The Untouchables. That's what everyone calls them. At least, it's my best friend's nickname for them. And since she's the only one that talks to me at my new school, I'll take her word for it. The nickname probably comes from the fact that they're exorbitantly wealthy. Old wealth. The kind that isn't flaunted around. But you can tell by the way they carry themselves. Or maybe the name just refers to the fact that they're so beautiful it's almost hard to look at them.

And this summer is all about me: mending my broken heart (screw all men), figuring out what I want to do with my life (a life that thankfully does not include my ex), and trying to better myself (does eating ice cream count?). But all of my perfect planning comes to a halt when the sexiest lifeguard in existence asks me out. I have to say no.

In fifth grade my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed. It didn't take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever. For the next seven years, it was us. She's the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

Publisher's Summary
Only once in my life have I lost my words at the sight of perfection - on a rainy autumn morning when I first met James Hunter. Or rather, when I literally ran into him. I had never seen anyone so handsome in my entire life. The stubble along his jaw line. The way he caught me in his strong arms. The way he stared at me so intently with his dark brown eyes that swirled with secrets.
I felt it in a rush. That I wanted him. That I needed him in my life. I’m not naïve. I could tell in two seconds that he was out of my league. And not just because it looked like he had stepped out of the pages of a magazine. Well, that and the fact that he’s my professor.
Trust me, I know I need to forget about him. But how could I possibly when every time I see him in class it feels like he’s daring me to cross the line?

No...just no
I really should never have started this series since it's totally out of my comfort zone but I was trying to be open-minded.. (I have never approved of men in positions of authority who take advantage of vulnerable girls-- but that's my opinion). Probably more "contemporary" than I am comfortable with but beyond that, there are other considerations. First of all, the narrator is so childish sounding that it's difficult to imagine that the heroine could actually make a mature decision---which she doesn't and continues to do throughout this book. This begs the question as to why an educated, "mature" man would choose such a shallow, vapid girl who can't make a decision and stick to it. There's not much to the story apart from her sexual escapades and that's hardly enough to continue to the next in series.
Needless to say, this one wasn't for me so I'll leave this series to the college age girls.

Not obvious
I received this book for free on audible from a friend and saw a lot of negative reviews, but decided to listen anyways.
I really liked this book (so much in fact that I'm currently on book 3 in the series and ordered one of the spin-offs as well). Ivy Smoak is a great author and the story line is not typical. Penny is a little dramatic and annoying but she is 19 years old and going through a lot of crazy crap! I think it's unfair to judge her immaturity too harshly...she is immature.
Also, I've never read a romance novel where I was rooting for both male heros. Tyler and Professor Hunter are both amazing.

Narrator sounds too young
Good story, as far as college age gap romance, but it was difficult to ignore the tiny, girlish voice of the narrator, especially as the main focus of the relationship hinges on the professor’s mistaken presumption that Penny is older than her actual age. Narrator sounded early teens to me.

Holy Freaking Cow I LOVED this book!
Holy cow! Wow! I can't believe I have only now just discovered this series. There were a few parts that could have used a bit of work technically, I do think that the narrator sounded far younger than 19 in her delivery, but again holy freaking cow I loved this story. I was hooked from page one and I believed it every step of the way.
I am a sucker for Alpha males and Professor Hunter ticked all my boxes. He was dominant, confident and strong, oh so strong! On top of that he was rich, yet modest, determined and knew exactly how to vocalize what he wanted in bed.
Speaking about bed... Ivy is a freaking genius when it comes to writing sex scenes that kept you flipping pages and feeling deliciously dirty with each one. I am looking forward to reading through all four books in this series. Definitely a steamy read!!!

Waste of time
The female narrator sounds like a child, which then adds to the annoyingness of the female lead. She makes such immature wishy-washy decisions. I get that she is young, but this could have been so much better. Also, there is a "cliffhanger" to finish the story in book 2. But< i could not care less about trying to get through that.

Immature
Penny is incredibly immature, hypocritical and annoying. I fail to see the attraction. The premise of student and hot professor is a good one, but this book wasn’t for me. She is far too whiney. I won’t be continuing the series, maybe a younger audience would find it more appealing.

Cringeworthy
As a huge 50 shades fan I thought I’d give this a go. However I found the story to be pretty mediocre and Penny herself very annoying. The girl who reads the book also sounds like she has a cold and read the book in a constant drone which grated on me a bit. I managed to finish but it was really cringe in places. I won’t be continuing with the sequels :(

It could have been good…but it wasn’t…
Despite the fact it is a romantic erotica, which means book must be aimed at adult audience it feels like it’s written for a young teenagers. Nothing makes sense here. Dialogues and motives are both poor, stereotypical, there is no thrill, nothing new here, vocabulary is poor, constantly repeating itself. There are moments it’s so cheesy it literally makes you want to throw out. The heroin is so flat, she has literally nothing interesting about herself. Even if she would be the most beautiful woman in the world I do not understand how any man could fall for her. She is flat, stereotypical, boring and predictable. On a top of that so immature my 12 old cousins seems to be more suitable to take her place. There are moments she just doesn’t seem “real” at all. Like a really bad actress who cannot pull her performance and make audience root for her. On a top of that I can see that that it is in a way a poor copy of one bestselling book which title starts with “50”.
I really did not have high expectations when I have picked this book. I wanted a romance aimed at adult audience, something entertaining to kill the time. I cannot even say how disappointed I was.

The sex is hot...but
the sex is hot here but I just wasn't a fan of Penny. I guess being older than 40 I was finding her behaviour very high school, but it does show that the character is very young and naive. She is only in college and doesn't have much experience with men or even boys which is an accurate portrayal of her character but I would then find it very difficult to believe that James would think she was older. I don't know many guys of his age that would put up with her, a guy who clearly married young and almost divorced at 27 would not be bothering with a serious relationship with a teenager and though she might not look 19 her behaviour actually screamed 16 to me. maybe I'm just too old for this book because I also don't like controlling men. 5 stars for the hit sex though.
