For every parent with a young child

As a child, I rarely read. My younger sister, however, devoured books. The difference in our reading interest was evident as she was accepted into an Ivy League school (me, not so much). I knew that once I had kids, I would encourage them to read as my sister did. This book clearly lays out what we, as parents, can do to not only teach our kids how to read, but also to cultivate a love of reading. Phenomenal book!

Incredible tips to help my child’s reading comprehension!

I found this audiobook extremely useful and I now have some great techniques to implement into my youngest child’s reading journey. I especially enjoyed chapter 5 “Read read read!…”. All about the importance of reading to your child frequently. I experienced this first hand with my first child and even to this day he LOVES to read (and is one of the top academic students in his class). I highly recommend this audiobook!

Teach Your Child in 1/2 the Time and 2x the Fun!

This book is a game changer for teaching kids how to read, because it actually makes the process fun- for both parent and child!

I used to think of this as a chore that I wasn't comfortable with, but now I feel confident and actually look forward to diving into new books with the little one. Kind of shocking... for me anyways!

I can already see them developing a love for books, which warms my heart. :)

Really liked how in depth it was - from nursery rhymes, to milestones, to your reading environment, letter sounds, sight words... I feel like "Teaching Your Child to Read" covers all the bases.

And again, the big thing is that you'll actually ENJOY the process and going through the book.

Highly recommend for every Mom or Dad!

You need this book!

This book is beyond amazing. Every parent of a toddler, every grandparent of a toddler, every preschool, and every early years educator needs to listen to this book. The quality of the guidance given in this book is beyond any that I have come across and I have looked for quite sometime. From language development for infants to read-aloud sessions with toddlers to the "read it to me" stage, a child goes through several reading ages and stages and this book will guide you through each. I am so excited for my little one and watching him grow his reading skills. Thanks to the guidance in this book we are going to have a lot of fun along the way. I have purchased the paperback for handy reference too. Oh and the free guide is really cool too.

This is so insightful!

This book has been so helpful. It literally offers practical examples of the methods to use when teaching your child how to read. The techniques provided have improved my kid’s literacy in reading and comprehension. I’ve always placed a lot of stress on my son’s lessons, but I didn’t realize I was making it unenjoyable. This book has helped me engage with a different approach by making it more practical by using other methods like changing my voice to do a character, singing, practicing sight words, or even relating what we’ve read daily.

I also found that he did better with books that rhymed just as the book suggested, and the recommended rhyming books were great too.

Perfect for getting your preschooler into reading!

My youngest son has just entered preschool this year and he is so excited to learn. This book provided my wife and I with a ton of great tools and a solid foundation to help him get started! He has the knack to read and we’re getting started on the right track based off what we have learned in this book. I appreciate that Jayne has illuminated that the milestones are not always accurate because at times we worried that maybe he wasn’t where he needed to be. Not true at all! He’s exactly where HE needs to be and is learning at a great rate now!

WOW!

This is an incredibly comprehensive book! Wow, it goes through absolutely everything you need to know to help a child become a reader. No matter the age, reading to a child is a priceless gift to them. The more children are read to as infants and beyond, the better their vocabulary , creativity, emotional wellbeing and more.
It also follows through with how you can help older children with comprehension. Once they start reading on their own, you need to make sure they actually understand what they are reading, and gives ideas on how to keep them engaged and loving it!
This book is more than just a How to though. It encourages and inspires caregivers to teach their children every day, even if they don’t feel “qualified”. It also contains just the right about of humour and is very easy to listen to. The author is clearly passionate about the topic and she includes many stories and examples to convey what she is explaining.
One of the best parts, in my opinion, is the companion guide. This is one of those books that you may want to keep as a reference because it contains so much valuable information. Although I LOVE audiobooks, sometimes you just need to SEE things in print. Plus, as your children age, you will want to revisit certain chapters based on where they are in their learning journey.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has the pleasure of spending time with little ones.
EXCELLENT!

Parents, don't freak out!

As a retired First Grade teacher, I wish all children were prepared with the loving and effective strategies that Jayne Beacon outlines.

Reading success for your child is much simpler to achieve than you might think. Let's be honest; inspiring a love of learning and fostering early literacy skills does not require extensive preparation or knowledge. The author of this book reassures parents against the intimidation of preparing their children to become proficient and enthusiastic readers.

If you hope your child will grow up to be an interested, inquisitive, and self-assured reader, it is a good idea to incorporate literacy into your daily family routine. Beacon emphasizes that both parents and children can best benefit from the process when it is enjoyable.

The most important thing you can do as a parent is to read aloud to your preschoolers and to talk with them as much as possible. Reading aloud and conversation are the best ways to help your children become lifelong readers who love to read.

Play, conversation, and creativity are at the top of Beacon's suggestions. She infuses her book with many clever methods for transforming everyday activities into educational and entertaining opportunities.

Once your child begins school, Beacon's handy glossary of reading-related "Teacher Jargon" is a good reference. In addition, the narrator includes how you may get your hands on print copies.

The author has provided parents with ways to use their child's developmental stages, environmental print, nursery rhymes, phonics, and "sight words," with many methods to aid your child in learning.

Improving and connecting your adult reading and writing habits encourages your child's motivation to engage in the same activities.

The tone of this book is reassuring and very informative. You hope your children develop into competent and enthusiastic readers, and Beacon gives you a realistic map through your preschooler's growth and development stages.

Preparing your child to read is not as difficult as you might think. Instead, it can be a process filled with joy toward success.

Excellent Guide

This book is an excellent guide that will give your child the advantage in preschool! It is very detailed, informative, and it has tips that I've never thought of when I was teaching my daughter to read. Comprehensive!

This is a detailed and comprehensive book that will get your child reading independently in no time. As an educator and a mother myself, I use many of the strategies included to get my students and my own kids to love reading and to master that art quickly and easily. The writer has put together a very well researched and thorough guide and I will be recommending this to my parents, family and friends. The narrator herself lend such value to the overall work and added to its weight . I can guarantee its success if these steps are taken and practiced. Kudos to the author for having put together this well-written resource.

Ever since I was a little girl, I loved to read and my parent played a great part in my reading development and comprehension. Not only would they love to read me stories but they would then pass the book to me to read and practice pronunciation. This audiobook is great in breaking down different strategies and milestones to celebrate with your child from a very young age to growing adolescence.

The tips and activities create great opportunities to cherish the nurturing of your child's reading development, highly recommend!

Great book!

This book is extremely creative and informative!

Reading this has helped me feel hopeful that I am raising my daughter to be a confident reader. Although she enjoys reading, this book has helped make reading an exciting part of her day.

It taught me alot about the different stages of learning and the way children develop. What I loved the most was that it included activities and games, making it easy to teach my daughter to read while keeping her engaged and having fun.

This book is a must-have for anyone having a hard time getting their children to read or anyone who just wants to make reading more enjoyable.
