Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

review
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, I'm upset that on book six: the Narrator decided to change Janelle's voice to be Scottish! Why would you do that. It throws the whole book off. You fall in love with the characters in the books by the sound you give them and then in the middle of the series you change the style of the main characters voice. Makes it hard to follow.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Tangled Webs?
The concept of the book. Taking the blood and putting them in the Landends way of life. Brilliant idea.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
yes it did, except that he changed Janelle's voice.
Did Tangled Webs inspire you to do anything?
no
Any additional comments?

Janelle is SUDDENLY SCOTTISH??? WHY???
Would you try another book from Anne Bishop and/or John Sharian?
I would have to read the reviews first because any book where Janelle is suddenly Scottish is not worth listening to. I LOVE Anne Bishop's books. The world she created is fantastic. In the first 5 books John Sharian does a great job and reads Janelle's lines with a normal American style accent. But then suddenly in Tangled Webs he changes her to Scottish. WHY? Why would he do that? It's HORRIBLE! It totally ruined a great series.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
By totally screwing up the voice of the main character, Janelle. For the first 5 books she has a normal voice. Then all of a sudden with no warning or reason he gave her a really bad Scottish accent. The producers of this book series NEED to have the narrator come back in the studio and re-dub ALL of Janelle's parts. It's not just Scottish, it's BAD Scottish! I could do a better Scottish accent just based on watching the movie Far and Away. Every single time Janelle speaks it has the same cadence over and over. It's like the only example of a Scottish accent that he knows is from Scottie on Star Trek original series! It's awful, it's distracting, and I make a barfing sound every time she talks. Janelle used to be my #1 favorite character, now I cringe when I know she's about to speak, and it's all because of that stupid horrible accent. Blaah! (barfing sound)
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Tangled Webs?
I wouldn't delete any scenes because the story is great. This bad review has nothing to do with Anne Bishop. But I would have John Sharian come back in the recording studio and re-record every single scene where Janelle speaks.
PLEASE! If anyone from the production company reads this, PLEASE have John Sharian re-record Janelle's lines. On behalf of the entire listening audience let me assure you, we would rather have those bad obvious edits throughout the entire book than to have to listen to that really pathetic, badly done, fake, cheesy, unbelievable, "Scottie from Star Trek", repetitive Scottish accent. He needs to re-dub every book where he read Janelle in that terrible fake Scottish accent. I'm returning this book because it was so disappointing, and it's all because of Scottie Janelle.

Our favorite characters out to play
Any additional comments?
This book is clearly an excuse to play with everyone's favorite characters from the dark jewels trilogy again. It is great to read about friendly faces but the story is...trite. As many other reviewers have said, it is a Halloween story.
Also, Janelle's accent went weird in this book. Apparently she has an Irish brogue now.

I couldn't do it, narrator ruined this book
I've listened and loved all of the books in the series up until now. The narrator gives Jaenelle, the main character, a friggin Scottish accent. I could kick myself for not heeding the warning of other reviewers before buying. I couldn't get past the 6min mark.
I apologize for having to give the Story 1 star, because Audible makes you mark all 3 to write a review. I have no idea how the story is, nor will I ever, unfortunately.

Not a Stand Alone!
Why this is offered and not the series it comes from, I don't know. This book can only be understood if you've read Ann Bishop's Dark Jewels Trilogy. If you haven't - don't bother. You won't understand any of it.
If you have and liked the series enough to want more - then I recommend it. This is pure escapism and as such is low on shocking plot twits or anything of that sort. It's just the characters we all know and love from the Black Jewels Trilogy coming out to play again.
It's actually something of a Halloween story but would be fun at any time of the year.
Not great literature, no. But all the more fun for it's touch of silliness.

I can't get past the voice change
Would you try another book from Anne Bishop and/or John Sharian?
Yes, I will continue to listen to the series
What was one of the most memorable moments of Tangled Webs?
Ugh really the change of Janelle's voice threw it all off for me. How can the narrator/producer/author not remember the way the first FIVE books were read? Why change it in the middle? So shoddy
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Completely changed the main characters voice and accent. She sounds like an old crone now

Well...
This wasn't my favorite of the BJT stories and I agree with other readers it's a great Halloween story.
John Sharian's performance ruined it a little for me. Not only did he give Jaenelle a weird accent but Daemon's voice was off in some parts too. It just wasn't as consistent as it had been in ALL the other novels.

Continuity
The story was lovely and I really enjoyed it, however there was no flow or continuity with the audio., from the other books that come before it in the series. The main character went from having a soft gentle voice to having this hard one with a completely different accent. It really spoilt listening to the book for me
