Publisher's Summary
A detective on a personal mission won't stop - even when she falls into the arms of a gorgeous medieval highlander.
Lieutenant Diana Burke will not give up. Though her missing person case had gone stone cold, something about the disappearance of Kinley Chandler doesn't make sense. But the last place the detective expects to find her is the highlands of medieval Scotland.
Bodyguard Tharaen Aber needs another security complication like he needs the plague. But the ingenious lass he catches sneaking around Dun Aran castle couldn't be more opposite. As skilled a tracker as he's ever seen, she lends her aid at every opportunity. Unfortunately for the giant highlander, the complications she brings to his heart aren't nearly as easily solved.
But not all eyes see Diana for the good she brings. In fact, the druids demand that she leave and are determined to make it happen.

Entertaining!
Another entertaining listen in this Immortal Highlander series. Tharaen and Diana’s story has some good twists and though some were a bit creepy for my tastes, they were still interesting. I must admit to fast forwarding parts of this book, especially some of the scenes with the undead leader. I really liked both main characters and it was nice having characters from the first book included in the storyline. All in all it was very entertaining. William MacLeod is an amazing narrator and adds so much to the enjoyment of the listening experience. I look forward to the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am providing an unbiased review.

Tharaen and Diana
Lieutenant Diana Burke works in the Missing Persons Department of the San Diego Police Department and has been searching for Captain Kinley Chandler since her disappearance some twelve months ago. Now if you have read or listened to the first book in this series (Lachlan) you will know that Kindley is now happily living on the Isle of Skye but I get ahead of myself.
Diana has a secret, one she has kept to herself for some time but she knows that soon everyone will discover her secret but before they do she decides to take one last look at the scene of Kinley's disappearance - Horsethief Canyon.
Diana finds herself mysteriously transported 800 years back in time to the fourteenth century. She finds herself amongst a bunch of what she assumes are actors pretending to be Scottish Highlanders. She sneaks into a castle and is drawn towards a staircase but is discovered before she can get to the top of the stairs. She is challenged by Raen and then all hell breaks loose......
Eventually, she meets Kinley who when she disappeared was critically injured but now is not only alive but also completely healed and happily married to Lachlan McDonnel, Laird of Clan McDonnel, a group of immortal Highlanders who have been fighting a legion of cursed undead Roman soldiers for the past 1200 years. So we have immortal Highlanders and Roman Soldiers who are now vampires oh and we also have the magic folk as they are called by the people of that time - Druids.
Now Diana does not believe in magic she has always looked for a logical explanation to anything, but she can't explain away the fact that she's there, that she feels better, fitter and more alive than she has felt in years. Diana quickly realizes she wants to stay and learn more of the fascinating new world in which she now finds herself, she wants to find out how Kinley can be well when she was so very seriously wounded.
Tharaen Aber, a tall handsome immortal Highlander is charged with guarding her. He's one of few men she's ever met who makes her feel feminine not an easy task as she is 6 feet tall. Diana is attracted to Raen who has facial tattoos which seem to glow. Although he fights it the attraction is mutual and when he gives in to his attraction his glowing marks jump from Raen's skin to hers after only a mere touch of her hand to his face, why, what does this mean?
Diana has always been very good at finding missing objects and people hence her job. It seems that this is a gift she has inherited from an ancestor who must have been a Druid because only a Druid could have traveled through time to the sacred grove as she and Kinley did.
As the attraction between Diana and Raen deepens into love and her life in the settlement takes on a new meaning Diana hopes that she will be able to stay but one of the most powerful Druids has his own reasons for wanting her gone.
This story had me totally enthralled from the very beginning to the very end, so much so that I resented any time when I could not carry on listing to it! The world building and the storyline are so very well done. I would love to tell you more about this exciting, enthralling and emotional storyline but I can't - why you ask? Well because that would mean giving out too many spoilers and this book is just too good for that!
The narration by William MacLeod could not be improved upon, he brings every single character to life vividly. The depth of feeling in his voice is incredible and as he also narrated Lachlan the characters are consistent.
The writing by Hazel Hunter is excellent, the characters are vivid and real, you feel like you know them and the storyline was excellent. Having listened to the first two books in this wonderful series I really want to listen to more!
I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review

