Publisher's Summary

Christianity isn’t about following rules, it’s about a relationship. The rise in popularity of this phrase coincides with a growing disinterest and misunderstanding regarding the role of God’s life-giving, perfect law in the Christian life. Rather than the source of joy it was intended to be, the law is viewed as an angry god’s restrictions for a rebellious people.

Unpacked

This book really helped to unpack something that perhaps I had mentally classified as archaic and basic (The 10 Commandments). I’m really appreciative that this is applicable to my life today and forever. God knew and knows what he’s doing. Besides being a good read, it cuts to the heart.

Jen Wilkin is great!

I love this book and will listen again. She explains the commandments in ways I’ve not heard…from the obvious mean to adjacent meanings…going from old to New Testament.

And she does it COMPLETELY WITHOUT all the overly feminine non-essential hyperbole and fluff. Which I hate.

Facts, examples, and explanations only.

Highly recommend. Anything by her.

A must read

This is one of the best books I have ever read. Beautifully written, scripturally sound, and equally encouraging & convicting. I have read/listened to it at least four times, and discover something new each time. I enjoyed it so much, I gifted it to my entire Bible study.

10/10 • Ten Words to Love

Jen Wilkin is one of my favorite teachers. She has a gift for communication in both written and spoken word. Her delight in God is evident in her work and this work is no exception. She opens up the ten commandments, making them accessible in a whole new way, and calling each reader (listener) closer in to the heart of God. She brings the text alive with context and home with thoughtful questions.

Jen considers each word carefully, bringing out new depths from old commands, calling us to changed hearts, not just moralistic deism. She offers the hope of a future where "things we have exalted will be cast down to the level of their real worth" - and an exhortation to cast them down now, giving "undivided allegiance to the God of our costly deliverance." She calls us to worship with single-minded allegiance, being conformed in thought, word, and deed into the image of our God, not the image of the enemy. It all starts with the worship of God alone and builds beautifully in a practical call to love God with our whole hearts, souls, minds, and strengths - and then to love those made in His image as we love ourselves. It's a call to love His law, His ten words, and let them transform us more into His likeness. Each chapter ends with reflection questions and a call to prayer. 10/10, would recommend.

Love it!

Love the way Jen breaks down each of the 10 Commandments - shows how they’re related to each other, connect and make logical sense as well as how they deeply effect our walk today. Another well-done Wilkin book!

10 Words for the Win!

This book had me from start to finish. For those diving into The Word of God this book brings insight and depth the the laws of God. Jenn brings these Words to our modern day lives and illuminates how to apply them. Love. Love. Love. I listened to the audio book 3 times already and I know it will stay downloaded in my phone for easy access to listen and refresh.

The 10 Commandments Illuminated

Another great book by Ms. Wilkin. She reminds us of the Letter of the Law and challenges us- as Christ Himself did- to live in the perfect Spirit of the Law. Bottom line: It's all a matter of the heart.

feeling convicted

My daughter has been recommending Jen Wilkin for some time. This book was a great Audible listen. As a life-long Christian I was feeling pretty smug about my understanding of and adherence to the Ten Commandments. Jen's analysis brought some real eye-openers to me. Thankfully "sanctification is an ongoing process" and a loving yet just God gives me a new day everyday to seek to be more like Christ. Thanks Jen!
