Publisher's Summary
Best-selling author Jeremy Robinson returns with Tether, another entry into the genre he created—the kaiju (giant monster) thriller—this time turning it on its head.
In the middle of the night, an explosion rocks Cambridge, Massachusetts, and wakes Saul Signalman. Blue, ethereal light pulses in the sky. A video call from his wife shows her consumed in bright light, but the call ends abruptly. The explosion of light intensifies. The power goes out, and electronic devices stop working. Saul races to his wife’s lab at the explosion’s core, but the building and his wife are gone.
All that remains is a test subject named Rain, a woman with no memory, whose eyes glow and whose body lights up the night when monstrous nightmares descend on Boston. Her creators will stop at nothing to get her back. Pursued by a rogue government agency, Saul goes on the run with Rain—the only person who might be able to explain what happened to his wife. Rain might also know how to stop the otherworldly terrors that are wiping out cities.
Jeffrey Kafer is back as the voice of Robinson’s Nemesis series, pulling listeners into a supernatural world of monsters, madness, and malevolent agents that will keep them on the edge of their seats until the very end.
"Kaiju" means "strange beast" in Japanese and refers to giant monsters such as Godzilla, Gamera, and Jeremy Robinson’s creation, Nemesis.

Story
Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own. The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning.

Our favorite moments from Tether

A Refreshingly Different Kaiju Story
First and foremost - cheers to Audible and ACX for having this book available for pre-order. Second for having such a great hero image there (at least before the book released).
Going into this I didn't read a single thing from the synopsis. I went in completely blind and I loved every second of it. Robinson knows how to write a story without a ton of filler and knows how to write well-crafted interconnected characters like few others in the business.
The only thing I knew going into it was that this was going to be a Kaiju story. For those not in the know, a Kaiju is "a Japanese word meaning "strange creature". In English, it has come to mean "monster" or "giant monster"". So, I knew giant creatures - but that was it. Obviously from the amazing cover art - I saw that they were giant and tentacled. What I didn't know was how incredibly original this story was going to be. In chatting about this on twitter I said:
"I'm SUPER close to finishing it. It's refreshingly different from other Kaiju stories I've read."
I realize that I cannot really dig into much of the story without giving a lot of it away - but know you're in for a lot. The main character is a nice-guy who is genuinely working on putting his foot down. The story is as much his journey into being more forceful as it is about giant and insane monsters. I enjoyed the down to earth touch of Saul's character. He was such an "every man" that I didn't even question his motives.
Overall, a great and original Kaiju story that I'll be recommending to others.

Kaiju’s are back baby!
Robinson is the gift that keeps on giving. His ability to craft amazing stories with unique concepts is unsurpassed. With Tether he brings us back into the world of the Kaiju that he first blessed us with during the epic Nemesis Saga. This time its paranormal, massive beasts and thrilling chases. This is an amazing story with electric characters and the, now expected, pop culture and cross-over references. Makes you question your beliefs in an afterlife and the paranormal. Twists, turns and surprises all the way. What a ride!

Robinson can tell a story until he can't
I like Jeremy Robinson's work. I've listened or read a number of them. However there is an issue I find in many of the books I have read or listened to. It starts with great characters, great pace, great situations, and then it bogs down. I don't know why. I feel at a certain point I'm losing interest, and I can't pin point it yet.
However this being said, i will continue to buy and read his books. Some I won't be able to retain interest in, others I do. Others I will force myself to the end, others I want to finish. Maybe it's me, maybe it's him. But don't let my opinion sway you from getting this book. I tend to leave reviews critically honest.
Again, I really enjoyed this book up until a certain part. Had I left a review based upon the first part of the book, it would be five stars around.

Interesting concept
This book involves a man who feels he is less than he should be. He is put into a position where he must develop within himself what he needs to survive. He finds that his wife is involved in an lab accident and then things begin to happen where he has to fight for his survival and those he has gathered around himself.
This book was a continuous adrenaline rush as the group was pursued across the country. There was never a moment when you cold "guess" what the outcome would be.
The narrator was outstanding.
This book was provided free of charge with expectation of a review.

Ghost kaiju and great conspiracy theories abound
On a FaceTime call with your wife when your whole world crumbles and is destroyed. The lab she works in explodes and something is released in the explosion. Something monstrous and not of this world. Giant kaiju like creatures half in and half out of this world are ripping the souls from the living they encounter as they destroy the labs of the company that caused them to be here in our world. What are they truly? How can we be rid of them? One seeks to help but why? The only hope for the world is a washed up cop, a rogue agent a warlock and one who doesn’t know who she is or why she can do what she does. Really great lots of twists. Very well written and masterfully narrated. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Lightweight Sci-Fi Fantasy.
The premise - a burnt out reporter‘s wife unleashes mayhem working for a evil corporation and he, along with one of the original victims and a co-conspirators, try to put the genie’s back in the bottles.
The story is relatively straight forward and plays out a lot like a midnight “B” Godzilla movie. Fitting as the ‘monsters’ are frequently referred to as Kaiju. The books characters evolve little and the ending is not a surprise.
Overall a lightweight standalone sci-fi fantasy, with competent narration. I would give it a ‘meh’.

Entertaining
Tether is an interesting story of scientific work that goes awry, those trying to find the truth, and those attempting to keep the information hidden and use it for personal gain. The story slowly unravels as the team tries to outrun a supernatural being hell bent on revenge. The characters are likable and relatable. The narrator did a good job. I started listing to it at 1AM
And what do you know the main character also has sleeping problems.
Yet, that will very shortly be least of his problems - as he has plenty of problems to figure out, like what the heck do those Kaiju spirits want. Another fast paced Robinson thriller with excellent narration from Mr. Kafer.

In this world and the next
At home and unable to sleep whilst his something'ology' wife is working through the night, ex crime reporter Saul feels the underground movement of an explosion and sees a blazing blue column of light centred over the laboratory where she is employed. Or rather, over where the laboratory used to be, because, as Saul discovers when he arrived there, it has gone. Instead, there is a pit, not even rubble. But there is a lone woman trapped behind a glass wall six stories down who appears to be glowing blue.
So starts another no holds barred paranormal thriller by Jeremy Robinson, a tale of black ops and ghosts, and chases from Boston to Chicago. Dialogue is good, the characters somewhat quirky - an especial favourite was the self professed Warlock who didn't believe in ghosts or anything paranormal - and their reality was solidified by the excellent performance of Jeffrey Kafer. Always a fine narrator, it was a pleasure to see his name given equal status on the cover as the author.
A fast, full action thriller with the main protagonists pursued by both the living and the dead, this story might be crazy but it is gripping, although I personally found the ending too prolonged. Recommended to those who don't mind suspending disbelief and throwing away all ideas of reality to fully immerse themselves in this paranormal horror thriller. It was fun.

Awesome
Jeffrey Kafer does an awesome job of narrating, he brings the story and the characters to life. He is clear to understand through headphones and over a Bluetooth speaker.
Jeremy Robinson has written a really cool story that I fully enjoyed. With a few Easter eggs and maybe a twist or two.

Story
Before Miss Peregrine gave them a home, the story of peculiars was written in the Tales. Wealthy cannibals who dine on the discarded limbs of peculiars. A fork-tongued princess. These are but a few of the truly brilliant stories in Tales of the Peculiar - the collection of fairy tales known to hide information about the peculiar world, including clues to the locations of time loops - first introduced by Ransom Riggs in his number-one best-selling Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series.
