Love this

I will be listening to this for a 2nd time. I am 3 days in to the 10 day detox. I’ve learned a lot about the brain and alcohol and behaviors!! Haha I can laugh at myself because he was talking about me!! I’m a medical coder and see detox charts everyday and see the destruction alcohol causes. I don’t want to be that person. I am not what you’d call a full blown alcoholic and learning more about it here helps me to begin setting goals to be sober all the time and not binge! I think everyone with an alcohol problem should read this!

Very helpful

I bought this book because I had to stop drinking for an up coming surgery. I had been drinking a lot more since COVID started and was wondered if I could actually make it the two weeks.

This book helped me understand how to make it through the 14 days. I have no doubt now that I will be successful.

If you are thinking you should quit or cut down your drinking it is worth listening to.

This book may have saved me from myself

I’ve only been sober for 10 days, but that is amazing for me. I’ve been drinking since I was 15. I’m now 44. In the last year and a half I have drank almost every day….whiskey….2-9 units a day. I was at my wits end. I have tried stopping, I would make it day 3 and create a reason to start drinking again. I now feel so much better. Not 100%, I still have more work to do, but so much better. I still get cravings at the same time every day, but now know how to cope with them. And they are starting to lessen and not lasting as long. If your debating getting this, just do it! It will help.

Read it

This book really helped me see things differently. I am now 12 days sober. I don’t think much about the alcohol and I feel great. My mind is clearer my body feels good and I already lost 5 pounds. I followed the book and did everything it has said and it worked. Follow the book. I read each chapter the night before so I could wake up and know what I needed to do.

Excellent resource to keep replaying

I really enjoyed this book. I’m in a season to be fit by 50. And I came across this book to help me in that journey. We’ve been programmed to reach for the next sugary drink and you get to a point in your life where you think to yourself, is this really where I wanna be for the rest of my life feeling icky. NO! Just email the author for the downloads he’ll respond back.

Amazing

This book was amazing. This is the longest I’ve gone without a drink in at least a year. I’m on day 10. And have no doubt I’ll have many many more. The relaxation techniques are wonderful and helped with other aspects of my life. Very easy to stop drinking if you follow this method. First two days were rough, but after that it’s been smooth sailing.

Easy to follow, no judgment plan

I was looking for something to help me with Dry December, my own thing, and thankfully I came across this audio book. It takes me a while to get through self-help books as I try to apply the steps, and tweak them, before I move on. I began the book December 1, 2021 and completed it January 6, 2022. I am so happy I completed it, and that it took me over 30 days because I’m into Dry January with everyone else now, with no worries. My plan is to keep doubling the time as I go, no pressure.

The no pressure or judgement aspect really appeals to me, and being on this journey has been a true relief. Great tools and additional support as well.

Detox Plan

I am listening to this audiobook with the intention of cutting back on drinking alcohol. I like the fact that it is based on strategies that have proved to be successful from when the author worked with clients.

It is not preachy and is interesting all the way through. 10 days is not a long time really and I found that listening to it daily worked for me when motivation was flagging or temptation loomed.

I purchased the audiobook and the book itself as I like to read or listen depending on my mood or need at the time. I am really glad that I have got this to refer to for the long term as it has proven to be effective for me especially over the recent Christmas period.

Solid and simple

This book is easy to digest and very progressive without being preachy. It's easy to listen to a chapter per day and get positive affirmations.

On a lighter note: Like me, you might think the narrator has a slightly strange British accent (I'm British myself), but wait til you hear him slip into his American accent.

Worth every penny/credit

Like some others in these reviews, it’s rare for me to bother to write about a book after listening. I felt I had to for this one because it was so powerful in helping me change my bad habits.

The pandemic and all the upheaval and stasis that it caused got me in bad drinking habits. I got sad, fat and hopeless. Through this book and REALLY following the exercises and suggestions in it, I’ve found a new lease of life, have stayed off the booze and feel like I now have the toolkit to manage my habits (drinking and otherwise) so that I’m the one in control.

Listen to the first two short chapters and you’ll hear how, simply explained, a rethinking of challenges can make them into opportunities, triggers become replaced with purposeful actions and sobriety becomes a place of comfort.

Completed 10 days

Feeling great since doing the 10 day detox, looking to extend it to 14 days, then a week at a time. I listened to a chapter a day to maintain my focus. Recommend for anyone wanting to take a break from alcohol.

Life changing for me ! Give it a go x

I started listening to this audible book 5 months ago after realising that I desperately needed to change my destructive drinking habits which were affecting every part of my life. I was scared of what life would be like without alcohol but this book gave me a completely different perspective on the situation. It was really enjoyable too and I listened daily on my dog walks , looking forward to hearing the next chapter and returned home every day buzzing with optimism. I’ve now managed to go 5 months without alcohol and apart from tricky times like Christmas with extended family it’s been quite easy. There are additional podcasts available to help with these social situations and other follow on issues. Highly recommend this book.

Once you get over the voice, it's really good.

Initially I found the voice very robotic and not in an Alexa way. However, when you stick with it and (I suppose) get used to it, the content is really, really good. It's more theoretical than others which suits me - each to their own of course. I did the 10 days but had to to it again....and again....and again. Still, at least I realise the mistakes I keep making because of what I've learnt from this book and just need to stop making those mistakes. At least I know I'm making them as a result of listening instead of making feeble excuses. If at first you don't succeed..........!

The best self help book ever

This book is an invaluable tool for anyone looking towards giving up or reducing their intake of alcohol. The audio seems to help get the authors message across and he could have actually been talking to me alone and touched on so many of the situations and scenarios that I’ve been in through my abuse of alcohol.
The book helps you understand such pitfalls as cravings and helps you deal with them and many other issues that challenge us when trying to go ‘dry’ and helps you set realistic goals making the process achievable.
Of all the many books I’ve read on the subject of giving up the booze this by far the best.
