/whatever, then this is right up your alley. .

Entertaining Short Story Superbly Narrated
Take the Long Way Home is an entertaining short story from one of the best modern writers of horror. Like most of Keene's work, it is paced perfectly with lots of relatable and interesting characters.
Chet Williamson is always a pleasure to listen to. His characterisation is spot on. I think he and Keene make a great team.
Another quality presentation from Crossroad Press.
Highly recommended.
