Story
Recently-divorced Joel is finally living as a gay man, but he’s not sure he’s ready to jump into a relationship. That doesn’t stop him from noticing his new contractor’s muscular build, hewn from hard, physical work, or his storm-colored eyes. The icing on the cake? There’s more to Finn than good looks. Maybe he’s the perfect guy to share long walks on the beach and warm nights in front of a fire. But it’s been 20 years since Joel was with a man. While he’s not forgotten how to flirt, he’s nervous about making a move. Especially with Finn.

Years later, Lucas Donovan, now a member of the force, is on a mission to bring a ruthless serial killer to justice. For years, Jack Emerson has eluded capture in the vast Canadian wilderness, but now Donovan has vowed that nothing on earth will stop him from seeing this man caught and punished. The oath is both personal and professional, since one of the men Emerson killed was Constable Jamie Donovan, Lucas' twin brother.

Publisher's Summary
Tim Latham had only been riding for the Pony Express for a week before he has to show the new guy the trail. Being raised on a farm in the Sacramento area, the Pony Express gave him an opportunity to see more of the country beyond his family’s little plot of land. He loves everything about the job: the adventure, the scenery, and the speed. Racing the wind on the back of a horse was as close to perfect as he could imagine.
Jeremiah Rollins grew up in San Francisco under the shadow of his father's successful shipping business. But Jeremiah craves the adventure he reads about in the dime novels of which he can’t get enough. On a whim, and despite his father’s disapproval, he signs up for the Pony Express and leaves his old life behind for the steep, rocky trails that cross the Sierra Nevada.
Both men are excited to begin their journey on their first ride together to Nevada Territory. They set out, making their way from station to station, racing as fast as their horses can carry them, and their friendship grows every mile. They both wanted adventure, but they may end up getting more than they dreamed of. Every 10 or 15 miles brings new experiences and new feelings that grow with each mile they pass.

So tender and low on angst! This was WONDERFUL!
Now, this is what I'm talking about! A wonderful story that's low on angst and high on tenderness and devotion. Tim Latham had only been riding for the Pony Express for a week before he has to show new guy Jeremiah Rollins the trail. Against his father's wishes, Jeremiah leaves San Francisco to joins the Pony Express, craving adventure he's read about in dime novels. The young men become friends as they share the journey to the Nevada Territory encountering challenges with less-than-honorable station owners and mother nature's creatures. Then Tim suffers an injury when his horse is spooked by a rattler and he is taken to a Native American tribe for healing. The medicine man seems aware that Tim's feelings towards Jeremiah are so much more than mere friendship, referring to him as Tim's mate and encouraging him to let Jeremiah know how he feels. Jeremiah returns his affections and both are united in a ceremony when visiting the tribe later on in the story. Ah, I'm tearing up again! I needed the soul-cleansing this story provided. So many historic love stories depict some level of shaming, if not total hostility with violence. This book was pure in its avoidance of that toxicity. BL Maxwell used words that allowed me to see that sky, the mustangs running free, feel the heat, smell the horses! Such sensations! Sheesh! I loved this more than I can convey.

loved it
I loved this book. Patrick Miller really brings this story to life and makes you love the characters even more. Tim Latham has only been with the pony express a week. He is tasked with showing the new guy the ropes. Jeremiah Rollins grew up in San Francisco but wants to see more and have adventures like what he reads about. Despite his fathers disapproval he joins the pony express. Both men are excited about the journey. But when Tim gets hurt. Can Jeremiah get them to where they need to go? And make the delivery in time. And more importantly can the love they have grow into more?

Sweet historical romance
A very sweet historical romance on the pony express. It is set in the 1860s and definitely enjoyable. The characters are really well fleshed out and the relationship developed really well. There was a good amount of excitement to get caught up in and to make me keep wanting to listen along with the relationship. I loved getting to know the characters and it had a good amount of background to make the setting and story feel real.

A sweet romance on the Pony Express route.
Listening to this story was so exciting!
I felt like I had been transported back in the middle of the Pony Express riding with Tim and Jeremiah and sharing their enthusiasm, their thirst for life and adventure and their sweet, almost shy feelings growing for each other.
Despite absolutely being a romance, the book is very informative, or maybe it just had the merit of making me google everything about the Pony Express route, the stations, the Native American tribes, I found it all so interesting!
As a side note for avid romance readers like me, please note the book has very little steam (no on page sex, just a couple of kisses) as it’s more centred about their shared love for the wild and their budding relationship. Also, they are both very young, and even if the book is set around 1960, I really appreciated the lack of graphic contents.

Ten or Fifteen Miles Closer to Love and My Heart
I was so happy to hear that BL was releasing this as an audiobook. Ten or Fifteen Miles is one of my favorite books due to the historical aspects and the characters. This is BL Maxwell's first historical romance set in the 1860s at the height of the Pony Express when riders travel between stations on horseback to deliver mail and other important documents.
Patrick Miller is a new to me narrator but he has the perfect voice to bring Tim, Jeremiah, Tipper, and Lak'a to life. Tim and Jeremiah are one of my favorite couples in the BL Maxwell world. Each mile ridden between different stations brings them closer to each other and love.
You can hear the love and emotion behind Patrick's deep and twangy drawl. I realize his voice might not suit everyone but for this story, he is absolutely perfect. I got shivers down my spine when Lak'a called Jeremiah "Your mate" when Tim was lying injured. My absolute favorite scene is near the end of the audiobook when Tim sees what the future can bring and that silver ring just brings tears to my eyes.
I can't wait to listen to all of her audiobooks once they are released. If Ten or Fifteen Miles is any indication, they will all be wonderful. Now I need to re-listen to this again :)

as good as the ebook
The story is always 4-5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.
The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.
PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings:
5* - very very good
it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A
3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

Great visit to the wild west!
I love old westerns, and the perspective of a Pony Express rider, 2 even, was so nice. I can’t imagine what that must have been like, but I loved listening to this story. I haven’t read the book yet, but I’m definitely going to read for sure, just to soak in the enjoyment again. I really liked the narrator, Patrick Miller’s voice, totally western sounding to me. I liked the pace of the story and inflection. I definitely would recommend this audio.

A great adventure for the pony express.
🎧 Narrated by Patrick Miller
3.8 stars = narration.
My first listen to this narrator with this book. I had a hard time differentiating between the voices of Tim and Jeremiah. The accent used for the charactors was good for the country orgins.
📘 5 Stars = story book.
A great start with an adventure of the pony express with two lads riding with Tipper. The story is a beautiful book with both POVs.
• natures animals.
• some special friendships made.
• a shonky station owner and a gorgeous ending for these guys.
New beginnings and a world to explore to get the post through.
Tim was 17 and experiencing the pony express life on horseback delivering mail. He meets a new employee and was expected to show him the trails. Jeremiah traveled west to experience the Mail Express that he'd read in books. From San Fran to the country, his one chance of the job was all he had.

Changed my mind
When I first started listening to this I thought, this isn't for me, but I carried on and then I was hooked. As I'm from England I couldn't relate to this until I suddenly had old John Wayne Westerns in my mind and it all kinda clicked. A Taboo relationship excepted by the ones that mattered. Great book.