Time Travel at its best
What can I say about this book it was amaze balls. Tharaen is a fast paced, captivating read, that I read in one go. The story continues on from Lachlan although it is a new couple that we meet we have already met Theraen in book 1 as Raen but we now meet Diana who is from the San Diego police department and her job is to investigate missing persons. Diana's current case is to find Kinley (Kinley is from book 1). Diana is lead to horseshoe canyon where Kinley was last seen there. When Diana approaches the spot and touches it she is transported back in time 800 years. Tharaen is a bodyguard who finds Diana lurking around the castle. Well enough said. Hazel has never failed to deliver a great read and with William MacLoed as the narrator this book really came alive.

Wonderful!
Wonderful audio version of Hazel Hunter's time travel romance Tharaen. The story contains a wide variety of paranormal beings: immortal highlanders, vampire Romans, celts. There is also one damaged and confused modern woman who travels back in time to find herself among them. The story has action, adventure, mystery, and romance. There's some steamy sex, too. Ms. Hunter writes wonderful characters in enchanting locations, and the plots and action pull you in and hold you fast until you've read/listened to the last word.
The narration is fantastic! I absolutely love William MacLeod's accent, and he does an admirable job voicing the female characters, too.

Still just....."meh"
This is the second of this series I have listened to and I have to be honest...they don't live up to their potential. This really bugs me too because they have a great concept behind them. I really enjoy that the "vampires" are cursed Roman Soldiers who are thousands of years old and that we have druids and Celts here as well. I really don't have a problem with these characters...where the story falls-short (stories I have read in this series so far really) is the heroine.
The lead female characters aren't very well developed, it's as if the author treats them like tertiary characters....supporting characters rather than main characters. In Lachlan, book 1.... Kinley Chandler felt the same to me as Diana Burke does in this book. They are both damaged in their own ways and both just fall into relationships soooooo easily once transported through time and I just don't buy it.
In both books there are women with very strong personalities. Lets face it Kinley Chandler would have to have a strong personality as a soldier and Diana Burke is a Lieutenant on the police force....both tough ladies. But both feel like placeholders in the story where more development needs to take place. Take Diana Burke for example. She's seen it all as a cop, in a big city...and just falls easily into a relationship Tharaen? Her infirmity is brought in towards the end of the story in what feels like a convenient afterthought to me. At least in Lachlan you knew what Kinley's was up front and what her motivation could be for staying where she was with him.
I'm sorry, I just don't buy these female characters at all....strong women who act more like swooning wenches. The performance was definitely better than the story.

Omg wow
OMG wow this is a 10 star story and I would love to see this in a movie! Don't miss it!
Lieutenant Diana Burke is over 6 feet tall and works at the missing persons unit at the San Diego police department. But that wasn't the only thing that made her special nope. She has Druid blood and a gift of finding lost things.
Tharaen or Raen is part if the McDonald's clan that had been killed by the Romans and the druids brought them back to life and cursing the Romans turning them into vampires
Now a power has brought them together sending Diana back in time.
Wow this is an awesome story full of action, drama, spice and a huge dose of mystery. Then there are the evil roman vampires, druids and hot Scottish men! You are so going to love them!
Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.

Marvelous creditworthy audiobook!
Why, oh why, is Audible just now getting this author's books?! The characters are well-developed, the magic VERY different and imaginative (so hard to find in PNR's), and the plots intriguing. The narration is simply marvelous! William MacLeod has a deep voice with a great Scottish accent but somehow his female voices, even in an American accent, don't have a trace of gravel! And he truly acts with his voice while narrating, Since I only listen to audiobooks I had not encountered Hazel Hunter before this summer. If you enjoy PNR, time travel or highlanders please get this book and rate it. We must encourage continuing production of this author's prolific backlist on audio! If the rest of her series are as enjoyable as this one we will have many hours of terrific listening.

A modern day cop goes to the 12 century for case.
Loved the book and the narrator's voice took me to the Scotland high lands and the 12th century. It made me laugh and cry and want the characters to succeed in their quest against the bad guys. Can a 21st century female cop fall in love with an Immortal Highlander? Hazel Hunter writes a compelling story of danger, love and life in the Scottish Highlands.
