Story
If You're In My Office, It's Already Too Late. James Sexton knows this. After dealing with over 1000 clients whose marriages have dissolved over everything from an ill-advised threesome with the nanny to the uneven division of carpool duties, he also knows all of the what- not-to-dos for couples who want to build - and consistently work to preserve - a lasting, fulfilling relationship. Described by former clients as a "courtroom gunslinger" and "the sociopath you want on your side", Sexton tells the unvarnished truth about relationships. These usually derive from dishonest communication.

Publisher's Summary
The knowledge every man needs for a successful divorce
Each year, 500,000 men will face divorce, and most of them make at least one crucial - and often irreversible - mistake. These errors might seem minor, such as moving out while things get sorted out or thinking of "temporary" orders as being truly temporary. But when they get to court, these men discover they have put themselves in a terrible position. They may have to give up their house, pay impossibly high alimony, or even lose custody.
You could be one of these men. But you don't have to be.
Joseph Cordell, the founder of the nation's largest law firm focusing on men's divorce and the creator of DadsDivorce.com, has seen the consequences of the mistakes men make. Drawing upon the huge number of cases that Cordell & Cordell has handled, this book identifies the 10 most common mistakes that end up hurting men in divorce. Cordell demystifies the divorce process, explains what judges consider in making their final decisions, and lays out a road map for positive actions men can take to achieve the best possible outcome.
No man should face divorce without this book.

Great book but not for Men in Gray Divorced
They did a great job putting helpful information and combining true life stories to support thoughts and practices. But so much of the book was for younger men.
80% dealt with maintaining yourself in order to get joint custody etc. I am not saying they didn’t touch on points needed for older men’s causes. The court preparation information was very helpful and the fact of only talking when needed and not sharing where the divorce was or where it’s heading was helpful. John, put a book us for us over 50 and our concerns about property, monies, 401k, changing our wills and other ideas. That would be very help and I will repurchase the book. Other was the book was very helpful. Sending it to a friend with young children.

Irretrievably broken, irreconcilable differences
The deep sadness of a divorce "Irretrievably broken, irreconcilable differences" is beyond heart shattering. While commitments and vows before God to unconditionally love, honor and care for a husband / wife are so easily disposable and trashed like meaningless garbage, I read this book to help my husband and to work together in the physical end of our domestic partnership - but with no contact orders and protective orders against him in place, the legal act of divorce has become completely dehabilitating and under the destruction of the adversarial legal system that has begun. For those that make it out alive - this book is helpful for wives looking to help their husbands, and for those women looking to understand the male perspective of such things.

Not for me
There are really no ground breaking thoughts in this book. Honestly, trying to listen to the whole book was akin to nails on a caulk board. Let me sum up the 7 hours and 14 minutes... Don't move out of your house, unless you should. Don't give up more than you should, unless you are forced too. Don't be an asshole, because that's just a life lesson. Don't lie about finances, because you know, lying is bad, especially when it comes to court stuff.
